AJAX :: Is It Possible To Avoid Page Reload With Anchor Tag

In a page I use prettyPhoto (a lightbox clone) that open a modal window showing an image when I click on a link with rel=prettyphoto. So I have:
<a href="fullresimage.png" rel="prettyPhoto">click here</a>
everytime I click on the link a postback is fired (IsPostBack = false). Can I avoid this? I have a counter on the page and everytime a pic is showed this is recognize as a full page load (i.e. increment counter) as IsPostBack = false!

I am trying to render a simple hyperlink that links to a named anchor within the page, for example:
<a href="#namedAnchor">scroll to down</a>
<a name="namedAnchor">down</a>
The problem is that when I use an ASP.NET control like asp:HyperLink or HtmlAnchor, the href="#namedAnchor" is rendered as href="controls/#namedAnchor" (where controls is the subdirectory where the user control containing the anchor is). Here is the code for the control, using two types of anchor controls, which both have the same problem:

I am using the HtmlAnchor or HyperLink class because I want to make changes to other attributes in the code behind. I do not want to introduce a custom web control for this requirement, as the requirement I'm pursuing is not that important enough to justify abandoning the traditional ASP.NET link controls. It seems like I should be able to use the ASP.NET link controls to generate the desired link.

I have a TabControl (Ajax Control Toolkit 1.0.10618.0) with 6 Tab Pages. On 1 Tab Page I have several internal anchors. I want to use URLs ike [URL]. This link opens Document ID 123 but it does not jump to Link2, probably because Link2 is on the 4th Tab page so it's not displayed initially. All these anchors only appear on the 4th tab but I could not set the 4th tab as general default tab because the 1st tab should be the default tab. When I manually open 4th and call the URL again then it's working fine. So I thought to inspect the Request.URL for '#Link' and , if found, switch to Tab4 automatically, but '#Link' does not appear anywhere in Request.URL.Is there a way to jump to an anchor on a currently not-opened tab?

Like normal chat application i have two textboxes one to get text from user and one to display that text. i am using wcf service to provide communication with one user with other. I want to reload only the textbox that contain the entered text by the user not the other controls. i have timer and meta tag but nothing worked.

On my website I have a lot of textboxes and radiobuttons. The user fills in his data and selections and then the information is written in a file by xml serialization. This all works fine. Now the requestor want the possibility to read the xml file and show the data on the page again for editting purposes. To read the file I use the Ajax AsyncFileUpload control. When it is finished uploading it fires the following event:

The ReadData sub is reading the data from the file and placing it in the controls. But then nothing happens. Th page is not reloading itself to show the data.

I am reading a tutorial article on this site about Partial Rendering using ScriptManager.EnablePartialRendering - [URL] The article uses button_click to demonstrate Partial Rendering without full page reload. I copy exactly the same codes but everytime I click the button the page refreshes.
I have examined after the page is loaded - ScriptManager1.EnablePartialRendering = true ScriptManager1.SupportsPartialRendering = true I am using vs2005 .NET 2.0 and AJAX extension 1.0 (same version as used in the article)

I know practically nothing about AJAX, but fully intended to utilize it in the future. Right now though I am noticing a behavior that may require that I implement it sooner then I planned.
I have been working on a fairily sophesticated web form that is made up of tables, dropdown lists, map buttons, and labels. As various controls are selected, specific tables are enabled or dropdowns/labels populated with information. All of this is working great, but when I put it all on a server and accessed it from a remote location, I noticed that every single action caused the entire page to reload.
From what I have read, it looks like AJAX and the UpdatePanel control will allow me to only refresh those areas that should be refreshed. Before I look further into implementing this, is this the only way to go? From what I have read on some other blogs, the UpdatePanel has some high performance costs.

I have an AsyncFileUpload with an image control to show a preview of the pic that is uploaded. Everything works fine, however on the postback from the asynchFileUpload the page jumps to the top of the page and then after a second or two it goes down to the proper scroll position. What can I do to avoid having the page jump to the top and then back down again on the postback ?

I am using asp treeview with checkbox for the leafnode. And when that check box is checked controls are creating dynamically in aspx.cs page.
When check box is checked the entire page is getting refreshed, How can I avoid that.

From one of my webpage, I am opening up another form as ModalDialog, and on this form, I have a Grid, Treeview and some other controls.

I have some code on click of Treeview Node, I fill out other data in Grid on click of Treeview Node.
Now the problem is when page posts back ( on click of Treeview Node ) , page flickers once during filling up data in Grid.
Basically whenever page.ispostback is true, page flickers, Now I want to avoid this.
I have to keep "SmartNavigation="false"" on this page because of some of the Treeview Problems.
Specifically on Node click of Treeview and on Update button press.

This upload is working. But why the page is getting refreshed? this is not partial post back and instead it 's full post back. i have read the articles for the fileuplaod with issue inside the update panel. is there any way to achieve this asynchronous upload on button click?
I don't want to use the Ajaxtoolkit Asyncupload because that will upload (Ref : [URL] ....] the moment when we seelct the file itself which i don't want to do that. i need to do on the button click event.

I have three cascading dropdowns on my web page and they work fine. The issue I am facing is that there are other controls on the page which cause a postback and with each postback the cascading drop downs are being re-populated (service methods are called) which is becoming a performnace issue.

I am using Web Forms Routing in ASP.NET 4 and I am trying to route to a specific location on a page. On that page I have an element like <div id="3"> and I'd like to jump to this anchor from another page. For this purpose I have defined a Route in global.asax:
RouteTable.Routes.MapPageRoute("MyRoute", "Path/SubPath/{PageAnchor}",
"~/MyPage.aspx", true, new RouteValueDictionary { { "PageAnchor", null } });
The HyperLink to link to that page and the anchor "3" is defined this way in markup:
