Thread Safety In Parameters Passed To A Static Method
Jan 10, 2011
Assuming a static method like below is called from ASP.NET page,can a different thread(b) overwrite the value of s1 after the first line is executed by thread(a)?If so, can assigning parameters to local variables before manipulation solve this?
The question is, is it possible that requests for the same session are executed from multiple threads? Are methods in ASP.NET reentrant? Especially we are using AJAX which means that asychronous requests are taking place.
Would this mean to place locks around operations on objects placed inside the session?I know that locks are essential when handling static and application wide variables, but the question is is the same true for session objects?
On the MSDN page for the Membership.ApplicationName property (which applies to an asp.net membership provider), it warns that although one can change Membership.ApplicationName in code, 'The ApplicationName property is not thread safe for multiple writes, and changing the ApplicationName property value can result in unexpected behavior for multiple users of an application.' They therefore recommend avoiding using it for a 'web application'.
This is because the default SqlMembershipProvider is written as a singleton. But here's my question: is it OK if all the threads in my application process are going to set Membership.ApplicationName to the same thing?
I'm thinking of having multiple applications on my IIS box, each with their own separate application pool. I want to point them to the same location, but based on the hostname, set the application provider to different things. Wouldn't this actually be OK? It might not be a thread-safe operation, but doesn't each application pool have its own process and therefore its own instance of SqlMembershipProvider? So, every thread that tried to set Membership.ApplicationName for a given SqlMembershipProvider instance would be trying to set it to the same thing (the provider that is appropriate for that hostname).
I want a example of multithreading .i want to use it in a web form not on console.i am using C#.net .and how to use thread.sleep method for a particular thread.
I have a private static field in my Controller class in an MVC web application.
I have a static method in that controller that assigns some value to that static field, I want to apply lock on that static field until some other instance method in the controller uses the value stored in the static field and then releases it.
DETAILS:
I have a controller named BaseController having a static ClientId field as follows and two methods as follows:-
public static string ClientId = ""; static void OnClientConnected(string clientId, ref Dictionary<string, object> list) { list.Add("a", "b"); // I want the ClientId to be locked here, so that it can not be accessed by other requests coming to the server and wait for ClientId to be released:- BaseController.clientId = clientId; } public ActionResult Handler() { if (something) { // use the static ClientId here } // Release the ClientId here, so it can now be used by other web requests coming to the server. return View(); }
I did some research after posting. All I found was simple examples for no-layer architectures, like connecting to a database from your aspx page, so, in a corporate environment, it is unnaceptable.
I need to call a server-side method (using ASP.NET Ajax) in a 3-layer architecture.
For example, my Default.aspx contains a method LoadProducts().
[Code]....
[Code]....
This cannot change. There is no way to convert Business and Data layers to static.
How can I call the LoadProducts() method using ASP.NET Ajax?
public sealed class IoC { private static readonly IDependencyResolver resolver = Service.Get("IDependencyResolver") as IDependencyResolver; static IoC() { } private IoC()
I'm having trouble figuring this error out. I have a grid on an ASPX page that displays data from a stored procedure in an SQL Server 2008 database. When the page loads, I get the following error:
"Procedure or function <sp_name> has too many arguments specified."
In my application if I get an exception I catch it and send stackTrace through email. I also need the values of parameters passed to this function. I can get the names of function and parameters using MethodBase class of System.Reflection.
I haven't used these in awhile. I was just wondering is it possible to pass values or parameters to a user control from the aspx page. Say you register a control and then use it using something like
I am using jQuery to call PageMethods. For certain operations, the current user credentials must be validated and for other operations, I need to call other static methods. Here is some sample code:
Sample #1
[WebMethod] public static void PostComment(string comment) { UserAuth auth = new UserAuth(); if (auth.isAuthenticated) { //Post comment here... } }
Sample #2
[WebMethod] public static string GetComment(int commentId) { commentDto comment = //get comment data from the database... string friendlyDate = ConvertFriendlyDate(comment.commentDate); return friendlyDate + " " + comment.text; } public static string ConvertFriendlyDate(DateTime commentDate) { string friendlyDate = //call static utility method to convert date to friendly format return friendlyDate; }
Will I be safe using these kinds of operations? Am I better to drop page methods and just call a separate ASPX page for my AJAX requests?
I want to remove checked items from checklistbox (winform control) in class file method which i am calling asynchronously using deletegate. but it showing me this error message:-
Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'checkedListBox1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
i have tried invoke required but again got the same error. Sample code is below:
Since ASP.NET MVC3 RC2 I encounter a bug when posting values to a controller method of which one of the parameter is a nullable int. Steps to reproduce:
I've created a test method
[code]....
In MVC3 RC1 this was working without any problems with the nullable int
Update: I don't seem to have the problem with a newly created MVC3 website. What could I have in my project that influence model binding to nullable int's? And why would there be a difference between RC1 and RC2?
Due to certain reasons, in our ASP.NET web application, it is not recommended to use Response.Redirect("something", True). It should be used with False for the endResponse parameter. We want to enforce this with a custom FxCop rule. I've managed to find the usages of Response.Redirect, but now I want to find the value of the endResponse argument. How can I do this?
We're using the following code:
[Code]....
I've used Introspector and thought the endResponse parameter was an integer behind the scenes, but I'm not so sure anymore. Anyway, there don't seem to be any booleans in the methodCall.Operands.
need to check the actual value of a parameter that's passed to a method?
Working through the tutorial http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/iteration-1-create-the-application-vbI am unable to delete anything as that method is not passing an object to the Delete POST function.Or more specifically, the object is nothing.Stepping through the GET method I get a bizzare 'There is no code after this point' after Return View(objectToDelete)The LINQ query for the GET method is the same as that for the Edit method but that is working fine.
I have comma separated data on client side [Since my columns and rows are dynamic along with dynamic control inside it which are not accessible in backend due to viewstate issue of dynamic controls],
So I am passing CSV string to Web Method as and want to get Excel file out of it.
I tried following code but it is not exporting the file.
I'm developing an ASP.NET forms webapplication using C#. I have a method which creates a new Order for a customer. It looks similar to this; private string CreateOrder(string userName) { // Fetch current order Order order = FetchOrder(userName);[code]....
The problem here is, it is possible that 1 customer in two requests (threads) could cause this method to be called twice while another thread is also inside this method. This can cause two orders to be created.
How can I properly lock this method, so it can only be executed by one thread at a time per customer?
I want to introduce a slight wait during some testing functions, to simulate a server call. Is it sane to use Thread.Sleep(int) to introduce the wait or is there a better method to have the server wait?
Note, I'll be pausing long enough for me to visually see a sufficient lag, even tho I don't expect to see such a delay in the actual app. This is for me to visualize the actual delay that could occur.
I plan on running this both in the VS2010 local debugger webserver and in IIS 7. I'm on .NET 3.5
iam really new to Crystal Report XI Release 2..iam using multiple subreport in mainreport and onclick of particular subreport it would list out all items related to it..for example if u have customer chart(subreport) in mainreport and onclick of this it would list all customer on demand and subreport is binded and onclick of single customer it would list out single customer which sholud be passed as parameter it would get customer(full Contact details) in another subreport.if this can be done. how it can be done and explain in steps how it can be and if possible with screen shots
public static string Greet(string name) { string greeting = "welcome "; // is it possible to pass this value to a label outside this static method? string concat = string.Concat(greeting, name); //error Label1.text = concat; //I want to return only the name return name; }
As you can see in the comments, I want to retain only the name as the return value, however I want to be able to take out the value of the concat variable to asign it to a label, but when i try the compiler refuses, can it be done? Is there a work around?
I have a base class with several derived classes. I want all of my derived classes to have the same Public Shared (static) method with their own implementation. How do I do this?
