Dynamically Reading App.settings?

Aug 9, 2010

I've moved my appsettings section outside of the web.config using:

<appSettings configSource="AppSettings.config"/>

This allows me to change my appsettings without actually restarting IIS.

I know however, that IIS monitors all configuration files constantly. How can I attach to event my-appsetting-has-changed to take some custom action upon that?

Reading Settings From Separate Config File?

My asp.net app has is using a web.config for common configuration. I also have a section that maps some data objects to connection strings, and that section is going to be couple thousand of lines. I want to move that section to another config file "dataMappings.config", so I don't bulk up web.config - is there a standard mechanism of accessing that config file?

Web Forms :: Reading Dynamically Generated Textbox Value?

May 27, 2010

I have a form that has dynamically generated textboxes using javascript.

My question is how can I read the values of these dynamically generated textboxes since I dont see any HTML in the page source for these textboxes even though they appear in the page.

I tried to read using

var str = document.getElementById('txtHello').value;

It always returns null.

txtHello is the Id which I have given to the textbox when I generated it dynamically using javascript.

C# - Reading Dynamically Generated HTML Element Value In Codebehind

Dec 28, 2010

I have an asp.net page where i have the below markup.Basically this markup is generated from codebehind by reading records from a table and looping thru them.For each record in table,there will be a div block. Basically this form is to read/show settings for a user.The settings entries are stored in a table.

<div id='divContainer' runat='server'>
<div id='div1' runat='server'>
<table>
<tr>
<th>Name</th>
<td><input type='text' id='txtName1' value='something' /></td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
<div id='div2' runat='server'>
<table>
<tr>
<th>Domain name</th>
<td><input type='text' id='txtName2' value='something' /></td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
<div id='div3' runat='server'>
<table>
<tr>
<th>URL</th>
<td><input type='text' id='txtName3' value='something' /></td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
<div id='div4' runat='server'>
<table>
<tr>
<th>Some other value is enabled ?</th>
<td><input type='checkbox' id='chk4' /></td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
</div>

The id's of each input element will be unique. Now in codebehind i want to read the values of each input elment to save the changes user made.How can i read the elements here ? Since the mark up is generated in codebehind as a string and appended the the INNER HTML of the external div,I cant read values like we do for a control which we drag and drop in the IDE.

Visual Studio :: Group Profiles Settings - Users In The Group Update The Same Settings?

Jan 19, 2010

We have many different clients, and each client can have multiple user accounts.Right now, we have user settings set up on the ASP project, and a WinForms application can see these settings, depending on which user logs into the winforms application. They are specific to the user. I want to make them specific to the client, so users can be in "groups" by their client, and all users in the group would see/update the same settings.

Reading A File Into Memory And Then Reading It One Line At A Time?

WCF / ASMX :: Add Service Reference Reading Svc File But Not Reading Service?

I was trying to go through this tutorial:

but when I tried to add the service reference to the silverlight app, the Add Service Reference window would show me that there was a service file, but the node wouldn't expand to show the rest of the files that contain the services and what not. I got this error instead:

"An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately."

"Parser Error Message:There is no service behavior named 'AdventureWorks_WebServer.Service1Behavior'."

"Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://localhost:55579/Service1.svc'.

The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error.

If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again."

here's my web.config file:

Changing Word Settings In C#?

Nov 29, 2010

I am creating a word document dynamically with some html content programatically, in my application. When I open this document with Response.Redirect("MyFile.doc"), it works fine.

But my Client, when trying to print the word document, says that the default setting has to be 'Landscape' and not 'Portrait'.

I am not sure if we have an option of changing the MS-Word Application setting through C#. (I guess it might be possible with Interop, but Interop is not working in our Production environment and so don't prefer that option)

How To Change The Browser Settings For IE8

Jul 2, 2010

Is there a way to change the browser settings for IE8, directly using the .net code.

I had developed an application, which has a functionality to upload a file from My Networks. I browse the file and try to upload it. It works fine in IE6. But in IE8, instead of displaying me the path of the file, it gives C:/Fakepath. When I enable the security setting of browser "include full path while uploading the file from the server", it works fine and gives me the whole path.

C# - Web Application Azure Settings?

Dec 6, 2010

We're currently refactoring our ASP.NET 4.0 Web Application to run on both plain old IIS and Azure. For the Settings (in the Properties namespace), I'd like to implement the State Pattern with an AzureSettingsState and a StandaloneSettingsState, which both provide settings getter methods.Now could anybody help me figuring out how ASP.NET deserializes the non-String values (e.g. TimeSpan or StringCollection), so that I can deserialize them on my own in the context class? All settings seem to be strings there.

public abstract class ConfigStateBase
{
public abstract string GetSettingValue(string setting);
}

Store Config Settings For A .NET DLL (not EXE Or Web)?

Jan 19, 2011

I have a .NET 4 class library project, which is used by multiple web projects. In this class library I need to get a DB connection string and it needs to be the same for all the web projects. Currently I've got it as a setting in each web.config file, but this is not ideal. Is there any way I can have that configuration stored with the DLL, but still allow it to be modified at runtime (ie. hardcoding the connection string is out)?

App.config seems to be generally ignored for a DLL, even though it does get renamed to assemblyname.dll.config and copied to the bin directory for the web. I tried making it an "application setting" (ie. using the auto-generated class derived from System.Configuration.ApplicationSettingsBase) and this appeared to work, but changing the value in the DLL .config file at runtime had no effect, so I suspect it's really just using the hardcoded default value of the setting.

C# - Set Recaptcha Key Settings At Runtime?

Jun 25, 2010

I'm implementing the recaptcha control from google.

I built a simple c# test project from their example and all works. Now, instead of having the PublicKey and PrivateKey in the aspx page, I'd rather assign these values at run time as they will most likely be pulled from either the web.config or a database table.

I tried the following in the Page_Load

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
recaptcha.PublicKey = "<deleted for obvious reasons>";
recaptcha.PrivateKey = "<ditto>";
}

but I get an error stating "reCAPTCHA needs to be configured with a public & private key."

I also tried overriding the oninit method of the page and assigning the values there, but no joy.

C# - Settings Class In Website?

Nov 20, 2010

I have a Settings.cs class that exposes some Static properties. Those properties are read-only. This class reside in a seperate DLL than the website.

On the application start, I need to initialize the Settings.cs class and populate the Static properties with values. This shall be done once per Application Start.

I am hooking to the Application_Start event in the Web Application. How can I access those "private" Static properties on the Settings.cs class (residing in a separate DLL)?

I have one option which is let the Settings.cs class populate itself. But again I need to do so once per application start.

Multiligual Website Culture Settings?

Jan 18, 2010

In asp.net multilingual website in english Uk and swedish, i have three rsources file

1. en-GB.resx
2. sv-SE.resx
3. Culture neutral file.

I have create one base class and all pages is inherited from that class. There i write following lines to set UICULTURE and culture

1. Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = CultureInfo.CurrentUICulture.Name;
2. Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.Name;

Question: Suppose my browser language is Swedish(sv-SE) then this code will run because it find CurrentUICulture and CurrentCulture values as sv-SE.

Now if suppose browser language is Swedish(sv) only, in that case values will be set as

CurrentUICulture = sv; and CurrentCulture = sv-SE

Now the problem is that user can able to view all text in Culture neutral resource file that i kept as english while all decimal saperators, currency and other will be appear in swedish.
It looks confusing to usr.

What would be right approach. I am thinking following solution.

1. i can create extra resource file for sv also.
2. I check value of CurrentUICulture in base class and if it is sv then replace it with sv-SE

Please correct me which one is right approach or Is there any other good way of doing?
