I have a .txt file and i open this file, read it and encrypt and decrypt it, it works fine. Now i want to read all types of files like .png, .pdf, .doc etc and do encryption /decryption. file.readtoend() does not work here. How can i do tht?

it complains me that "sample.txt" not found in "c:Program Files....."Won't the runtime automatically look into the bin folder?what modification do i need to do?
I have write small web-service that recieves query and read txt file for matching. For it I'm using StreamReader.
I'm not waiting that it will be thousands of users in hour for this service, but whats worried me - if some users at the same time will be use that service is it ok? Can text file on server side be readed at same time from some users?

View 1 RepliesI'm working on a project in ASP.Net, and it requires reading/writing to files on my server. I'm hosted at GoDaddy, and they swear they've got me at Medium Trust. When I try to read or write files that are in my own domain, I get Security Exceptions. I've tried multiple ways of opening/saving the files and they all return security errors. Here's the most recent error and offending line of code (I didn't save them all, they're all pretty much the same thing):
Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.MediaPermission, WindowsBase, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' failed.

Is read/write supposed to be blocked by medium trust? This is a time-sensitive project and this is a brick wall for me. The deadline is end of business day tomorrow and GoDaddy isn't responding.
One of my NUnit tests has to read in some values from config files. In my main application this process works perfectly well, however when I run the unit test, the code that reads in the values from the config files doesnt read anything in. Ive tried putting app.config in my unit test project (I even tried web.config) but nothing seems to work. Are there any special steps involved when reading from config files in an nunit test ?

When structuring my class I decided to go with an abstract-like pattern (without the factory methods though). So I have a Type abstract class that defines my Save, Delete, and GetList methods. I have a training type class that inherits this class. The thing is all types have 3 main properties - defined in the abstract base - but have different source tables and thus different store procedures in my DbCommand object. So basically I repeat setting up the same parameters on all the derived classes. I would like to implement the common stuff in the base but I am getting thrown off by the difference in data sources.
i've got some problem reading excel files to store into sqlserver database. currently my code has a fileupload control and a button for me to save the excel file into a folder and read the data inside the excel file and write it into the sql database. The code works only if the excel sheet name is Sheet1.xlsx, however i tried upload a diff file named ImportUserFile.xlsx and it gave me the exception below. 'ImportUserFile$' is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not too long. i have also tried other file names and it seemed only Sheet1.xlsx works.

but when I tried to add the service reference to the silverlight app, the Add Service Reference window would show me that there was a service file, but the node wouldn't expand to show the rest of the files that contain the services and what not. I got this error instead:

Let's say i want a property TextWebControl that is a WebControl and also implements Web.UI.ITextControl(f.e. like a TextBox or Label). But i don't want to enforce that it is a TextBox or Label, but only one that inherits from WebControl and also implements ITextControl so that it also would work with controls added in future releases of .Net-Framework.

Normally it's no problem for me to understand C# also, but i must admit that it's difficult to translate generic stuff to VB.Net without experiences and it's also better documentated in C# than in VB.
