Im displaying rows of information in a Gridview. What I would like to do is select a row and enter some information (a comments system of sorts.) based on the selected item. (Each row has a unique identifier 'episodeno' ). What I was hoping for was do display the gridview in a Tab1 of a TabContainer and on selection of a row item, display a series of data entry elements on Tab2?

Based on their selection, I'd like to add three textboxes for each number and number them appropriately.
I'd like three textboxes for each "number", so for example, the fields would be:
Name1, PIN1, Desc1
Name2, Pin2, Desc2
Name3, Pin3, Desc3
...
So, how do I, at runtime, add these fields to my page?
Secondly, This form, upon submittal, creates a configuration file on my server currently in the format of

With those fields, it's rather easy, as the form has static controls that I'm looking up and sending to my file.
How would I add the dynamic controls to the file as well? Obviously, if they've selected to add 10 fields, I don't want 40 other fields of blank/nothing (since they can choose to add up to fifty). How would I iterate only adding the fields that they've chosen?

If there's a better way to accomplish what I'm attempting I haven't found it yet. That being said, I have create a gridview like the one here,[URL]And with some minor tweaking it working great for all my fields, checkboxes, etc. The issue is my last column is another gridview, and I'd like it to function the same. that is, a dynamic gridview inside of a dynamic gridview. I get that I have to create it initially with null values or it won't show up. I guess what I'm having trouble figuring out is instead of go will null data in the parent gridviews column, do I place my blank child gridview. Do I create and bind the child gridview first, or second. Generally just not sure. Also, as far as storing the data from the child gridview goes, will each one need it's own datatable?

How to validate user entry to cell in GridView and replace the cell value on the other column?
Ex :
i have a gridview with 2 columns (A & B), on both columns i change it to TemplateField (TextBox).
Now on whatever row on column A, i want to validate the user entry when user leave the cell, how to achieve that ?
Based on user entry on column A, i will do some data lookup and get a value returned from the server, how to tell the gridview to replace the value on column B (on the same row) based on the value returned from the server.
I have Gridview that is populated from a data table, there are two additional template columns which are not bound (one checkbox and one textbox). I intend for the users to fill data in the unbound textbox and check the checkbox as needed. (there really is a good reason why the data is constructed in this way)
here is the problem, when the user enteres data into the textbox and hits enter, the gridview appears to postback, which wipes out the checkbox and the data in the textbox.
I tried setting the enable view state of the grid to false, that was supposed to stop postback but no luck. I have the enable view state of the textbox and checkbox set to true and autopostback set to false. but still no luck
so I need to either stop the postback or intercept the enter key in the text box and cancel the action, but that is a bit beyond me at this point

Wasn't quite sure where to post this, seems like the issues could be any number of things, so I'm trying to keep it general... mods, feel free to relocate appropriately.
I am trying to build a page which will load various web user controls dynamically in response to menu selections made by the user, and then allow other interactions inside those controls (such as gridview manipulation and updates). The content page simply has a loginview, an ASP:Menu control, and an ASP:Placeholder. The placeholder is filled by the appropriate user control in response to the menu selection. Selecting a menu item causes a postback and the correct control is loaded as expected.
I realized that using dynamic loading with interactive controls would be a problem with respect to postbacks, so I added a ScriptManager to the content page and enclosed the gridview controls in the web user controls within UpdatePanels, thinking that all postbacks required by the GridView would be handled inside the UpdatePanel and not cause the parent page to refresh (which would then wipe out the dynamically loaded control). However, it does not seem to work this way. Instead, although the control containing the GridView loads correctly and displays data, when I attempt to page, edit, or select any item on the GridView, nothing happens on the first click. If I click on any item inside the control a second time, the entire page refreshes and the control and its contents disappear.
I have removed all the code inside the web user control and placed it directly into the content page to test, and everything functions correctly in that case. I think therefore that I must be missing something with how the user control is working, particularly with respect to the UpdatePanel. Is it just not possible to use an UpdatePanel to confine actions inside a user control that would otherwise cause the entire page to postback, or am I missing something somewhere?

- On page load, I bind it to datasource (in my case a webservice)
- On gridview's rowcreated event, I dynamically add image buttons on the header of the grid for sorting (up/down arrows). On header I have column name and the image. I removed the Column name default sorting link. So user can now only click the image button for sorting.

This works perfectly fine without AJAX. The paging, sorting works fine. Also when I apply AJAX the paging works fine. But the sorting is doing a full post back instead of partial postback.

I have a page that has a treeview and an Iframe. When I click a treeview entry, I display a gridview in the Iframe. I can break in the LineItemDocs code behind, so it is getting to the page, but the LineItemDocs page does not render!The effect that I am going for is to click a treenode, display a page that has some functionality and contains a link. Click the link to display another page that contains additional functionality. Then be able to back-out to where I started. I believe this is not possible using the existing AJAX control toolkit.
In the AnimationExtender samples a pane's text is animated. Could the pane's text be dynamically changed from client or server ? That way dynamic messages could be shown and animated for instance.
Also, is it possible to attach AnimationExtender to a GridView row cell and call a client side JavaScript function ? That JavaScript function actually builds what text to show based on the bound cell data(for instance calculate time elapsed) and then pass that text to animate the cell ?
I am facing certain problems with the data formatting in GridView when the data is bound dynamically to it.
I have a DateTime column and want to only show Date from it and not the time.
Another Decimal type column which accepts decimal upto 4 places, I want to show decimal upto the places defined in the particular value (don't know how to put it in the correct way, but here is an example of what I want).
i.e.
1.0000 should be displayed as 1 after the databound in the gridview.
Similarly,
2.3400 --> 2.34
1.0050 --> 1.005
1.1000 --> 1.1
I have a gridview, where I set the columns based on the columns in a datatable. I have a class that implements ITemplate, and creates a textbox template field. Everything works good, I can display my grid with the correct columns and headers. The probem comes up when I click a Save button, to save the user input. Of course the page postbacks, and I re-create the columns on PageInit. However, all the data the user entered is gone.

Is it possible to use dynamic query filters with a gridview using a stored procedure as a data source? What I'm thinking of is a search page where there are multiple controls to enter in a search string and a radio button for the AND/OR query filters between the various controls. If not, what would be the best way to allow a user to select an AND / OR with a group of different query controls?

I am facing a strange issue while adding some dynamic data in my two divs. First div only contains single grid, while other has grouping grid with collapsible panel. When i add dynamic data in my first div, then after adding data, my div and its scroll automatically refresh, but when i add some data dynamically in my group grids then div content refresh, but its scroll do not refresh. This behavior is producing in Firefox and chrome. It is perfectly working fine in IE. One thing that can help you to solve my issue is that i am implementing continuous scrolling on my grids and adding data dynamically using jquery. Interesting point is that when i click some item and then scroll down, then both div content and scroll refreshes, but when i do not click on any item and simple scroll down to load dynamic data then div content refreshes but not its scroll. I've got a dynamic data application that I would like to use several Ajax Controls on (I.E. combo box with auto complete instead of dropdown for foreign key edit fields). I'm running into problems when I try to edit tables. I replaced the regular script manager with the one defined in the AJAX tool kit on the master page (Site.master). The combobox displays, and the table gets updated when you click update/insert, BUT, when the site tries to redirect back to the list view it barfs up a funny URL that the browser can't resolve. EX: www.example.com/TABLENAME/%2fTABLENAME%2fList.aspx when it should be www.example.com/TABLENAME/List.aspx. It works fine with the standard scriptmanager, but the ToolKit's manager doesn't. I'm using Visual Web Developer 2010 express, language is VB, DynamicData application uses LINQ to SQL.

The yes/no will be represented by a check box and there will be Monday, Thursday and Sunday columns for each occurrence within the month - dynamically worked out. I was planning on using Anonymous Type's as explained here to represent the data. Is this a sound approach? My problem is how to display this using a GridView or DataList control. If the data structure is dynamic, how can I configure the GridView/DataList control to bind to the data?
I am working on a ASP website, coded in VB.net, using Visual Studios 2010. I have a GridView that contains a template column currently. This template column is not the key and cannot be, since it does not exist in my database. (As far as I understand.) In my code behind, I calculate data based on information pulled from multiple columns of a database and currently build a string for my results. The results are stored currently in this empty template column. For example, 1 cell in the template column will currently display the string: "Red, Yellow, Green".
Instead, I would like to display multiple images in one cell to reflect the colors. These images are currently stored in "...Visual Studio 2010WebSites[My Website]images". The string can contain any number of colors, and colors can occur more than once. Is what I want to do possible, and if so how can I go about this? Here is an example of my database, if this provides useful. I do not want to have a column for each color in my GridView, and again a color can occur more than once.
