AJAX :: Passing Property Values From Server To Client In A User Control ?
Aug 13, 2010
I have a user control which has some properties configured on it. I need to access (actually, only read) the values of those properties on the client. I have done it like this.
Code behind:
[Code]....
ASPX:
[Code]....
That works but, at the back of my mind, I'm sure I've seen a neater way of doing it, although I suspect that may have been on an Extender not a User Control. Pointers on that welcome.
Also, related to that, the User Control itself has an Id which becomes part of the name of all visual objects included within it. However, the User Control is not a DOM element in its own right (because it has no visible rendering) which [I think] means that I have to attach properties to one of the visible elements within it, and not to the control itself?
I wanted to know if we can pass values from Parent page (in this case from Default.aspx page) to the user control and maintain those values on subsequent "Add/Load" of user control.
So in short, if I click the "Add" button it loads my "webusercontrol" and also I am able to pass my default.aspx dropdownlist value to this dynamically loaded user control and assign it to a "Label or Textbox" which resides in my "webusercontrol", now the problem is that the value doesn't persists! What I meant is , when I click "Add" button again the "webusercontrol" gets loaded again perfectly but now all my "Label's" in webusercontrol has the new selected value from the default.aspx dropdownlist.
So say for instance I have a Dropdownlist in Default.aspx page with Values "Apple, BlackBerry, Nokia" and initial value to be passed is "Apple", I click the "Add" button, now my "Label" inside webusercontrol has the value "Apple", perfect! Next when I click "Add" button again and select a different value to be passed this time say "BlackBerry" now I have 2 webusercontrol loaded on the page, so that means I have 2 "Labels" with different ID's, but now my first Label initially had the value "Apple" because that's what I had passed and now when I passed the value "Blackberry" both the labels of my webusercontrol has the value "BlackBerry" instead of one being "Apple" and another "BlackBerry"
Is there a way to resolve this issue? may be Dictionary List?
In my project, I need to create a user control to handle the sorting and pagination of all the grids in the application. The grid however will be different in different pages with different formatting.
I am able to do this by exposing a property from user control which takes gridview as the input.
then in page load, i bind this grid, and assign the sorting and paging event handlers to this gridview variable.
This way I am able to do the sorting and paging, but the problem is I have to bind the grid in all the post backs, and then in the sorting and paging events.
So when a user sorts, I have to bind the grid twice, once in page_load and then in sort event of user control.
I can store the first set of records in viewstate and bind that in page load, but is there any other way, so that i dont need to bind the grid in all post backs but only inside of not postback.
I am exposing state_v value by using property in aspx.vb page..How can I create an instace of the page in User control to access this property...mypage.aspx
I have a very simple user control with 5 radio buttons on it, and 3 properties (ID, RatingSetID, and Rating). On the initial load of the page they are on, the code acquires data and places the data into the 3 properties. However, when the submit button is clicked the page reloads and the 3 properties get reset to 0, they are in the !IsPostBack as well.
I have a page that contains a few user controls which all use an id in a querystring. I want to change this so that the page can send the id to the user control and can call a function on the user control.
Also is it possible for the user control to get the id from the page or a control on the page as its parent?
here i have a problem,i need to pass the value of one tab to another for tab. For example if i selected a row in the DataGrid based on the DataKeyField of that row i have to display the details in the second tab panel. i tried it but getting a error.
I'm constructing a User Control that will have one Property called "ContractIdx". Here's how I've constructed this Property:
public int ContractIdx { get { return Convert.ToInt32(this.Attributes["ContractIdx"]); } set { this.Attributes["ContractIdx"] = value.ToString(); } }
I'm initially loading the User Control by passing a parameter to it and setting ContractIdx accordingly. That all works fine.
Upon Postback though I'm loading the User Control without any parameters and then setting its ID property to what it was before the Postback. My understanding was that if I did this then ViewState would properly restore everything. Yet apparently this is not the case with the "ContractIdx" attribute.
Where am I mistaken in my understanding? How should I change things to get this mechanism to work?
I need a way to create unique values for a property in my custom server control..
In this case I will have the poroperty called "Name" and I neeed the value of Name to be unique for each "instance" of the control...
So for instance if I have a page with more then one instance of the control, I dont want the value of the Name property for these instances to be allowed to be the same..
...to put it kind of simple, if I dont remember this incorrect, I want it to be sort of like the ID property..but with another name then ID.
I have a user control which contains a CustomValidator which is used according to whether a RadioButton is checked or not (there are several RadioButtons, I'm only showing the relevant one)
There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)
<script type="text/javascript"> function ValidateDateFields_Client(source, args) [code]...
There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.
[code]... Do i need to add something in to scope it? What's the best way to achieve this? If I disable the loading of the second control everything works fine.
I have a user control that contains a reportviewer control.And I want to send an array of reportparameter to my user control.But I can't figure out how to do.I'm getting "Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ".My param_reportParam variable is null in usercontrol.My user control's parameter is like that ;
[Browsable(false)]public ReportParameter[] param_reportParam{ get { return _param_reportParam; } set { _param_reportParam = value; }}private ReportParameter[] _param_reportParam;
And a simple page that uses user control to show server reports is like that ;
ReportParameter[] parameters = new ReportParameter[4];//parameter number can be different parameters[0] = new ReportParameter("imza", imzalayacaklar); parameters[1] = new ReportParameter("Sayi_Son_Eki", "984"); parameters[2] = new ReportParameter("PersonelTip", "2"); parameters[3] = new ReportParameter("parafli", "1"); wuc_rapor_genel1.param_reportParam = parameters;//this is my usercontrol
I have a web page with several databound (via their property's) user controls in a multiview in a formview.
I decided to try Ajax (Adding ScriptManager, updatepanel etc).
All works fine except for the user controls.
The controls I use to contain the usercontrol property values ((invisible) Textboxes or Hidden fields) lose their value when i change from ond multiview panel to another. (In other words: usercontrols on invisible multiview panels lose their property value's). (When I change a multiviewpanel all the property fields turn emty, when i hit the update button of the formview afterwards the emty values are propagated to the database. (resulting in loss of data)) Textbox seems to hold its value, hiddenfield loses its value (when changing from one multiview panel to another).
This seems to be a coplication of the multiview in combination with ajax.
I have a user control with a WebDateTimeEdit server control on it (essentially a TextBox). I'd like to be able to set some of the server control's properties by way of the user control's markup or programatically. for example I have this defined on my user control:
[code]....
this blows up because WebDateTimeEdit1 is null.
is there any way I can make this happen? also can do I do this
myControl2 .Font.Size = FontUnit.Point(8);
where the Font property is read only on the server control?
The built in Asp.Net Controls (label, Textbox, etc.) all have a CssClass property that can be set, what do I need to do to implement that for a Web User Control?
I know how to add a property and pass thru the get & set to the corresponding Asp.Net control (example if I have a label I know how to create a LabelCssClass property that provides a get & set, but the control itself how do I set a CssClass or ClassName property.
I have a User Control (ascx) and a property which a want to display in my categories tab in Visual Studio in the category named "Styles".
[Code]....
And here is the problem: Actually I do not need a get, because I only have to set the property (write only property). But when I omit the get, the property is displayed in the "Misc" category in the categories tab in Visual Studio. Only when I code the get as well, then the property is displayed correctly in the "Styles" category in the categories tab in Visual Studio.
Does anybody know why? How can I display the category correctly only with set?
I've got a web site that has a master page and that master page (mpMaster that has a user control ucControl1) which has a sub user control (ucControl2), this user control has a property which accepts a value. Now, I have a page that uses the master page and on this page I have another user control (ucPageControl), I need to find a way of setting the value in ucControl2 from ucPageControl. Is this possible at all?
I am writing an Ajax Server Control in ASP.NET C# 4.0 in VS 2010.
After writing the javascript prototype class by hand, I don't know of a way to compile and debug file. To see why my "onclick" event doesn't work.
I'm creating an Ajax Server control by inheriting from Control & IScriptControl, and trying to get an onclick event handler to work. The written control is actually a "DIV". Can someone tell me why it doesn't work?
public class FrebbleSquare : Control, IScriptControl { IEnumerable<ScriptReference> IScriptControl.GetScriptReferences() {
I've got two textboxes running server side and have their visibility turned off. I'm using a couple of ASP.NET controls which require the textboxes to exist. However, I am filling them from the code behind and would not like the user to see this. Can the user turn the visibility on and see the values entered in the text box? I tried using FireBug, and I couldn't seem to select the visibility option in order to edit it. However, I'm quite new to Firebug, so there may be another way? Or does running it server side mean that the client can't ever view the contents of the textbox?
have two user controls on one aspx page. UC1 has a grid which contains a link button column which user clicks. Based on the value of clicked cell, I need to show some data into UC2.How do I pass data from UC1 to UC2? How do I invoke a function of UC2 from UC1?
