I am using the timer inside UpdatePanel to check the time every second and enter it to a label control.
But I must ask, How this is going to effect performance? Bandwidth of the site?
I am developing a site similar to forums. I allow users to Post articles and upload files regarding the articles. I am not storing the Attachments contents in DB instead i store only the path of the attachment file and store the actual file in physical folder in the Project directory. WHat i want to knw is if the size of the physical folder increase will it affect the performance of my application.
View 6 RepliesI have a dataset that comprises of multiple tables (about 20) linked together with constraints to reflect the relational database. My question(s):
1) Will having multiple tables affect performance? I'm asking this as there are often times I would not need to get data for all the tables, but only for specific tables.
2) If it does affect performance, would breaking up the tables into their own datasets be the best solution. It seems to me that by doing that, you would lose the ability to apply constraints among tables and tables that might exist in multiple datasets will be subjected to replication.
I would like to have everything in one dataset as I get a view of the related tables and their relationships and also because the Fill method allow me to fill tables, maintaining the hierarchy of the data, but performance is still a key factor.

The temp folder size is increased every month as we manually add images.
Except the Temp folder every page is requested from the browser...
We dont use the Temp folder for any other purpose other than archive.
Does this affect the performance of the web application i.e. constant size increase?
how different would it be if we moved the temp to some other location out of the Root?
Would adding "X-UA-Compatible: IE=EmulateIE7" as an http header to trigger IE9 to render in compatibility mode negatively affect performance on the server? I made the change today, adding it, but now some areas of our site are behaving sluggishly, though we did have a large number of changes come in overnight. I know that we can't single out this as the problem, but my boss seems to think it is.
View 3 RepliesMy ASP.NET form contains a collection of dynamically-created radiobuttons that are created and configured in the Page_Load event handler.
Normally, I process postback data in the Page_Load handler, using the condition:
if (IsPostBack)
However, since the controls that I need to access are created IN the Page_Load handler, the postback data from the previous rendering of the page is lost. To better illustrate the problem, here is an outline of the events as they occur:
1-Page_Load is invoked for the first time
2-An unknown number of radiobuttons are created dynamically
3-The radiobuttons are configured, based on information present on the server
4-The radiobuttons are added to the page's content
5-The user selects an option, and clicks the submit button
6-The Page_Load handler is invoked for the second time
7-The radio-buttons are added dynamically, exactly as before
8-The radio-button that the user checked is seemingly non-existant for processing
It seems like I need to be processing different parts of this in different event handlers. Is there an event that occurs after postback, but while the original radiobuttons are still accessible?
I am new to asp.net, so this might be a basic question. But I am struggling on this for more time... I have loaded a COM object in Server script using code behind (C#) and that COM object will trigger events in some random interval. I need to update the client page whenever I receive an event from the COM object from server side (code behind).My question is, Is there a way to make the client page do postback from the code behind(C#)? ie., The client page needs to be updated whenever an event occurs in the server. Is that possible? The com event does not trigger a postback since it only occurs in the server and not in the client.

I have a button which has a click event but its not firing on the first click. I suspect its something to do with that i am in dropdown box control so when i click the Button the event for the dropdown box occurs (textChanged) but it forgets about the click event
Of course if i click it a second time it works.
Or if i click somewhere else first so that the event TextChange occurs and then click the Button the first time it executes..
Is this normal and what are more workarounds if any?
basically the TextChange event must fire but the button click event must fire as well.
All the events i am talking about are ASP.NET events.

I have a relatively simple page that will do most of its operations on the client side using Javascript or JQuery. However, initially I do need to retrieve some data from the DB server based on QueryString parameters.
I plan on passing this data in the form of a JSON string to the script by an old-fashioned ASP manner ( var severData = <%=MyPublicData %>) block where MyPublicData is defined in CodeBehind as:
Public string MyPublicData;
The question is, which event in the ASP.NET page lifecycle is the best for this? Page_Init ? Page_Load? Also, is it worth the effort to do this in ASP.NET MVC. I did look at this possiblity but it seemed a little too much for a simple page like this where I do more 90% of the work on the client.
i am using htmleditor and each time the page that contains it is visited a big memory spike of occurs.

I am creating a service oriented application where trying to have everything using services....however there is something I am not sure of , I am having a page that calls the database at the page load...so what would be better and faster?? to call database in pageload , or to call wcf service from javascript during javascript load ??btw , I am using a repeater in the page , but I have created somekind of an engine to create the suitable html so...I'll be creating the repeaters html using the wcf and resend it back to the page If I am using a wcf service at the start.

If I give page size is 100 for gridview then the paze size showing 800kb in firebug net panel and it is taking 20-30 seconds to load webpage. If I give page size is 10 for gridview then the paze size showing 160kb in firebug net panel and it is taking 5-6 seconds to load webpage. If I give page size is 5for gridview then the paze size showing 130kb in firebug net panel and it is taking less than 6 seconds to load webpage. I noticed that due to heavy paze size the performance decreasing but as per my requirent the paze size should be 100 or above and the page should be load less than 2 seconds.
Note: I am using Ajax Update panels
I have a web page with an UpdatePanel containing two GridViews and related controls. There is a Save button on the page outside the UpdatePanel. One of the event handlers for a control inside the UpdatePanel calls a method DisplaySaveButton, which is supposed to make the Save button visible or not depending on a parameter. Although DisplaySaveButton is called & executed correctly, it does not effect the visibility of the Save button.
If I remove the UpdatePanel from the form, leaving all its content behind, everything works perfectly.
how do I affect the state of a control outside the UpdatePanel?

I have the following gridview inside an updatepanel that makes the bind from a datatable:

What I intend to do and I'm not getting is the following: When i edit a textbox in a row with a new value, like Desconto textbox, i want that when that textbox looses the focus, to refresh the gridview with new values that result from changes in the value of the textbox. It's a new bind as i know, the problem is how to find the correct way to trigger the textbox textchanged event, at the moment nothing is happening. I created the Desconto_TextChanged event but when compiling, i receive a compilation error:

I am using UrlRewritting in my project. all functionality is working proper but I cant use the ASP.NET Ajax like updatePanel etc. the problem is ScriptResource.axd file is missing (404 Error). I used lot of ASP.net Ajax control before using UrlRewritting so I cant change the whole code.....

i have a webform which has got required field validators. when the user doesnt enter values and clicks submit button it should not cause postback. i have set CausesValidation="True" on the submit button.hen the user clicks submit button without entering values, validation occurs( red * marks are shown) but the postback also occurs.

I have had this problem for a long time now and have just dealt with it but i am at the point finally that i need a solution or i need to look at other options besides visual studio for web development. it is way too time consuming now to have to worry about changing one thing and then having to search all other pages to be sure they are still fine. So this is what i have: visual studio 2008 pro sp1 asp.net web application targeting .net framework 3.5
a master page with several tables. i have broken out into several tables because it seemed to help the issue. the tables are all stacked on top of each other, no special positioning. the tables seem to be fine for the most part but if i make changes to the table which contains the content placeholder, i will find other pages have formatting incorrect, such as backcolor of text in different areas changed, bulleted lists are overlapping. when navigating to some pages, one of the tables i have at the top that is not related to the table with the content placeholdder, will not show the background picture, and it will show either different font size of the menu that is in the table with the content placeholder, or bold font on other buttons text, such as link button, on the master page.
so they seem to affect each other. changes on the master page affect the other pages and when displaying the other pages, whether in a browser in the IDE, parts of the master page will be affected. this is only on certain pages and they are never consistent. they will stay consistent once changed, but each time i make a change to the master page, the pages which are affected are not consistent. However, it used to be a issue that was always consistent with certain pages i kept in their own folder. i had taken the time once to go through them and make fixes and after that i didn't really have any more issues. but now they are being affected again as well as others.
i had started using link buttons instead of hyperlinks because it seemed to not affect the other pages when formatting them. for instance i would highlight the backcolor of a link with yellow, and other pages text in random places would show with the same yellow backcolor. it does not seem to matter what any of the affected text is in whether in p or div, it doesn't seem to follow a pattern other than sometimes it does seem to favor text that is bold. i think in some ways it has to do with new content pages i add to the site. those seem to be the ones that are usually affected for sure. but there are always others and i never know for sure which ones they will be.
I'm here again to share a problem that I'm fighting against for days. I'm developing an eCommerce Cart.
Within it, I have a repeater, inside of ITEMTEMPLATE I put one TextBox for product quantities and one Button, for update the quantity inserted on that textbox.
When the customer clicks over the Button, it fires a function that gets the content of the TextBox and do an update on my Database.
It works perfetly when it is done with the mouse click. But I need to fires the update function WHITHOUT the manually click event. When the customer just put the mouse out of the TextBox (onblur event), I want to fires that function.

Page A loads very fast; Page B loads very slowly and does some CPU-intensive things on the web server. I noticed that if someone is loading Page B, then Page A also loads slowly - for ALL users. What is the standard practice for making sure this doesn't happen? If multiple users are loading Page B at the same time then Page A is ridiculously slow. Is there an IIS setting, web.config setting, or hardware configuration I could use to make sure that the fast-loading pages aren't bogged down by other pages that need more time to load?
