ADO.NET :: Reading MS SQL Table With C#
Mar 4, 2011
I'm wondering how to read a table from a SELECT query from an MS SQL database with ASP.NET and C#? The connectionSettings are stored in conenctions.config and I want to use that. Also, what is the GenericDataAccess class and how do I use it?

Here's a short explanation of my asp.net project.
1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page.
2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.
In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".
Some extra info:
- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone
- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)
- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)
- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)
- the web.config files access connection string looks like:
<add name="AccessConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\<IP><shared-folder>statistics.mdb;User Id=admin; Password=;" />
Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)
Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:
- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)
- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.
I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.

I am writing code to insert values from an xml file. I check for a duplicate before inserting and delete if there is a match. Is there a more effecient way to prevent duplicates before insert a record? my code: private void LoadFData() { SqlConnection oConn = new SqlConnection(ConnectionString); SqlCommand oCommand = new SqlCommand(); oCommand.Connection = oConn; oCommand.CommandType = CommandType.Text; oConn.Open(); // Load committee master files string[] strFiles = System.IO.Directory.GetFiles("fff", "ffff.dta", System.IO.SearchOption.AllDirectories); for (int i=0; i

I know this is probably a pretty easy thing to do and it is if I can upload the file and store it onto the hard drive of the server. What I need to do is read the text file into memory and then parse through it one line at a time. Anyone have any code that demonstrates that?

I was trying to go through this tutorial:
[URL]
but when I tried to add the service reference to the silverlight app, the Add Service Reference window would show me that there was a service file, but the node wouldn't expand to show the rest of the files that contain the services and what not. I got this error instead:
"An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately."
"Parser Error Message:There is no service behavior named 'AdventureWorks_WebServer.Service1Behavior'."
"Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://localhost:55579/Service1.svc'.
The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error.
If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again."
here's my web.config file:

my main intention is that, the exsisting table of sql server database(.dbo) with 1000's of records, that should be import to a new access database table(.mdb).for example if we want to had a new table in db2, of exsisting table in db1 with some conditions by using "select * into New_Tabel from (select * from Exsisting_Table where <Condition>) as objectName". Here the new table is created and records inserted in one execution in db2. The same work should be done for access(sqlserver db --> Access db).Here the new access database table with given name (as string_sysdate) must be created dynamically by clicking a button (multiples time creating new table).Is there any query or c# code for sql server database to access database.

I have a Library ( DLL ) that has a method with the following:
var masterKey =
Registry.
LocalMachine.
OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dynamics\5.0\");
When running this method in an WinForms applicaiton, masterKey is not null and when running this in asp.net masterKey is null!
I've checked the executing user with WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name and the same user is executing both applications. The asp.net application is executed in visual studio ( debug: F5 ) and so is the WinForms application. I've set the permissions to none what so ever and this gives me "Access Denied". And when I add the group Users I get null. Which would mean that I can fold up the strucutre and see that it's there, but I cannot access the keys/entried.

I am trying to use domain masking to simulate multi-tenant access to my application. The plan right now is to read the subdomain portion of the domain ie: [URL] and load settings from the DB using that name.
The issue I'm having is that request.url is getting the request url - NOT the url in the browser.
So if I have [URL] forwarding to [URL] with masking, request.url is grabbing the latter, simply because of how masking works, i assume - by putting the masked site inside of a frame.
Is it even possible to read the url in the browsers address bar?

I have a webform with 6 controls (3 drop downs, 2 text boxes, 1 file upload box). User makes selections, chooses a pdf file to upload, then clicks on a submit button which uploads the data and pdf file to a SQL database. Everything works good up to this point, data is uploaded, pdf is sent to database as binary data. Problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to get the form to "re-read" (for lack of a better word) the database, it looks as though a new record was not inserted although it was. There is a field for "ID" that shows what the record ID will be (the next greatest number to the previous record) and that field does not increment unless I stop running the web app and restart. I've included the code behind for the button_click event:

Is there a way to read and write files on a client's computer using a web based application? Basically I need to create a internal app that will take two input CSV files and convert it into an output CSV file that is written to the same location as the input files on the client's computers.
Since this is an internal app, I don't have to worry about security. I can easily write a C# app for this but I want to create a ASP.NET app (or any other format). I even looked into creating a HTA application.

I've moved my appsettings section outside of the web.config using:
<appSettings configSource="AppSettings.config"/>
This allows me to change my appsettings without actually restarting IIS.
I know however, that IIS monitors all configuration files constantly. How can I attach to event my-appsetting-has-changed to take some custom action upon that?

I would like to be able to read an image based on a url hosted elsewhere. To be clear, this is a legitimate service that is provided and they do allow caching of data, so I'm not trying to steal someone elses data.
So far I have the following code:
public static byte[] GetBytesFromUrl(string url)
{
byte[] bytes;
HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url);
WebResponse resp = req.GetResponse();
The area that I'm looking to improve on is the emboldened line. I think it would be better to read in say 1024k chunks until the file end. Can anyone help me out with the syntax for this?
