View 4 RepliesI want to import DLL file in my web site project. I have dll file "my.dll" in folder C:DLLDir and I'm using the code :
[DllImport("C:\DLLDir\my.dll", EntryPoint = "Out32")]
This works ok. But I want to use relative path (web site root path) . I'm trying to put "my.dll" in "bin" or root folder and I'm using the code :
[DllImport("my.dll", EntryPoint = "Out32")]
but I'm getting the error: Unable to load DLL 'my.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)
I recently bought a new computer, so I want to copy the projects into current system which has visual studio. I have a project developed in VWD 2008. I copied the folder into a flash drive and copied it back into the new system.
Knowing the location, how I do import the project into new system?
We have a web solution. In it we have 2 websites and a core project in the core project are some classes that encapsulate data that a database utility class searches using sql and populates the entities. The entities are stored in generic lists.
We have just upgraded our project and I want to start using linq, I was wondering the best way to go about it. SHould I creata new linq project? Or Should I just use ling on new pages only and stick to our current data access layer for pags that already exist?
Its vital that we start using linq as it will save us time in the future
I have a new project where I want to use MVC (I will be learning as I code), and I have never used linq or entity (or mvc). Which should I use? Does it matter? I will be having a lot of different databases, from Oracle to FoxPro.

I'm taking over a project built by other developers and they used Linq-To-Sql, which I've used, but not with stored procedures.
Most of them work, but some don't because the stored procedure returns a dynamic select statement. So L2S doesn't understand what return type to set for the stored procedure and it return an "int" instead of a "ISingleResult<some type>".
Even if I manually change the return type to what it should be in the data context and save (I know you aren't supposed to), the stored procedures revert back to the "int" return type. Is there any way to make them always return a particular type?
I upgraded a project in my solution from RC to RTM recently using the tool provided on Codeplex. I am not getting any intellisense for linq extension methods(but I am for others). for example the following code does not show First() in the intellisense, but the code does work.
[Code]....
To test, I added a new MVC 3 RTM project to the solution and First() does show in there. I suspect its something in a web.config somewhere, but I'm at a loss, and haven't been able to pick it out with winmerge.
I have an ASP.NET 3.5 solution which has 2 projects in it: class library (data access) and the web project. The project has now changed and requires me to change the design and only have one project and move the class library into the web project. I have successfully moved most of the class library into the App_Code folder I created but continue to get an error when I run the program. The error is in regards to the Linq to SQL classes or dbml file. I continue to get a error:
Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type 'EntityRef' is not defined.
Line 868: Private _CreateDate As Date
Line 869:
Line 870: Private _Code As EntityRef(Of Code)
Line 871:
Line 872: Private _Lab As EntityRef(Of Lab)
I have changed the dbml file to use the new connection string and modified any code behind by searching all the files in my project. But continue to receive this message. I've removed all the references to my old project and also removed any old .dll's which could have had references to it and continue to have the problem. Is there maybe a reference in my project I am missing or something else simple I have overlooked?
I should also mention when I move the .dbml file outside the App_Code folder (root of the website) and right click the project and select Convert to Web Application it works just fine.
I am working on a project in which I have made changes to LINQ to SQL code in data access layer project.Initially the code was using Single() extension method, I have changed it to SingleOrDefault() was earlier method was throwing exception if no records found in db.
After making changes I ran the project but during debugging VS 2008 was showing that file is changed and do you want to reload the file box. When selected the file, the debugger was still executing the commented code (Single() method).I tried cleaning the entire solution and rebuilding it but it did not help. All the projects (Presentation, BL, DAL) are under single solution.
I have an MVC 2 web application which uses models auto-generated by LINQ. When I add a Silverlight project to my solution, generating a new strongly-typed View fails with the message:
Compiling transformation: The type or namespace name 'Data' does not exist in the namespace 'System' (are you missing an assembly reference?). I understand this is most likely because Silverlight does not access the System.Data namespace (at least, I can't add the reference to my Silverlight app). However, it's not really important - I'm just trying to generate an .aspx View at this stage, not a Silverlight View.
Is there any way to get this template generation to work, or do I have to create my Silverlight project outside the solution and build it separately? I was kind of hoping to take advtage of WCF RIA and some of the other goodies one gets from including the Silverlight app within the main solution... anybody got a fix?
When I turn on Code Coverage in my test settings, on a project that references the Unity DI container I get the following error:
Cannot initialize the ASP.NET project'{Project Name}'.
The event log specifies the following reason:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Practices.Unity, Version=2.0.414.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. Strong name signature could not be verified.
I have been using LINQ to SQL for quite a while (about two years). Every thing was fine until now. As usual, I created LINQ to SQL classes and built the project, then created an aspx page. However, I cannot see the DataClassesDataContext in the code behind file. It is not listed in the intellisense list.
View 5 RepliesI'm currently trying to work out the best way to build this web application, which will then be intergrated on other systems, such as WinForms, Intranets etc.
We hope to include the usual layers i.e. DAL, BLL, BOL and UI but I have been experimenting with Entity Framework 4 and WCF Data Services and managed to get something in place where I was using WCF as a gateway to EF4.
i.e. Adding a Service Reference to my project and then using the EF4 context and writing LINQ queries against the DB
e.g.[Code]....
Now with the current setup I would still need to write a DAL Class Library, that interacts with the Data Service, because as I said WCF Data Services only seems to be a gateway, I can't see where to put the code (above) in the Data Service and then how I could these methods.
My questions are: 1. How do I develop a WCF Data Service in such a way to allow this behaviour - I know how I could do it using ASMX web service, something like [Code]....
2. If I am to use WCF Data Services, how is serialization handled (if at all) - again I know how to do something in ASMX web services
3. Again, If I am to use WCF, how do I add Security and only allow my applications to access the web service - for obvious reasons
4. Would it be possible / logical to also include the Business Logic Layer into the web service?
I have downloaded a project from the internet called the SMS Source example. I wanted to open this project in VS2010, so a conversion wizard has popped up prompting for the conversion. But it has errors in converting.
Error msg:
Conversion Report - SMSSend.csproj:
Error converting project file. MSB0001: Internal MSBuild Error: Missing resource 'MissingAttribute'
On the Timelog page, I want to put 2 dropdown list: 1 Manufacturing Project, 1 Engineer Project. However, users can choose either Manufacturing project dropdown or Engineer project dropdown (not both).
View 4 RepliesI'm trying create unit testing for an existing website project (not web application project). I cannot access my under test classes unless I use accessor. However, if I use accessor, I have problem to initiate an object with passing arguments. I only want to create unit tetsing for App_Code. After searching web, and I found that I'd better to create a web application project using my current existing website project. From solution explorer, add new project ->using existing website. My questions is: what impact will have for my current website to create the new project? Should I just convert my current website to web application? If do that, will it cuase problems on my website? I am new on asp.net, still learning..
View 1 RepliesWe are upgrading .Net 2.0 Framework Web service project to .Net 3.5 Project. We are not changing any methods. Will there be any change in the proxy because of this Framework Upgrade. My requirement is to all the existing clients consuming this webservice should not have any impact due to this framework upgrade.

My profile as a developer is as follows:
I am a C#, .net, ASP.net developer with 3 years experience in enterprise class web and desktop projects. I can work 20 hours a week
The brief requirements of the project are as follows::
I have to develop an Ecommerce website. The website is meant for buyers, sellers, advertisers and bidders ( I would say it is Business to Business and also Business to Customer site ) The HTML's will be given by the client. The website will have all the features of any Ecommerce site like buying products, selling them, searching products, sorting them, etc The website should conform to W3C standards
I just converted an ASP.NET Web Site Project to a Web Application Project in VS 2010. After I run the application though it seems that my class polymorphism broke. I don't have a clue as to why this could occur.
So in the following code when I call base.OnLoad(e) I am getting errors in the base class because the variable myString is null. In fact all the variables for the Base class are null. I can do

Let's say I have a Visual Studio solution with a Web project, a BLL project, and a DAL project. I'm trying to follow the repository pattern keeping my SQL code in the DAL with an interface that is referenced by the BLL.
I have a handful of common solutions for things such as error handling, usage logging, and other things that can be considered utility functions (i.e. not in the business spec). I'm keeping these in a Common project.
Here are a few ideas I've had with regards to structuring the Common project...
Bundle SQL with logic in a given class
Create a layered solution within the Common project
Discard the Common project and put utility functions in with BLL/DAL
Is one of these ideas better/worse than the other? Does anyone have a better solution?
It's worth noting that these utility functions will be reused in a variety of other applications.

If you are using the Standard or Express editions of Visual Studio, the Create Unit Test Project dialog box is not displayed. Instead, the new MVC application project is generated without a test project.
I have created 2 projects in a solution. One project contains Asp.net classes with login page and different other pages.
Another project contains a web service.
When I launch the solution(click F6 in visual studio 2008) the login page can access to the method of the webservice. Both projects are launched.
However when i added this 2 projects into IIS and deploy them (with create command) the login page cannot contact the method of the web service. Even though the web service is running because i can acces it manually. But they cannot communicate each other.
