On a ASP.NET MVC should the error pages be the most independend possible?
I mean be full HTML code with no relation to databases, render actions, render partials, master pages, etc?
There would be only the actions to return the, for example, NotFound and UnknownError views and then place those url in Web.Config custom error section.
I need reliable way to run 10 different tasks simultaneously. For instance the first one would be sending emails, while the next one is cleaning rows from a specific table... so on an so forth.
I've used the Thread class and while it works well on my development machine (VS2010 internal web server) non of these threads seems to be working at all on my production server. And I don't know of an effective way to debug the problem on the production server.
I saw this technique which encourage you to register cache objects. Since the application fires a callback when a cached item expires, then it's possible to run any code to mimic threading behavior. It seems a little Micky Mouse like.
The Request.Browser.Cookies property (of type bool) attribute stores information whether client's browser supports cookies and whether or not they are enabled. How reliable is the property Request.Browser.Cookies? Is it guaranteed to be correct ? Or should I rather implement redirection technique suggested by Software Monkey in this question? Please note: This in not a question "are cookies reliable" ? This is a question: "Is the information whether users browser accepts cookies reliable?"
I want to have an upload functionality for uploading large files -- as large as 1GB. I see some sites successfully implementing reliable upload functionality without using any upload clients e.g. ActiveX, Java, etc. Some suggest, the secret is sending the large file in smaller and more manageable chunks to the server. If that't the case how do I handle that?
I use Go Daddy's relay-hosting.secureserver.net for my SMTP client. I've coded it to use the user's email address as the "From:" address, in order to develop an outlook rule that sends a confirmation email to the user, informing them that their input was received. But using Go Daddy's relay-hosting.secureserver.net as an SMTP client prevents this from happening if the user has an email from "@yahoo.com", "@gmail.com", "@hotmail.com" etc, etc.
We did some research and found that this relay hosting server is not always reliable. We've had problems where users have submitted input, but the input was never received. Is there anything else I can look into that will send email via my ASP.net page?
programming option? Our Web application could have 60000 database requests/second or more in future.Which is better: MS-SQL or MySQL or other?Which is better: Asp.net, PHP, JSP or other? What kind of webhosting is reliable for auto-scaling?Any good webhosters or hosting plans?
What are the pros and cons between using the ASP.Net control compared to the old reliable table html implementation. I know that the asp:Table will end up on the returned page as a html table, and from looking into it so far people are saying its easier to work with the asp:Table in the server side code, but I'd love to hear what the stackoverflow community has to say about the matter.
everything .net works fine, but when i try to run a .asp file i get this error: Server Error in '/xx' Application. This type of page is not served. Description: The type of page you have requested is not served because it has been explicitly forbidden. The extension '.asp' may be incorrect. Please review the URL below and make sure that it is spelled correctly. Requested URL: /index.asp Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.3607; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.3082 is there something i need to enable?
I have two areas: Frontend and Backend - I would like to have two different error pages - so I have two files NotFound in /Areas/Frontend/Views/Shared/NotFound and /Areas/Backend/Views/Shared/NotFound. I have added also to Web.config in area Frontend: <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="Error"> <error statusCode="403" redirect="NoAccess" /> <error statusCode="404" redirect="/Areas/Frontend/Views/Shared/NotFound" /> </customErrors>
and in area Backend in Web.config: <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="Error"> <error statusCode="403" redirect="NoAccess" /> <error statusCode="404" redirect="/Areas/Backend/Views/Shared/NotFound" /> </customErrors>
But when I come in bad website url - for example: http://localhost/Backend/blablabla I don't see my NotFound website but:
Server Error in '/' Application.
The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
I am trying to compile simple master page but i keep on getting following error.
Compiler Error Message: CS0426: The type name 'child' does not exist in the type 'System.Web.UI.MasterPage'

I've seen similar posts but have been unable to resolve my error. When browsing the site from IIS I get the following error- a .master file does not exist. I can see it in the directory and everything works fine when running out of VS 2010.
Parser Error Description:
An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately.
Parser Error Message: The file '/AMA.Master' does not exist.
I'm using the old 404-rewrite method on a certain site that is tied to IIS6 *. So if I enter [URL] it calls my error page like so [URL] Except if I call the page with a fragment, like [URL] I get the same result as above. I can't find the fragment anywhere:
Request.Url Request.Url.OriginalString Request.UrlReferrer Request.RawUrl headers, server variables, etc
This has come up because I want to resolve paths created by AJAX to their server-side versions. Is there any way for me to retrieve the original path from my handler?
I get the error message The system cannot find the path specified for a .html file that doesn't exist on the server.
1. Is it possible to set up an error page for .html pages that doens't exist without having access to IIS.
2. If you need to do it in IIS, can you do this for .html files, and then set up custom error pages for .aspx files in the web.config so that these rules co-exist.
Can anyone send me proper configuration settings in web.config for ASP.NET 4.0. I am unable to redirect pages to desired url on page not found. It seems there are changes in properties as compared to previous framework.
I have the following RegularExpressionValidator on one of my pages:
<asp:RegularExpressionValidator ID="RegularExpressionValidator2" runat="server" ControlToValidate="InKindTextBox" ErrorMessage="The value entered for 'Cash' must be in a number format. Examples: 500.00, 500, $500, $50,000 or $500.00" ValidationExpression="(?n:(^$?(?!0,?d)d{1,3}(?=(?<1>,)|(?<1>))(k<1>d{3})*(.dd)?)$)" >
But when it tries to validate it throws the error below from one of my dynamic JS pages. When I run this regex through regex texter it works fine. Am i doing something wrong here?

I have a website which has both html and aspx pages. for aspx pages i have added code in customerror section in web.config and is working fine, but only in case of aspx pages. I want if somebody looks for html page which does not exist should also be taken to error page.[URL]( What about html pages section) will only work if the site is hosted at my servers, but in my case the website is hosted somewhere else.
Has anyone been able to cache .aspx pages using the HTML cache manifest? I am porting an html application over to asp.net (and mvc2) and I get a 404 error when trying to cache any *.aspx page. Other files still cache normally (.js, .css, etc). I have changed permissions, handlers, and file names and still no luck. Below is the actual manifest:
CACHE MANIFEST # This file was generated at 2/28/2011 4:03 PM CACHE: /Content/Site.css /Content/Table_style.css /Scripts/jquery-1.5.min.js /Scripts/json.js /Scripts/persist-all.js /Views/Data/Details.aspx /Views/Data/NotFound.aspx /Views/Data/OffLine.aspx /Views/Data/OnLine.aspx /Views/Data/Test.aspx /Views/Home/About.aspx /Views/Home/Index.aspx /Views/Shared/Error.aspx
I'm working on a website with legacy Classic ASP pages (being converted to ASP.NET on an as needed basis) and new ASP.NET pages. Use of IIS 7 Integrated Pipeline has been very helpful with our configuration. For example, we were able to get forms authentication working auto-magically with the classic ASP pages simply by configuring the appropriate sections of the web.config file (i.e. no changes were required to the Classic ASP pages, for more info see this).
A colleague of mine believes that custom error pages, as specified in the web.config <customErrors> section, should also be auto-magically applied to the classic ASP pages, but for our website it only works for the ASP.NET pages. Nor have I been able to find any information describing the capability of applying custom error pages to Classic ASP with the IIS 7 integrated pipeline. Is it possible to apply custom error pages to Classic ASP pages per a web.config for an website running under IIS7 with integrated pipeline? If so, how?
