i want to change the database.
how can i change the database while using LINQ to SQL?
can i change the database from changing the connection string in web.config file?
the new database is identical to my old database but name is changed.
i have a class library and i want to use it in difrent web form application.
i created a linq data class and i drag and drop the table of my local database in it.
now i want to use this class library in my web form application with a database in server with difrent database name but with same tables and also the connectionString Name is the same.
in my class library i call myDataContax("MyConnectionStringName")
my question is when i use a connectionstring with the same connectionString Name as my Class library ConentionString Name but with difrent database name it will work or not?
I have a solution which uses Linq to SQL Data Classes to acced the db. I have a project for my domain objects in my solution, which is a class library and has the dbml file. When I set up the dmbl using the wizard, Visual Studio created anapp.config file on that project with the connection string. It also creatting asettings file with the same info. I've noticed that if I change the connection string in the settings file, the app.config gets updated, which is the expected behaviour.
However, I'm having a problem when I deploy my web site to the production server. I already set the app.config file's Build Action to "Content", and also set Copy to ouput directory to "Always". Nevertheless, when I install the web site and change the connection string in the app.config file, it still takes the old connection string, so obviously I get an error. I've found that it only works if I change it with in Visual Studio and then compile, but of course that's not an optimal solution, because any change in the production db server would mean I have to change my project's assembly, thus generating a new version.
What do I have to configure so that the assembly takes the connection string form my app.config file directly after I deploy?
I am working on a project in which I have made changes to LINQ to SQL code in data access layer project.Initially the code was using Single() extension method, I have changed it to SingleOrDefault() was earlier method was throwing exception if no records found in db.
After making changes I ran the project but during debugging VS 2008 was showing that file is changed and do you want to reload the file box. When selected the file, the debugger was still executing the commented code (Single() method).I tried cleaning the entire solution and rebuilding it but it did not help. All the projects (Presentation, BL, DAL) are under single solution.

My question is that, for each control the Stored Procedure called or not? If it is yes then it is time consuming and I need to use LINQ to DataSet or LINQ to Object rather than to call SP for each control. What is difference between LINQ to DataSet and LINQ to Object?

I have a gridview in which I have several editable fields. The user wants a non-editable field to be modified if another field is modified in the same row. e.g. if Age>=65, Status should ="Retired"

to create a bulk edit gridview so some columns are automatically editable and others aren't, with a single update button. I can set Status="Retired" in the xml generated, or as a rule in database table. But I'd like the status field in the gridview to change when Age is modified and to be shown to user before they press the single Update button. I'm using update panels and ajax on the page also.

Based on language selection im changing master page and gridview will be bind with data based on language from database . First Table I have many recods with related second table.
