AJAX :: Partial Panel Navigate Back?
Jan 4, 2010
our application, we use master page and inside master page we have aspx that loads certain controls in Update Panels via ajax calls. Depending on the left menu link clicked (which is also inside update panel), the content in another update panel would be loaded with appropriate user controls. Our issue is when the user cliecks on "Cancel" button in user control that is been loaded by Ajax call, we need to traverse back to the previous control or page.

Basic concept of AJAX is to cause Partial post back of the Page. If we use AJAX, Page Load occurs, than what is the difference between normal Pages' Page_Load event (without ajax) and Page load event of a Page with ajax.

im using a init function after partial postback again the init function is not calling.
<asp:ScriptManager runat="server" ID="MainSM" EnablePartialRendering="true">
<Scripts>
<asp:ScriptReference Path="~/JS/menu.js" />
</Scripts>
</asp:ScriptManager>
<script type="text/javascript">
menu.init("class");
</script>
this script works fine but after partial postback again this init function is not working. So i searched in google i found some articles regarding this [URL]
<script type="text/javascript">
function pageLoad() {
// Initialization code here, meant to run once.
</script>
this works fine when it was postback,but without postback this init function is not working

watch here:
- Create a gridview with AllowPaging and AllowSorting = true
- On page load, I bind it to datasource (in my case a webservice)
- On gridview's rowcreated event, I dynamically add image buttons on the header of the grid for sorting (up/down arrows). On header I have column name and the image. I removed the Column name default sorting link. So user can now only click the image button for sorting.
- Call sorting method
This works perfectly fine without AJAX. The paging, sorting works fine. Also when I apply AJAX the paging works fine. But the sorting is doing a full post back instead of partial postback.
I have my gridview within UpdatePanel and Triggeres is set on gridview sill it doesn't work.

i have one label out of update panel and one button inside update panel. in button click event i update the label text. when i run the code and click on button then partial postback occur and button click event fire but label value is not change. if i put the label too in the update panel then label value change at the time of button click. i do not understand why label value is not getting updated. suppose if i want that label should stay out of update panel and label value should change at the time of partial postback then how to write the code. i dont want put the label in any update panel.

I have a GridView that I load with a show button that drills into the details. I want to add a button that allows me to navigate back, but I'm not having much luck. I don't want to response.redirect("MyPage.aspx") because I don't want to have to reload the GridView.
I thought I code just add some java script to it:
Code:
ibtnBack.Attributes.Add("onclick", "javascript:history.go(-1);")
But that doesn't seem to work for some reason.

I have a GridView control inside one Update Panel and a detail section inside another Update Panel. Initially, the detail section is hidden and when a GridView row is selected, the Detail panel becomes visible. Everything works fine except that if the GridView contains more rows and covers most of the user's screen, screen doesn't shits to the start of Detail section.I can use anchor but was just wondering if there is any other way of achieving this. Also the Detail section has multiple nested Update Panels and if I use anchor, then any of the child Update Panel's update will move the screen to the beginning of the detail Section.

I am facing a critical condition wherein I have a web page and a User control within it.I need to set the value of two labels in the user control using values collected on the server side.However whatever I do on the server side or client side I do see on the webpage although I can see in the code that it is being set.So Now I am just sending the value from the server side and setting it on the client side.I am sending from server side using,
if(rowcnt > 0 && rowcnt1 > 0 && (selectedh != string.Empty))
ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this.updMainTable, typeof(string), "test1", "showRehabMain('"+val+"')", true);

I know everyone has heard this a million times, but I need help with the back button and the AJAX update panel.I essentially have a form, that has 5 fields:Vehicle Make (In update panel #1) Model (In update panel #1) Trim (In update panel #1) Ownership Status Zip Vehicle model gets populated depending on what you put in make, same with trim. Now once the user hits next, I do a response.redirect. When I hit the back button, the possible values, and the current index is wiped for Vehicle Make, Model, Trim. I cannot
figure out a way around this.I have read about that history management feature, but seems uselesss since I need to somehow update the make, model, and trim possible values. Isn't there any way for me to get these values in the viewstate before I post the page?

I have a page that is mostly dynamically built in the page load of my VB.net code behind page.
The issue is that I made a change to the page and added a button that redirects to a secondary page. When the button is clicked there is a very noticeable lag until the button click event fires because the page is being rebuilt every time.
I had not wrapped the code in the load event in the If not ispostback.... because I have dynamic controls that the user interacts with and I need the page to be rebuilt when the user clicks them.
The dynamic controls are clickable table cells. I did some looking and I found that the RegisterPostBackControl. I thought this would be perfect but, it does not although I maybe using it incorrectly.
Here is the code flow.

I have a page that the users get redirected to. On page load this page runs a bunch of code behind that and loads table. The processing could take a few seconds to minutes depending on how big a report is run. Is there any way to completely render the page before automaticly kicking off the code? I am trying to stay away from forcing the user to click on another button.

I am not sure what the event is called but I'm trying to get it so if your not logged in you can't manually type the page name in the bar at the top. I need to find a way so it will always redirect you to the login page if you haven't signed in.
Also the same goes for sessions, at the moment when my session time runs out my website fails as there is alot linked to sessions from my database, how do I get it so when a session expires upon trying to navigate inside the website you are passed back to the login page?

Looking for the best technique on handling or at least some documentation showing an example.
Starting Page
Gridview control withing an update panel (also various controls used for filtering NOT IN UPDATE PANEL)
Databinding does not happen during page load.
Databinding is initiated when update panel trigger (asp:Button object) is clicked
Hyperlink column is added to returned records
Hyperlink posts to a separate page for detail for record which the hyperlink was clicked.
Second Page
While navigating via the browser back button to previous page (which contained the update panel and gridview) only the (various controls used for filtering) have retained state. The gridview is not shown (which is how the page loads initially when starting) How can I retain the state of the Gridview and add a step in the browser history all together?

I am building a system for a school project. I currently have several Update Panels on the page that have many different controls on them. I also have a single Label control that i use to display messages to the user. I would like to have this label within an update panel also but there are literally hundreds of triggers that would require it to be updated and i dont want to type an absurd number of triggers for this one control.Is there a way for me to have this one panel update regardless of what happens?

Hi, I have a partial view (using MVC2 .net) inside a view which is a form. the partial view has a textbox and is strongly typed.
The problem is I can't get the textbox data from the partial view when I post back, for some reason I can get all the view data inputs on the controller but the partial view, doesn't return the textbox data.
