Forms Data Controls :: Several Data Formatting In Dynamic Databound GridView?

I am facing certain problems with the data formatting in GridView when the data is bound dynamically to it.
I have a DateTime column and want to only show Date from it and not the time.
Another Decimal type column which accepts decimal upto 4 places, I want to show decimal upto the places defined in the particular value (don't know how to put it in the correct way, but here is an example of what I want).
i.e.
1.0000 should be displayed as 1 after the databound in the gridview.
Similarly,
2.3400 --> 2.34
1.0050 --> 1.005
1.1000 --> 1.1

I have a stored procedure (For Eg: sp_GetAvlData) that accepts a number of parameters, 3 of which are TimeFrom, TimeTo (as varchar) and TimeInterval (as int), formulates a Dynamic query and executes itself. So for instance, if I call the proc as follows:

dtAvl is the datatable containing the results of my stored procedure.
The next step for me is to make each of the cells (except the cells in the first column) as a Hyperlink so that when clicked upon a cell, it populates 2 textboxes with the selected Timeslot and Name or ID (ID field is not displayed in Gridview). The textboxes are located on the same page but outside of the Gridview control.
The Challenge that I'm facing out here are:
1) As you can see, the field names being generated are not fixed and I have no control over them.
2) Because the field names are not fixed I'm not sure I can implement this using the Templatefields or BoundFields of Gridview.
Is there any way to achieve the Hyperlinking of these cells within the Gridview?

I am looking for a method to format gridview bound data using javascript.
I know you can have custom formating in Eval using:

But I am looking for a way to perform this task on client side, rather than doing it on the server.
For example if I want to format a date field being bound in a custom way, something like emails date received in gmail. (Only show time if it is today's date [15:30] and only show day and month if it is this year date [14 Jan] and show the full date if it is not this year [10/10/2009].
So, how I use javascript to format a field (ie. custom date format or setting a control visibility)?

im building a simple message messenger web application, i currently have a column in my database dedicated to the status of a message. Its bound to the third column in a datagrid.
After converting the column to a TemplateField and using a Label to fetch the data how do i change the text from the database to a small message, e.g. if the data in the database (as an interger) is 0. how do i change the interger to a string to display "UnRead". Do i need to do this during the databinding call or after the grid has been databound?
I know it would be easier to use a boolean and checkbox control but the interger column represents more values than true or false.

formatting a gridview where I have some numbers that show up with the minus sign on top of the number.Ideally I'd like to set the negative numbers to be red if you know how to do that.I'd also just like more control over the width of the columns.some of my formatting code is below. I have a gridview with dropdown boxes. As soon as the complete gridview is databound, I want to loop through ALL the rows and set the values of the dropdown boxe in a row based on the value of another column in the same row. The gridview is databound, all data shows up. The condition "If ddl.Items(j).Value = searchstring Then" evaluates as true, but somehow the selected item in the dropdownbox is NOT changed and remains "<ignore>"

I'm trying to get numbers converted to the proper look I prefer. But, it doesn't seem to be working.
I'd like the number to read 1,092, but instead it's listing it as 1092.0000000

I have a gridview on my aspx page. I know we can format gridview row in rowdatabound() of gridview. But my problem is bit different.
In my gridview, i have a column customer code, a single code can repeat more than once successively. I want for one customer code, row color should be blue and as soon as code changes colour should be yellow for that code. Similarly when code changes again color should be blue again.
In this way color of my gridview rows should be blue and yellow alternately based on my customer code.I have arranged customer code in order by using sql order by clause.

HUsing C# to develop a web application. Have a gridview to display data from the a sql table.The headers of the gridview is achieve using a table. Need to format the header cells to align with the columns of the gridview.Currently I'm using a trial an error method to set the width of the header to align with the gridview columns. Can I align the Table header to concide with the gird view column width progarmatically?

I've got a Gridview in which I have a column that shows percentages. I use the 0:P2 to format the percentage into readable format. However when the user 'edits' the particular row the percentage sign % still shows up in the textbox. When the user tries to save/update their change I throw an error on the % sign.
Is there a way to show the % only when the row isn't in an editable state?

I'm displaynig plain text in a Gridview and the format is not the one I'm looking for here's what's happening. The data in the database (SQL) is store as sample1
Sample 1:
Please do the following:
1. text here and more text
2. blah blah blah
3. more text, etc
However in the Grid view is displayed like this:

I need to be able to get the value in the "first" row of a Gridview as its getting or right after it is displayed.
I thought this would work but its coming up null.
I'm using the DataBound event to get the value of the control of a selected row...assuming the selected row is the first row which is probably the error of my ways. Any ideas how to get at this value easily?

specially VB code behind pages.I am writing an app with a colleague and I am stuck on something.he app is a holiday booking calendar. I have a gridview that shows the total number of days booked for each month of the year. I have a Gridview and I want to format 2nd column of it to {0:dd-MMM-yy}
If it is not autogeneratedcolumn Gridview I would have used DataFormatString="{0:dd-MMM-yy}"
However, this time it is a autogeneratedcolumn Gridview so I cannot use the above code anymore.
So can I set that column format programmatically ?
I tried
GridView1.Columns(1).
But then there is nothing close to dataformat pops up from intellisense.

I have a Gridview with autogenerated columns since the query structure keeps changing depending the dropdown list.
However for Jan-10 etc column I want to format it to #,##0 etc. I use Dataformatstring when hard code the column but for autogenerated column, what can I do ?
I know one way is in script databound event make it that format whenever header = Jan-10 etc.
What should be the code?

I have parentGridView and childGridView. ChildGridView opens in ParentGridView cell. But it expands the cell and makes all the parents cells out of formatting look and feel.1 ) How can i use colspan property to expand the childGirdView? 2) i am using find control in codebehind, i dont want to disturb that hierarchy as well
