It seem to me that this was hard...

I get this run time error "no supported translation to SQL".
What i want is to get lists of the posts, and do a small quick calculations of the rating and then sort those from highest to low and take 5 posts only.

Google Language Translation API but am struggling on two levels.
I have read the support notes
http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxlang...ion/#Translate
And can get the example to work where the details are hard coded and it displays the translation on load.However I am struggling to figure out how to make it work passing in parameters and on button click.
Code:
<script language="Javascript" type="text/javascript">
google.load("language", "1");
function initialize()
{
google.language.translate('hello', 'en', 'es', function(result) {
if (!result.error) {
var container = document.getElementById("translation");
container.innerHTML = result.translation;
}

I am looking for a web service or an API that I can use to translate text from one language to the other.The size of the text will be limited to 10,000 characters. I understand that Google and Babelfish have websites to do this. But I need to integrate it as a part of my web application.

I'm conducting a project in which a website should have multi-language support.Now, this website is supposed to serve about 500K+ visitors a day, so it must be super-efficient.
I've created a table of parameters {[ID],[Name]} AND a linkage-table {[objectID],[parameterID],[languageID],[value]}. I think it's the best way to deploy multi-language support while having the privilege to translate different parameters for each language.
As far as I know, server's memory is much faster than a physical HDD. Therefore, I'm planning to store ASP.NET Application State objects for my translation architecture.[URL]

I've used a very interesting article (which i recommend, you can see it here :http://adamyan.blogspot.com/), and i've started to localize my asp net mvc2 site.However, i've come to a point where i don't know if it would be possible to do something else, or if i just have to do it this way The thing is, most of the pages are text and links and stuff. In general, all of the links i have them using some markup and calling the Html.ActionLink (for example). So, if i'm translating a page that has 20 links, i would have to split all of those texts into 20 entries in the resx file (and the Html.ActionLink text would have to have its own resx entry, of course). I find this a little bit unpractical. Is there a way to just copy the whole contents, and make some intermediary parse the tags in the resx file and call the appropriate code?

I have a multilanguage application and I use resource files (.resx). I hired a person to make the translation. My question is, am I supposed to give him the resource files in order to make the translation and how he will open the resource files? Obviously, he doesn't have a copy of Visual Studio! Is there any tool that I can give him in order to work with the resource files?

There's an issue I'm having in several areas of my ASP.NET site, but am using the following as an example. If I can get it solved, then I'm reasonably sure it has applications elsewhere.Let's say I have a gridview based on the aspnet_membership table. Its LINQ datasource is aspnet_membership, which exists in my datacontext.By itself, it works GREAT in the grid.However, showing UserId in and of itself doesn't have much meaning; I wanted to include UserName.So, in my Public Partial Class, I created a read-only property UserName:
[Code]....
This retrieves and displays the correct data, no problem there.However, I'm not able to sort on that new column. When I attempt to do so, I get the following error: The member 'aspnet_Membership.UserName' has no supported translation to SQL.A workaround is, of course, to use a Sql datasource. But as I'm learning more about LINQ and the partial classes, I want to learn how to do it the correct way.

public class OneControl
{
...
public OneControl Content(Action value) {
ContentProperty = value;
return this;
}
public void Render()
{
ContentProperty();
}
...
}
Then I got this in my view :
<div id="pleaseHelpMe">
<% OneControlInstance.Content(() => { %>
Some Mixed Stuff <%= Example%> Euros
<% }).Render() %>
</div>
I would like to use this syntax in my UI library, I know how to implement this but I don't know HOW it actually works! I understand that somewhere and somewhat a delegate is created and provided as an argument of the method Content, but can't find any information about this mecanism or technic. Assumed current correct answer : The compiler translates the aspx code below into (symbolic translation for comprehension):
<div id="pleaseHelpMe">
<% OneControlInstance.Content(() => {
ViewPageInstance.Response.Write("Some Mixed Stuff ");
ViewPageInstance.Response.Write(Example);
ViewPageInstance.Response.Write(" Euros");
}).Render() %>
</div>

I have worked on many localized sites in the past, using mainy some standard patterns and techniques involving Global/Local RESX files as well as session to maintain currently selected language.
However, it is quite difficult to maintain from a translator point of view, we used a small tool that converts RESX to Excel and then the localized Excel back to RESX, but for some reason this technique doesnt work properly anymore...
better and more reliable tools (paid or free) that can be used to localize RESX and provide translation team a better/easier way to localize content?

I want a program that can keep track of all components that need translation (labels, strings, fields), and then I can give the pieces to a person to translate and gather the translated text back into to the program and it will compile all of the text into a new application in the foreign language. I did find Sisulizer (a localization tool) but it doesnt work with Asp.net Controls properly.

As I am working thru the NerdDinner MVC example. I found that after implementing step 6 that edits to a dinner were no longer saved. After some investigation I found that I needed to add the ValueProvider to the UpdateModel function call in Edit (HttpPost) example. My updated code is below.
Questions:
1. Was this code change really necessary?
2. Is there a better way to do it?
Modified Code:

I have an ASP.NET 4 site that uses the new SQL CE 4 CTP. The site works fine locally (IIS 7.5 on Win7) and fine in Server 2003/IIS 6. It fails when deploying to IIS 7 on Server 2008. The error I get is:
Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
The interesting thing is if I switch the app pool user from its default user to LocalSystem, everything works great. So clearly there is a permissions problem somewhere.
Long story short, does anyone know what special permissions need to be set when deploying a SQL CE 4 database? (BTW, we have already set r/w access on the db itself and on c:windows emp)

I'd like to clean up the web.config and remove unneeded XML.
A default ASP.NET 3.5 web application has the follow elements in the web.config:
<httpHandlers>
<remove verb="*" path="*.asmx"/>
<add verb="*" path="*.asmx" validate="false" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add verb="*" path="*_AppService.axd" validate="false" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add verb="GET,HEAD" path="ScriptResource.axd" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" validate="false"/>
</httpHandlers>
<httpModules>
<add name="ScriptModule" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptModule, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add name="UrlRoutingModule" type="System.Web.Routing.UrlRoutingModule, System.Web.Routing, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" />
</httpModules>
When running under IIS7, which has modules and handlers being registered under the system.webServer element, is the configuration above still needed?

I have a member function that does not depend on any member variables of the class. (in my case the class is an ASP.Net Page)
The function is protected, I dont need it outside of this class. Its only purpose is to build an URL from an given object.
Should I make all my functions static if they dont depend on the class, even if they are not used outside of this class?
