AJAX :: ScriptManager.EnablePartialRendering - Demonstrate Partial Rendering Without Full Page Reload
Feb 27, 2010
I am reading a tutorial article on this site about Partial Rendering using ScriptManager.EnablePartialRendering - [URL] The article uses button_click to demonstrate Partial Rendering without full page reload. I copy exactly the same codes but everytime I click the button the page refreshes.
I have examined after the page is loaded - ScriptManager1.EnablePartialRendering = true ScriptManager1.SupportsPartialRendering = true I am using vs2005 .NET 2.0 and AJAX extension 1.0 (same version as used in the article)
I am using a table and within the table i have gridview and textbox controls. On the rowcommand i am populating the data in text boxes. On top of the table i am using updatepanel for partial page rendering. When i select a row from gridview the text boxes are not populating, the table disappears.Below is the code
I have to create facebook style wall in my project. So far I assume that I will get X(the number that needs to be shown be default) number of wall posts from database, bind them to some control like Repeater and add update panel in each row in repeater so that only the portion of page only related to that post is updated once any new comment is added in that post.
Now, since I am new to AJAX so cant figure out how to display the "older post" link functionality there. As we have link at the bottom of facebook wall which once clicked appends the certain number of older posts at the end of the wall.
Similarly, once a new post is added by someone, it gets added at the top of the wall, how can I acheive that so tha only the limited portion at the top of the wall gets refersed and updated instead of whole page post back.
I have a page that uses ajax scripmanager > progressupdate so I can display the user a message of "Loading, wait..". Now, my question is the following. I have the EnablePartialRendering set to true, mainly because if I set it to false my panel with the loading stuff doesn't display. When is set to true, then if I want to set the text and visibility on a row that is normally set to visible=false, it just doesn't happen. My row doesn't show. My "Loading" message will only display if a stored procedure exist, if it doesn't I just need to let the user know.
I am creating one of my first Asp.Net tools and I ran in to a small bump. Currently I am doing a postback on a buttonclick which does some server-side calculations. The server-side code then uses those calculations to alter the contents of a div. In IE and Firefox when a postback happens, the div updates as expected. However, in chrome all postbacks do a complete refresh of the entire page. What is causing this and is there a way around this behavior?
Update: ClientSide I have the following.. <asp:Button ID="Button2" Style="float: right" runat="server" OnClick="S_ButtonClick" Text="Calculate" />
It is possible that when this postback(if I understand this correctly) happens, that it is still fully reloading in firefox and ie, but it doesn't show it. This effectively masks the postback. However, when I test in chrome, any postback completely blanks the page before reloading the state. Hopefully this clears up exactly what I am asking. Also, my C#/.Net usage might be slightly flawed and I am willing to take comments on such.
I have a form, with an update panel and the EnablePartialRendering set to true on the page. Here's my problem, the page size with every AsyncPostBack gets larger, even if my code makes no changes to the markup. It also, never stops... it just keeps growing about 3-4K with every AsyncPostBack. If EnablePartialRendering is set to false, full postbacks do not cause the page size to grow like that. It's like it's sending resources and then never getting rid of them out of the page even though they're not being used because an updated copy has come down.
1.) Is it supposed to work like that?
2.) If it's not, what can I do to not have 4K added to the page size everytime an AsyncPostBack occurs (not again, full PostBacks do not have that same behavior).
3.) This behavior happens whether I compress the ViewState or not (I am using ViewState compression). However, the ViewState size is NOT growing... it's the size of the content in the page that is (I'm monitoring the ViewState size/the Page Size closely).
partial rendering using update panel .I was wondering when a control is clicked in an update panel does the entire page is sent as an asynchronous call or the just the content of the update panel , the server process the entire page or just the update panel content that is being changed.
What is the best way to build a progress page? In short, I want a user to complete a series of "setup steps" and hit a "Start" button. I would like them to be immediately redirected to a "Progress" page that will show them the progress of each step. In my case these would be: Shutdown device, copy file, Start device.
My approach so far is to build a Progress View page and use partial views. Here is what I have so far. I would like the Progress page to show up right away even if the ShutdownStatus View has not finished rendering. At some point, I plan on including a progress bar but right now I'm just curious as to how I can show the Progress page immediately then show each partial View as it completes.
What is the cleanest way to display a web page inside another web page. Currently I am using an I-Frame. But are there any current controls in ASP.NET to do this efficiently?
i've created a upload form for 1 image. after the image is stored on the filesystem i want to refresh the partial view (which then should display the image).
After uploading a image, jQuery runs the Url.Action but doesn't render the partial view which gets returned from the Action "WebAuftragImageRefresh"...
Am using UpdatePanel on a .aspx page with a User Control. This user control is AJAX enabled and is using UpdatePanel and ScriptManager on the aspx side. When I have EnablePartialRendering set to true i.e. <asp:ScriptManager runat="server" id="someId" EnablePartialRendering="true" >
and use ScriptManager.RegisterClientScript to write JSON from server side (C# code) - it is not written to the browser i.e. it shows empty square brackets when I view source in Browser i.e. var SomeVar = [] As soon as I change EnablePartialRendering ="false" and refresh the page JSON starting showing up in the browser i.e. var SomeVar = [{"id","1"}{"id",2}]
I have a user control with both an UpdatePanel and a ScriptManager.
Some pages in the system have a ScriptManager of their own, and need to include the UserControl.
This throws the "You can only have 1 ScriptManager" exception.
If I remove UserControl's ScriptManager, I'll get 'UpdatePanel1 requires a Script Manager" exception.
I've tried to modify the UserControl to dynamically include it's own script manager if none exists. But all the methods I've used before involve adding a delegate to Page.OnInit-- which won't work, since the UserControl Init fires first.
Because the system designers here like making my life difficult, I can't create a MasterPage, or a BasePage for the system in inherit off of. I'd be stuck going to each page an adding a ScriptManager before the UserControl on each of them. Is there any way of, in the UserControl, detecting if the page has a ScriptManager, and if not, adding it dynamically in a way that makes the UpdatePanel happy?
I have been using gridveiw to show uploaded files after that I have already put the new column to download these files. If I will put EnableEventValidation="true" and EnablePartialRendering="true"(ToolkitScriptManager), it is didn't work and error messages apperar like this:

If I will put "false", it is okay, I can download but updatepanel is didn't work. So my page refreshed when I click any events.
Like normal chat application i have two textboxes one to get text from user and one to display that text. i am using wcf service to provide communication with one user with other. I want to reload only the textbox that contain the entered text by the user not the other controls. i have timer and meta tag but nothing worked.
I am trying to render a partial view and i can not get it to work. Probably i am missing something trivial, because what i am trying to do is really simple.
I have two controllers: NewsController and CommentController. In the "Details" view of the NewsController i'd like to render the partial view "List" of CommentController. So in Details.aspx i have this line:[Code]....
However, this line throws an excpetion:
"The controller for path '/News/Details/e4243192-55ea-4cfb-b8d3-9714cca4ff08' was not found or does not implement IController."
I have a table, there is a column for "edit links" - i'd like to render a partial view under the table via JQuery - but i think i'm missing a step:
Heres the html:[Code]....
I hardcode the link and make it call the "editCloset" js function, hopefully thatll call my Controller, thatll build the ViewModel, and return the View that uses it - so it can be rendered in the PartialView contained in div id="Slots"Right now - im not able to get into the controller, so i missing something i think Heres the controller:
Just to get it work, I got a controller action that make use of a switch statement to decide which partial view to render, based on one of the members of the model passed in. (Written by someone else for what it matter...I'm just cleaning up)
The viewmodel is overcomplicated, but that's not my decision right now and just have to live with it.
All partial's get rendered passing the same viewmodel, just a different partial get called.
I have an ASP.NET application which calls aspx-pages in other ASP.NET applications (all on the same server and the same solution). This aspx-pages should be shown in a (fixed) region on the main-site in that way that that only the embedded pages is renewed, during user interactions there. Is an IFRAME the only way to achieve this goal, or can I use for example theAJAX update-panel or are there further possibilities / techniques?
I have a asp.net panel that is initially hidden and is shown when a button is clicked. There is javascript inside that panel and it doesn't execute after the panel is set to be visible. I can see that javascript function gets outputted on page but it is not called. What can I do to make it so that function gets called? Here is an example:
everytime I click on the link a postback is fired (IsPostBack = false). Can I avoid this? I have a counter on the page and everytime a pic is showed this is recognize as a full page load (i.e. increment counter) as IsPostBack = false!
