How To Save And Retrieve Cookies Using Ajax Webservice Calls
Jan 26, 2010
I have web app which stores certain things on a page in a cookie when the page posts back in case the user doesn't finish what they're doing and come back later. But now I must do a javascript time-out and actively save the info to the cookie rather than wait for the user to postback. All my cookie code is on server side where I use Response and Request objects to read and write cookies and I want to leverage that. So I would like to just use ajax calls to a webservice. Is there a way for me to access Request and Response objects and read and write cookies to the browser via those objects during a webservice call? Or should I just go with javascript?
EDIT: Sorry i wanted to specify that I would like to use jquery-ajax.

I want to save fckeditor value in cookies. And fckeditor have value as " Hi <name>, and so on .." I am using following code :
My Code:
Save:
private void CookiesCreated()
{
//Create a new cookie, passing the name
HttpCookie cookie = new HttpCookie("BodyText");
//Set the cookies value
cookie.Value = Server.HtmlEncode(fckeditor.Value);
//Set the cookie to expire in 1 minute
cookie.Expires = DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(1);
//Add the cookie
Response.Cookies.Add(cookie);
}
Retrieve:
if (Request.Cookies["BodyText"] != null)
{
fckeditor.Value = Server.HtmlDecode(Request.Cookies["BodyText"].Value);
}
But i am uncomfortable to get the original value, i am getting only (<) this.

I have a string array that contains comma seperated values. I want these values to show into ListView using DataRow and DataTable.
For understanding purpose I have below sample code:
string[] cookie_IDs = ehscookieData.Split(',');
Now I have to show all the values of cookie_IDs[] into ListView using DataRow and DataTable.

I have a webservice (ASP.NET) deployed on a webfarm. A client application consumes it on daily basis. The problem is that some of its calls are duplicated (with difference of milliseconds). For example I have a function Foo(string a,string b). The client app calls this webmethod as Foo('test1','test2') once but my log shows that it is being called twice or sometimes 3 or 4 times randomly. Is this anything wrong with the webfarm or the code? Note that the webmethod has simple straighfarward insert and update statements.

I'm working with the MicrosoftAjax.js libraries to make my webservice calls via javascript, right now all my services are returning basic types, like string, int, bool. can i also have my services return things like DataSets, DataTables, or custom Classes that I have built to my javascript side?

Are there any transactions around multiple webservice calls.Let me start with a commonly used example -- the travel agency. A customer intends to create a travel plan through an online travel agency. To do this, the online travel application calls the following three Web services:
-Air ticket booking
-Hotel reservation
-Taxi reservation
These three services are available from three separate vendors. If any one of these three services fails, the customer does not wish to proceed with the transaction (again, either all three services must succeed or none at all).My language programming is Asp.net c#.

I have data that is stored on a local machine and periodically replicated using webservices. This data is critical to the application of this program and is along the lines of business transactions.
TransactionHeader JOIN TransactionDetail
So forth.
Should I be using some type of CRC checking when sending the data to the webservice or is this handled by the TCP protocol itself sufficiently?
EDIT: Just to be clear the data isnt deleted from the client until the server acknowledges receipt and I use strongly typed parameters in my webservice but I am more thinking about "mangled" data (although in all cases but string it should theoretically fail datatype casting).

I am using the code below to recreate a modalPopup window. At each UpdatePanel refresh I "lose" the window but I recreate it again after my Panel is updated. This gives me the impression that the windows is always open. The only problem is after I drag and drop it to a different location, the window is recreated back in its original location:
if ($find(MPIDList[clientID]) == null) {
$create(Sys.Extended.UI.ModalPopupBehavior,
{ "BackgroundCssClass": "modalBackground",
"CancelControlID": CancelControlIDList[instanceId],
"DropShadow": true,
"X": 50, "Y": 250,
"PopupControlID": PopupControlIDList[instanceId],
"PopupDragHandleControlID": PopupDragHandleControlIDList[instanceId],
"id": MPIDList[instanceId]
}, null, null, sender);
So I was trying to do the following:
1 - Initialize a global var for X and Y with the static values of 50 and 250;
2 - Show the window and drag it to a different location;
3 - UpdatePanel is refreshed and my Gridview is data bound with new data
On step 3 above I need to find a way to save the current window position BEFORE UpdatePanel is called and apply the saved position AFTER the UpdatePanel call is finished.

I have a IHttpHandler that acts as a source to a jQuery Autocomplete input field. In the constructor of the handler I generate an index that remains fairly static between request (needs to be rebuilt maybe once a day).How can I cache the the index between calls? Debugging indicates that the constructor is called for each request. I've set IsReusable to "false".

When trying to retrieve a shopping cart ID from cookies, I receive the error:
"IsPostNotification = 'context.IsPostNotification' threw an exception of type 'System.PlatformNotSupportedException'"
When I drill down, I see the very specific error:
base {System.NotSupportedException} = {"This operation requires IIS integrated pipeline mode."}
However, the app is using integrated pipeline mode 2.0, whereas the app is built in 3.5
Is this the cause of my problem? and if so, is there a 3.5 integrated pipeline for application pool?

Can someone show me what I need to do to allow cookies:
I have this code after I "authenticate" the user (my own Login Control, & code to authenticate).
If the user checks the "Remember Me" checkbox I am trying to set a cookie with this:
// add 1 month
DateTime expireDate = currentDate.AddMonths(1);
// set the cookie
HttpCookie cookie = new
HttpCookie("LithoUserName");
cookie.Value = customer.UserName;
cookie.Expires = expireDate;
cookie.Domain = "lithoman.com";
Response.Cookies.Add(cookie);
When I go to retrieve the cookie the value is not there. It worked once, then I closed the browser and it disappeared (the cookie was no longer there).I went to GMail & there cookie worked so I am pretty sure the problem is my web.config, but most of the examples for Forms Authentication want you to "authenticate" with Forms Authentication, all I need is for cookies to work. I was able to do this real easy 12 years ago in Class Asp using Visual Interdev, & thought that product sucked compared to Visual Studio 2008 today, but if progress makes a cookie not work then something is wrong. This is not a bank site, or a matter of a life or death, it is just a time saver to sign someone in.

I have the following Page_Load function...
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
XmlDataSource1.Data = GetXmlFromFile(Request.QueryString["file"]);
XmlDataSource1.DataBind();
Repeater1.DataBind();
}
The page in which this Page_Load resides is called by a parent page. Each time this Page_Load gets called the value of "file" in the query string will be different. So each time I will be receiving the XML contents from a different file which are inserted into the XmlDataSource and then bound against by the Repeater. Getting the XML data from the file works great but when I bind against the repeater that only works the first time through Page_Load. Each time after that when this code is executed the same results from the first XML file are displayed in the repeater.
What am I missing here. How can I get the XML data to be bound against the repeater on each page load instead of just the first one?

I need to create a database in SQL2005 on a webserver (manually (not in code)), have registered users upload an image to a webserver not overwriting if the filename already exists but to append if required Weekly, I wish to review the uploaded images in the uploaded folder, create a user & add the image(s) into the database programmatically for all users to be able to search / When the image(s) are in the database & are searched or shown (ex: profile shown with all those details/pics displayed but before displaying the pics on the form to watermark them. However, a profile could have 1 pick or it could have 20. I would like to have for example 4 pics being shown then the user to click next till the end of the recordset. Then do the same for another profile. Uploading the file is fine but not to append if exists then maybe I should have an upload date as the filename (haven't decided)

When I attempt to store the current time of 'DateTime.Now' in a column defined as time in a table within an SQL database, I get an error message that says: Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.DateTime' to 'System.Timespan'.
I have no trouble storing the current date of 'DateTime.Today' in a column defined as date, but this column will not also store time along with the date. The date column has properties that indicate it has a data and system type of date with a Length of 3 and a Numeric Precision of 10. The time column has properties that indicate it has a data and system type of time with a Length of 5, a Numeric Precision of 16 and a scale of 7. Did I define the time column incorrectly for storing the time of day?
