<%= %> Embedded In Javascript IF Condition / Error Option Strict On Disallows Implicit Conversions From 'String' To 'Long'?
Jul 29, 2010
In aspx page:
if (<%= Not Me.ThisVisa.PassportExpirationDate.IsNull %>){
Returns error:
Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'True' is undefined
I tried this:
if ("<%= Me.ThisVisa.PassportExpirationDate.IsNull.ToString %>" != "True"){
..but I get a compile time error:
Error 5 Option Strict On disallows implicit conversions from 'String' to 'Long'

I've been manually adding the following line every time I create a new user control / web form in one of my ASP.NET web forms projects: Option Strict On. I can't just set it in web.config because it's a legacy project that has user controls / web forms that would bomb out if we turned on option strict for the entire site, so the current solution is to apply it to all new user controls / web forms and slowly update the older pages. Is there some sort of Visual Studio setting / template I can change so that "Option Strict On" is applied automatically when Visual Studio creates the codebehind files?

I know that it is basic questions, but I am stuck here.
I have TableOne have fields: USERNAME, PID, GID, TID, SID, NEWSID. I need to write query string to check if those value is already in the table. If not, insert those value to the table.
[code]....
However, I got the many errors:
Error 1 Too many characters in character literal
Error 3 Newline in constant

I've developed a web application to accept video file uploads and then pass them to a backend service on an external server. The application runs without error on the visual studio debugging webserver, but once on a production iis 6 or 7 server, yields a timeout error at about a consistent amount of time into handling a large upload. Specifically, it errors in the middle of transferring the video file to the external server, once the application has successfully received it from the client. I'm aware of several timeouts to be configured related to the problem, and have done so. The application's web config has been tested with one or both of the following settings
<system.web>
<httpRuntime executionTimeout="9999999" maxRequestLength="2048000" />
</system.web>
and
<configuration>
<location path="default.aspx"> (the page at issue that's timing out)
<system.web>
<httpRuntime executionTimeout="9999999" maxRequestLength="2048000" />
</system.web>
</location>
</configuration>
And within the initialization of the webrequest made to the external server to send the video received from the client browser:
HttpWebRequest httpWebRequest = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url);
httpWebRequest.ContentType = "multipart/form-data; boundary=" + boundary;
httpWebRequest.Method = "POST";
httpWebRequest.Timeout = System.Threading.Timeout.Infinite;
So with the execution time limits on both the webform as a whole and the connection made to the external server, I'm at a loss for what timeout is left unconfigured, or how to determine such, when I continue to get the following error: Unexpected error executing Brightcove Upload:...........................

I'm semi-new to writing ASP.Net applications using master pages and I've run into an issue I've spent some time on but can't seem to solve.
My situation is that I have a master page with a structure that looks like this:
<head runat="server">
<title>Test Site</title>
[code]...
When I run this page and click on the image I get an "Object Expected" error.However, if I place the test function into my Default.js external file it will function perfectly.

I am fetching some data from Db and displaying it in a textarea using jquery in the following way.$('#textareatest').val('<% =teststring %>').It is possible that the string 'teststring' can contain XHTML line breaks(<br/>).whenever the string contains <br/> I am getting the 'unterminated string literal' error.I saw a number of posts considering '' as line breaks and suggesting to escape it.I tried to escape the <br/> similarly,but it didn't work.

I've got a simple detailsview on a webpage for viewing, adding, and updating inspectors. Since it is a simple details view I'm just used the datasource select, update, delete, and insert commands. When I debug the page it populates the detailsview appropriately and allows me to page through the inspectors but when I try to update a field I'm getting the implicit conversion error in the attached doc. Below is my detail view markup. I was thinking the error is caused by the checkbox type being boolean while the SQL type for "Active" is bit but I've tried to use various conversion methods and can't seem to get them to work.
Code:
<asp:DetailsView ID="dvInspectors" runat="server" AllowPaging="True"
AutoGenerateRows="False" DataKeyNames="InsID" DataSourceID="InspectInfo"
Height="50px" Width="212px">
<Fields>
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Insp ID" InsertVisible="False"
SortExpression="InsID">

I am using the following code to convert any valid object, to a date time:
[Code]....
When i call this mehod from my web pages, using a blank("") value in TextBox.Text property as a parameter, the method is throwing an FormatException exception.
[Code]....
Ironically, the same method does not throw any exception with the same input when tried in a different machine.
Are there any regional setting that need to be modified in .NET 2.0 for this to work ?
P.S:
The method also works when called using a string variable, like

I have a question about javascript. In my project, there are embedded and non-embedded javascript codes. And i did localization of the embedded codes like below and it works.
CN.DEFAULT_CONFIG = {
strings : {
year: '<%=GetGlobalResourceObject("Resource", "YEAR") %>'
But, this method does not work for non-embedded javascript codes. How can i do localization for them?

I am trying to display an error to the user of a web page using a javascript alert popup, I currently have the following code to clean the error string:
errorMessage.Replace("'", "'")
But this is not sufficient as some illegal characters are not being removed, is there a static method somewhere in the framework that will format my string for clean insertion into html?Update: my initial question was slightly ambiguous. the string needs to be valid as in alert('this is some 'illegal text' that will not popup');I will try Server.HtmlEncode, hopefully it will do the trick.

In my app, I use the built-in membership for managing security. If I log into my app using my iPad or iPhone, I see some long string preceding the ReturnUrl. Here's an example of what it looks like: [URL] At that point, I'm at where I wanted to go but I'm logged off. If I try to go to another secure page, I have to log in again. And the cycle starts all over again.

I have a large(ish) text-box on my page that needs to hold a website URL. The text-box is reasonably wide however most URLs will not fit in on a single line. I want the website address to wrap a single line like this:
[URL]
However what my textbox is doing is this:
[URL]
Does anyone know how to automatically wrap a string that does not contain line feeds / white space? (Yes - Wrap is set to true!)

I have a Portable Bridge Notation formatted-file that I have to work with. I have already a few simple examples working by using indexing and substrings extracting what I need and I suppose for this PBN business it would suite me well since it isn't run too often. If I one the other hand would run that code like all the time (thinking of working with vCards) then I am worried about memory usage under high workload because of the high amout of temporary string variables created from all substrings and splits.
There are two other options available that I know of. Regex and StringReader / TextReader and I wanted some general opinion on what to use.
Intended usage is to extract to objects and serialize to json so that I can more easily work with or persist this information. Hell if it's fast enough I might even do it on the fly.

I want to call javascript confirm function in .aspx.cs page .. I have done it by using RegisterStartUpScript javascript code:
<html><head runat="server"><script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function alertMe() { //alert("Hello"); if(confirm("File with this Name Already Exists, Do you want to Replace it ?")) {
return true; } else { return false;
} } </script> </head> </html>
.aspx.cs code on button click based on some condition:
Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "alert", "alertMe();", true);
Now how can I check whether confirm returns true or false, i need to write some code based on confrim's true false return.
