I need to set up the slide show based on a querystring parameter. I thought I had this figured out, but I clearly don't understand something about how the webservice works. I have this in the .aspx page:
<asp:Button ID="btnPrev" runat="server" Text="Prev" />
<asp:Button ID="btnPlay" runat="server" Text="Play" />
<asp:Button ID="btnNext" runat="server" Text="Next" />
<asp:Label ID="lblDesc" runat="server" />
<cc1:SlideShowExtender ID="SlideShowExtender1" runat="server" BehaviorID="SSBehaviorID"
TargetControlID="tstSlides"
AutoPlay="true"
ImageDescriptionLabelID="lblDesc"
NextButtonID="btnNext"
PreviousButtonID="btnPrev"
PlayButtonID="btnPlay"
PlayButtonText="Play"
StopButtonText="Stop"
Loop="true" >
</cc1:SlideShowExtender>
<asp:Image ID="tstSlides" runat="server" height="300px" Width="300px" />
And this in the code behind:.........................

I have a webservice (ASP.NET) deployed on a webfarm. A client application consumes it on daily basis. The problem is that some of its calls are duplicated (with difference of milliseconds). For example I have a function Foo(string a,string b). The client app calls this webmethod as Foo('test1','test2') once but my log shows that it is being called twice or sometimes 3 or 4 times randomly. Is this anything wrong with the webfarm or the code? Note that the webmethod has simple straighfarward insert and update statements.

I have web app which stores certain things on a page in a cookie when the page posts back in case the user doesn't finish what they're doing and come back later. But now I must do a javascript time-out and actively save the info to the cookie rather than wait for the user to postback. All my cookie code is on server side where I use Response and Request objects to read and write cookies and I want to leverage that. So I would like to just use ajax calls to a webservice. Is there a way for me to access Request and Response objects and read and write cookies to the browser via those objects during a webservice call? Or should I just go with javascript?
EDIT: Sorry i wanted to specify that I would like to use jquery-ajax.

I am relatively new to asp.net. In My asp.net website, i have a method GetData(int id) which is called Repetitively, depending on id count, GetData is desinged to get data from sharepoint and sql server both. if the Id count is high say =10, my page load time increases because GetData is called 10 times and the page load time keeps adding up. so I want to ask, is there any way that this GetData() be called asynchornously or by the use of some thread, so that my page loads faster.

I'm using visual studio 2010 and sql server 2008. I'm trying to use a web method to get urls from a database for an ajax slide extender control. I’ve been able to create a web method to call the slides and it worked. Then I wanted to create a parameter in my web method that took a parameter. I’ve been unable to get it to work with the parameter with the web method. I’m either using the wrong syntax when calling the parameter or my web method is incorrect.
This is the code for the web method with out parameter that works
Code:
<WebMethod()> _
Public Function GetSlidesDBGalEngage() As AjaxControlToolkit.Slide()
Dim connetionString As String
Dim connection As SqlConnection
Dim command As SqlCommand
[Code] ....
This is the way I calling the web method in my extender that works
HTML Code:
<cc1:SlideShowExtender ID="SlideShowExtender1" runat="server" AutoPlay="True"
ImageDescriptionLabelID="label1" NextButtonID="btnNext"
SlideShowServiceMethod="GetSlidesDBGalRecept" SlideShowServicePath="../SlideService.asmx"
PlayButtonID = "btnPlay" PreviousButtonID="btnPrev"
TargetControlID="image1">
</cc1:SlideShowExtender>
This is my web method which has a paramater
Code:
<WebMethod()> _
Public Function GetSlidesDBGalEngage(ByVal Category As String) As AjaxControlToolkit.Slide()
Dim command As SqlCommand
Dim adapter As New SqlDataAdapter
[Code] ....
This is how I'm trying to call the web method with paramater from my slide extender which doesn't work
HTML Code:
<cc1:SlideShowExtender ID="SlideShowExtender1" runat="server" AutoPlay="True"
ImageDescriptionLabelID="label1" NextButtonID="btnNext"
[B]SlideShowServiceMethod="GetSlidesDBGalParm("Other")"
[I]I've tried using both single qoutes and double quotes and notheing works[/I].[/B]
SlideShowServicePath="../SlideService.asmx"
PlayButtonID = "btnPlay" PreviousButtonID="btnPrev"
TargetControlID="image1" ClientIDMode="AutoID">
</cc1:SlideShowExtender>
Something is wrong with the syntax in the web method with the paramter or something is wrong with the way I'm calling it .

Are there any transactions around multiple webservice calls.Let me start with a commonly used example -- the travel agency. A customer intends to create a travel plan through an online travel agency. To do this, the online travel application calls the following three Web services:
-Air ticket booking
-Hotel reservation
-Taxi reservation
These three services are available from three separate vendors. If any one of these three services fails, the customer does not wish to proceed with the transaction (again, either all three services must succeed or none at all).My language programming is Asp.net c#.

I have data that is stored on a local machine and periodically replicated using webservices. This data is critical to the application of this program and is along the lines of business transactions.
TransactionHeader JOIN TransactionDetail
So forth.
Should I be using some type of CRC checking when sending the data to the webservice or is this handled by the TCP protocol itself sufficiently?
EDIT: Just to be clear the data isnt deleted from the client until the server acknowledges receipt and I use strongly typed parameters in my webservice but I am more thinking about "mangled" data (although in all cases but string it should theoretically fail datatype casting).

i have developed a AutoComplete Search with the JAX AutoCompleteExtender Now i found a solution to use these control without a webservice (amsx) you only have the function in the codebehind (default.aspx.cs) , to do this you must let theServicePath empty. In the codebehind of your webpage is only the function which gets the data from the database.Important the function must be static !! Here is a good description: http://allwrong.wordpress.com/2007/03/13/ms-ajax-autocomplete-extender-using-a-page-method/

Let´s come to my problem, i wanted to store these functionality in a webcontrol => AutoCompleteSearch.ascx
So i put the code from the default.aspx an .cs in the AutoCompleteSearch.ascx control. After i started the webapplication there was no functionality. So tried to let the

I have this slideshow extender that works perfectly with hard coded images in the page method. However as soon as I try to make the page method get its images from the database it stops working; no images are returned.
I have tried to declare the datatable that the pagemethod uses both inside the pagemethod and in the on_load event. When in the last case I test the datatable contents by hooking it up to a gridview, it shows that it does get its proper data.
Declaring this dataTable as a private static dataTable, outside the page_load, to make it accessible in the page method (like in this --- post http://forums.asp.net/p/1115257/1726736.aspx---) also does not work.
So the page method with hard coded images works and also the query to the database works!
