JQuery :: Autocomplete Call WCF Service Method

Oct 20, 2010

I am trying to use the below code to call a wcf service method for Autocomplete functionality in a TextBox. I have written the following query:

$(document).ready(function () {
$("#<%= txtCompany.ClientID %>").autocomplete [URL], {
dataType: 'json',
parse: function (data) {
var items = data.d;
var parsed = [];
for (var i = 0; i < items.length; i++)
parsed[i] = {
data: [items[i]],
value: items[i],
result: [items[i]]
};
return parsed;
}
});
});

The same query works if I pass a Java Script array variable instead of the wcf service method. The wcf service method contract is:

[OperationContract]
[WebInvoke(Method = "GET", BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.WrappedRequest, ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)]
string[] GetTestCompanyList(string prefixText, int count);

Jquery - JSON Can Call Method In .aspx File But Not In .asmx (web Service) File

Jul 3, 2010

I am using JQuery & JSON (POST) to call webmethod. However I can call only webmethod located at aspx file but not in asmx file Below are sample codes

CustomValidate.asmx
Imports System.Web.Services
Imports System.Web.Services.Protocols
Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class CustomValidate
Inherits System.Web.Services.WebService
'ACCESS VIA JSON
<System.Web.Services.WebMethod()> _
Public Shared Function AJAX_Test(ByVal date1) As Boolean...
Return True
End Function
End Class
Javascript: JQuery JSON
function isDates(source, arguments) {
var isValidDate;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
url: "CustomValidate.asmx/AJAX_Test",
data: '{date1: "' + arguments.Value + '"}',
dataType: "json",
async: false,
success: function(result) {
isValidDate = result;
},
error: function(httpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) {
alert("status=" + textStatus + ",error=" + errorThrown);
}
});
arguments.IsValid = isValidDate;
}

It always return javascript undefined error. But if I put the AJAX_Test webmethod in aspx page and replace the url: "CustomValidate.asmx/AJAX_Test" to "mypage.aspx/AJAX_Test". It works fine.

AJAX :: Trying To Get AutoComplete To Call Web Service

Apr 26, 2010

I'm going on my 3rd day trying to get my Ajax AutoComplete textbox to call my web method. Based on my google searches, I'm not alone. I suspect the problem has something to do with the ServicePath property on the extender, although I'm not sure. My web service is at the same level, on the same server as my test web page. I'm not sure exactly what should go into the ServicePath property, although I think I've tried every possibility. Below is my web service followed by my script.

AJAX :: Autocomplete / Can't Get It To Hit The Method In My Service With A Signature?

Apr 9, 2010

I have a web control with a text box configured like this:

[Code]....

I am unable to get it to hit the method in my service with a signature like:

public
string[] GetOrganizationNames(string searchText,
int count)

but it does get to the method if I change the signature to:

public
string[] GetOrganizationNames()

For obvious reasons the second one will not do me any good. I have verified the data coming back from the method is good.

JQuery AutoComplete (UI 1.8rc3) With Web Service

Mar 18, 2010

I have this version of the autocomplete control working when returning XML from a .ashx handler. The xml looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?>
<States>
<State>
<Code>CA</Code>
<Name>California</Name>
</State>
<State>
<Code>NC</Code>
<Name>North Carolina</Name>
</State>
<State>
<Code>SC</Code>
<Name>South Carolina</Name>
</State>

The autocomplete code looks like this:

$('.autocompleteTest').autocomplete(
{
source: function(request, response) {
var list = [];
$.ajax({
url: [URL]
dataType: "xml",
async: false,
data: request,
success: function(xmlResponse) {
list = $("State", xmlResponse).map(function() {
return {
value: $("Code", this).text(),
label: $("Name", this).text()
};
}).get();
}
});
response(list);
},
focus: function(event, ui) {
$('.autocompleteTest').val(ui.item.label);
return false;
},
select: function(event, ui) {
$('.autocompleteTest').val(ui.item.label);
$('.autocompleteValue').val(ui.item.value);
return false;
}
});

For various reasons, I'd rather be calling an ASP.NET web service, but I can't get it to work. To change over to the service (I'm doing a local service to keep it simple), the start of the autocomplete code is:

$('.autocompleteTest').autocomplete(
{
source: function(request, response) {
var list = [];
$.ajax({
url: "/Services/GeneralLookup.asmx/StateList",
dataType: "xml",

This code is on a page at the root of the site and the GeneralLookup.asmx is in a subfolder named Services. But a breakpoint in the web service never gets hit, and no autocomplete list is generated. In case it makes a difference, the XML that comes from the asmx is:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<string xmlns=[URL]><State> <Code>CA</Code> <Name>California</Name> </State> <State> <Code>NC</Code> <Name>North Carolina</Name> </State> <State> <Code>SC</Code> <Name>South Carolina</Name> </State></string>

Functionally equivalent since I never use the name of the root node in the mapping code. I haven't seen anything in the jQuery docs about calling a .asmx service from this control, but a .ajax call is a .ajax call, right? I've tried various different paths to the .asmx (~/Services/), and I've even moved the service to be in the same path to eliminate these issues. No luck with either.

Javascript - Fire Method To Fill Detailsview Control From Jquery Autocomplete Input?

Mar 8, 2011

I have an input box for searching employee info (attached to a jquery autocomplete), and a box for employee number. The employee info queries multiple values (Lastname Firstname, Title, Clocknum) and returns them all as a string via the autocomplete. This is only if they dont know the clock number. The additional box is so they can search via clocknum as well.

Is there a way, to fire a method which populates a data control after clicking on or tabbing on the selected jquery autocomplete value?

C# - Call A Method Inside Code-behind Using JQuery?

Feb 9, 2010

My pages base on master and content pages and in content pages I have Multiviews; inside Multiviews I have RadComboBoxes.Two of my RadComboBoxes are parent and child, like country and city dropdowns. Therefore in code-behind I put some code in the OnSelectedIndexChange event of parent RadComboBox for filling its child; I use a hidden field for country id and sql datasources (stored procedures). Meantime parent and child combo boxes are in an update panel.For doing this job i set the autopostback property of parent combobox to true,but I do not want that autopostback=true because of some focus problems that I coded with jQuery.So I want to convert the OnSelectedIndexChange event in code-behind to a method and call it in jQuery (in change event or something like that of parent combobox). How can I do this?

Call Web Service From Another Web Application Using Jquery?

I have created an WCF data service in a new asp.net web application and i want to call this web service from another web application using jquery, but it always returns null.

My jquery call looks like this:

[code]....

Note that [URL] works in the browser but since the jquery call is from localhost:3410 i assume its a problem with cross domain.

I have been reading that i should use jsonp for this, but i have a hard time figuring it out.

JQuery Call To Web Service, With Punctuation?

Sep 14, 2010

I'm trying to call a web service and the passed string may have punctuation, depending on what the user types in.I currently have an HTML textbox and a jQuery call to the .NET web service. I definitely think the string with punctuation fails because jQuery will send the string wrong, so I tried a few different javascript encoding functions I could find. I was never able to encode it successfully and decode it in .NET, saving the string with punctuation.

Basically I have a textbox that a user can update their status in. If the user wants to use punctuation, I'd like them to be able to. How can I accomplish this with jQuery and .NET?
