May 21, 2010I have two tables, Customer and CustomerPhone.
Single record in Customer can have multiple CustomerPhone records. As you see in the image below, Phone and Fax resides in CustomerPhone table whereas the rest of the fields resides in Customer table. If user want to edits a customer record, obviously i will have to update the record in Customer table and at least two records from CustomerPhone (Phone and Fax).
I could write two update statements, one Update customerPhone and the second update Customer table. Is there a better solution?

I've got a TextBox to capture the value of "Name" in Table A.
Ive got a CheckBoxList that displays all the pre-determined values of Table B.
When the user selects an item from the CheckBoxList i want to populate Table C with the value of the selected item from the CheckBoxList and the cooresponding ID associated with the user name for that person's entry.

Jan 4, 2011I have an C# ASP application I am writing that needs to have the capability to import a generated excel or a comma delineated sheet each day. A clerk will have this job each morning so it doesn't need to be automated. My problem in trying to understand the solution to this is that the 1 sheet contains loan information, including customer information all in the same sheet. I would like to send certain columns to update information in the loan table and send other information to update the customer table. I need it to create relationships when new loans appear in the spreadsheet.

Jul 8, 2010I was in need of exporting multiple tables in a DataSet to an Excel file with multiple sheets. I found a very good article in [URL].[URL] was able to successfully export each of my datatables in the dataset to excel worksheets. This solution worked for small number of rows. But when the data got larger I am consistently getting the system.outofmemoryexception. THis is because the code is using up the memory when creating excel.
Does anyone have another option to do the above?

Oct 20, 2010This is the sqlDateTime overflow problem again. Background. As I'm sure you know dates must be between 1/1/1753 and 12/31/2999. If you have an empty date field, it throws and exception. So I created a function (below) that solve the problem when attempting to update or insert a record with a date field. Works great.

So I thought about using a time field. I have the field, have the validator in place and then attempted to test the page. It resulted in my least favorite error message "sqlDateTime overflow".
I can think of several workarounds like adding a date or a fixed date to the time field, or converting it to a string. Each of these is problematic.
IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO UPDATE/INSERT TIME FIELDS.

How to insert data in both tables using TransactionScope so if any of the record from the two tables generate error complete transaction roll-back.
One thing more I am using TableAdapters, My initial concept was inserting record in SalesOrderHeader, get SalesOrderId using Scope_Identity & bulkInsert Records to SalesOrderDetail using TransactionScope.

Table1: T1id, SomeData
Table2: T2id, T1id, SomeData
I am using DataAdapter.FillSchema to create shema of tables in DataSet. I created DataRelation on columns
T1id in both tables.
Now when i try to Update Sql Database T1id in Table2 remains 0 and not the value of T1id in Table1.
I can successfully update Sql Database if i fill DataSet with records first (Using DataAdapter.Fill), but that's not what i want to do. I don't need "old" records in my dataset. I want to use dataset just to store all imputs from user until the proccess is done and then insert all those records "at the same time".

I tried creating a datasource which inserted data into Matrixoneanttwo and called it from the detailsview_inserting event (sqldatasource.insert() but then i realised that this data source is seperate to my current one and therefore cannot use its parameters.

Mar 18, 2011I have 3 tables. I need to insert data from 2 tables into the 3rd table.
The first table has 2 fields -- c_id, c_key
The second table has -- t_id, u_id, partial_c_key
I need to insert c_id, u_id in the 3rd table.
Problem is partial_c_key in the second table contains only a part of the c_key in the first table.
Ex:
First table:
c_id--c_key
1--200A
2--200B
3--200C
4--301A
Second Table:
t_id -- u_id -- partial_c_key
1--23--200
2--36--301
In the data above partial_c_key 200 has 3 c_ids in the first table (1,2,3 with values 200A, 200B, 200C) and 301 has just 1 which is 301A.
In the 3rd table I need to insert c_id, u_id so the data should be
u_id -- c_id
23 -- 1
23 -- 2
23 -- 3
36 -- 4
How do I write a query to accomplish that?
