JQuery :: Sorting (rearranging Order) Of A Photo Album Using JQuery Sortable

Feb 6, 2011

I have a photo album gallery within my website and would like to allow users to sort the order of their photos within an album. After looking at very different ways I came across this example

http://www.west-wind.com/rick/photoalbum/demoMaui2006/Default.aspx?Admin=true which is exactly what I need.

The photo are stored in the uploads directory and details in the database. The images are displayed using the ListView as shown below:

[Code]....

I would like to rearrange the order of the photos; change the captions and/or delete the photos just like as in the example.

So could someone please provide the steps that I need to follow in order to achieve the following:

Firstly to display the photos from the Photo table in the database (can use the above listView) Rearrange the order; change caption and/or delete the photo(s) Final to update the changes in the Photo table

I am new to programming, especially jQuery so could you kindly provide/explain the steps that I need to follow.

JQuery :: Autocomplete Call WCF Service Method

Oct 20, 2010

I am trying to use the below code to call a wcf service method for Autocomplete functionality in a TextBox. I have written the following query:

$(document).ready(function () {
$("#<%= txtCompany.ClientID %>").autocomplete [URL], {
dataType: 'json',
parse: function (data) {
var items = data.d;
var parsed = [];
for (var i = 0; i < items.length; i++)
parsed[i] = {
data: [items[i]],
value: items[i],
result: [items[i]]
};
return parsed;
}
});
});

The same query works if I pass a Java Script array variable instead of the wcf service method. The wcf service method contract is:

[OperationContract]
[WebInvoke(Method = "GET", BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.WrappedRequest, ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)]
string[] GetTestCompanyList(string prefixText, int count);

Calling Linq To SQL Method In Web Service With JQuery?

Jan 24, 2010

I have a test web service called: MySimpleService.svc with a method called:GetUserNamesByInitials. below is the Linq to SQL code:

[OperationContract]
public static string GetUserNamesByInitials(string initials)
{
string result = ""; [code]...

what I do is to type the user id in one textbox (TextBox3) and when I press the Tab key the result is shown in another textbox(TextBox4).
The jQuery call works well with other methods that do not call the database, for example using this other web service method it works:

[OperationContract] public string ParameterizedConnectionTest(string word)
{
return string.Format("You entered the word: {0}", word);
}

However with the Linq method it just does not work.

How To Create A Shallow Copy Of An Object So That It May Be Serialize And Sent Via A Web Method Call

Feb 16, 2010

I would like to serialize the properties of the HttpBrowserCapibilities object so that it may be returned via a web method call. Currently the object cannot be serialized:Cannot serialize member System.Web.Configuration.HttpCapabilitiesBase.Capabilities of type System.Collections.IDictionary, because it implements IDictionary. ...which is understandable. However, I would like to simply copy out the properties and their values to a hierarchy, i.e.

<HttpBrowserCapabilities>
<IsMobile>true</IsMobile>
</HttpBrowserCapabilities>

I'm starting to think I would need to use reflection to copy this object, but I haven't reached a conclusion. Does anyone have any suggestions to keep this simple?

Serialize / Encrypt / Transmit Web Form Data To Web Service?

Jul 15, 2010

I have an ASP.NET 1.1 form gathering data on a public-facing site, within a DMZ. The data is represented by a serializable class. My problem is that I need to serialize, encrypt and transmit the data to a Web Service running on an internal server - the service logic should then decrypt and deserialize the data before writing the XML to a shared folder.

Can someone point me in the right direction? What's the most straightforward way of doing this?

Jquery - JSON Can Call Method In .aspx File But Not In .asmx (web Service) File

Jul 3, 2010

I am using JQuery & JSON (POST) to call webmethod. However I can call only webmethod located at aspx file but not in asmx file Below are sample codes

CustomValidate.asmx
Imports System.Web.Services
Imports System.Web.Services.Protocols
Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class CustomValidate
Inherits System.Web.Services.WebService
'ACCESS VIA JSON
<System.Web.Services.WebMethod()> _
Public Shared Function AJAX_Test(ByVal date1) As Boolean...
Return True
End Function
End Class
Javascript: JQuery JSON
function isDates(source, arguments) {
var isValidDate;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
url: "CustomValidate.asmx/AJAX_Test",
data: '{date1: "' + arguments.Value + '"}',
dataType: "json",
async: false,
success: function(result) {
isValidDate = result;
},
error: function(httpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) {
alert("status=" + textStatus + ",error=" + errorThrown);
}
});
arguments.IsValid = isValidDate;
}

It always return javascript undefined error. But if I put the AJAX_Test webmethod in aspx page and replace the url: "CustomValidate.asmx/AJAX_Test" to "mypage.aspx/AJAX_Test". It works fine.

C# - Why Does Silverlight Reference To Wcf Service Blow Up When Add Method To The Wcf Service That Returns Generic List

Aug 17, 2010

I have built a WCF Service that is being consumed by a Silverlight app. At first I created one method that was very simple:

public String SfTest()
{
return "SF Test";
}

No poblem. My silverlight app references my service and displays "SF Test" in a textbox. Now I add a method to my wcf service like this:

public List<String> GetTest()
{
List<String> list = new List<string>();
String a = "a";
list.Add(a);
String b = "b";
list.Add(b);
return list;
}

I update the reference to the service in my Silverlight app and the using statement in my xaml cs page throws an error like the service doesn't even exist although it is there. I am assuming the problem has to do with datatypes or serialization or something like that but it is driving me up the wall. Why can't I consume a simple generic list in my Silverlight app through the WCF service.

JQuery-AJAX Calling Page Method / How To Return Value Back To JQuery

Jan 31, 2011

If I use jQuery AJAX to call a specific ASP.NET page method how to have that method return a value back to the AJAX method that called it?

Update

My situation is I have an existing web application with many existing methods. I would like to be able to use jQuery to execute some of these methods and then update the UI with the results. My mandate is to stay away from ASP.NET AJAX and stick with jQuery. Management is concerned about continued development and support with ASP.NET AJAX from Microsoft. I agree with them.

Web Service And Page Method?

Mar 19, 2011

For the moment, I have a page method that I call with javascript/jqeury and the server returns a json object. I'm realizing that I'd actually like to have this page method on every page. Of course, I could copy paste the page method on every page but I'm looking into better options.1) Putting the page method in the master page. Is this easy to do? 2) Creating a web service. My question is this: for now, the page knows which client is requesting the method through the sessionID; does a web service also know who's calling it? In term of performance, are they comparable?Let me know you have any suggestions and what I should watch out for.
