AJAX :: ScriptManager Will Not Perform Asynchronous Postbacks?
Jul 14, 2010
I am trying to integrate ASP .Net AJAX into an existing application, but so far I am striking out. After significant digging, I found that for some reason, the ScriptManager was set so that SupportsPartialRendering is false, overriding EnablePartialRendering. From looking at the MSDN documentation, it seems to me that this should not be the case. The rules for determiningrSupportsPartialRendering are (from MSDN):The W3CDomVersion property value must be greater than or equal to 1.0.The EcmaScriptVersion property value must be greater than or equal to 1.0.The SupportsCallback property value must be set totrue.Using Firefox 3.6 and IE7+, these tests should have passed. W3CDomVersion = 1.0, EcmaScriptVersion=1.4, and SupportsCallback=true.n an effort to see if I could get around it by setting the value myself, I overrode the OnInit function in the code behind to explicitly set SupportsPartialRendering to true.his appeared to attempt to start an async postback, but failed with the javascript error "this._postBackSettings.async' is null or not an object" from within the ASP.Net AJAX scripts.
Also, I created a sample application outside of my existing project and got it working exactly as I wanted. When I copied and pasted all the code from the sample project and put it into the existing solution (aspx and code behind) it experienced the same issue. I know that it has something to do with the existing solution, but I am at the end of my rope as to what it could be.Other relevant information:he solution I am trying to integrate this into was at one time upgraded from ASP .Net 2.0 to 3.5.The controls which trigger the async postback are in a repeater and are being registered with ScriptManager.RegisterAsyncPostBackControl during prerender by looping over the bound items in the repeater. This occurs after the Repeater is databound. At the same time, triggers are dynamically added to the UpdatePanel. Code snippet (taken from OnPreRender):
[Code]....
I think the "_postBackSettings.async is null" error is something of a red-herring and is an indication that I am headed down a wormhole, so I am not considering heading down the path of forcing SupportsPartialRendering to true for now. Does anyone know what else could be turning it off in the first place? Or what else could be preventing partial rendering from functioning as expected?
I am generating an html flow into Update Panels in a content ASPX page (VB.Net 2008 Professional w/ SP1). These include EDIT anchor tags that call a javascript function which calls __doPostBack(target, args); so I can interact with the code behind. This all works fine except on some of the postbacks the connection with the browser just seems to get closed prematurely and suddenly the webpage displays a directory listing. When debugging it, it only happens sometimes, at different places for the E and D options below but not for the V or AddPost or AddArticle. I am just stepping through E or D and suddenly the web page show a directory listing. (What is that? Is the connection crashing? Is the page suddenly redirecting to the base directory because it crashed?)
I have a user control with both an UpdatePanel and a ScriptManager.
Some pages in the system have a ScriptManager of their own, and need to include the UserControl.
This throws the "You can only have 1 ScriptManager" exception.
If I remove UserControl's ScriptManager, I'll get 'UpdatePanel1 requires a Script Manager" exception.
I've tried to modify the UserControl to dynamically include it's own script manager if none exists. But all the methods I've used before involve adding a delegate to Page.OnInit-- which won't work, since the UserControl Init fires first.
Because the system designers here like making my life difficult, I can't create a MasterPage, or a BasePage for the system in inherit off of. I'd be stuck going to each page an adding a ScriptManager before the UserControl on each of them. Is there any way of, in the UserControl, detecting if the page has a ScriptManager, and if not, adding it dynamically in a way that makes the UpdatePanel happy?
What I'm looking for is to disable the submit button if any of the inner updatepanels are in postback mode. I would also like some way to block that particular panel. I guess for the outer updatepanel, updatemode should be set to conditional, and usechildrenastriggers should be false. What's really bugging me is how to block the panel while a postback is occurring.
In all my tests thus far, the outer updatepanel's updateprogress is triggered, which blocks the whole page.
So I have a page with an UpdatePanel and some controls in there. When I explicitly type/copy+paste the page's address into the address bar, let VS navigate there for me, or follow a link to the page, all of the AJAX works fine. But if I refresh this page, the JS on the page initiates the async postback, but the appropriate event is never called on the server (although Page_Load is) and the client never recieves the markup sent back by the server. This issue seems to be limited to Firefox 3.6 (Gecko build 1/15/2010)(doesn't happen in IE8). I have yet to try on other versions of Firefox.
I have a very typical set up, an ajax update panel is updated when a drop list of offices changes. Each form could have it's own values, for instance each store will have it's own list of employees. Here is where the fun begins. The form can be changed by the drop down (new office) or validated and submitted.
On drop down change, I create a new instance of the same rad combo, bind it to the current data, confirm that the correct data is bound. Then on the return trip I see selected the default user from the previous user. This is a composite control, and firebug shows me that the value for the "text box" that simulates the combo still has the old value. I'm suspecting onViewStateLoaded, but turning viewstate off for the Telerik didn't . II don;t need it anyway, cuz I have to put the selected value in another hidden to make a cross page post on submit.
I have a user control that needs a javascript function so I put my JS code in a variable and used the ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript in Page_PreRender of the control as follows
I have a form which I am using the RoundedCornersExtender, If I am using the ScriptManager control I am getting the following error-Error: AjaxControlToolkit requires ASP.NET Ajax 4.0 scripts. Ensure the correct version of the scripts are referenced. If you are using an ASP.NET ScriptManager, switch to the ToolkitScriptManager in AjaxControlToolkit.dll.I googled it and found that one way to overcome this is to use the ToolkitScripyManager, I replaced the ScriptManager with the ToolkitScriptManager and I dont get the above error anymore. On this same form I am using an UpdatePanel control but from some reason I am not getting a partial render but always a full page render.
Currently using Framework3.5 Ajax Dll-3.5 Pages included -MasterPage and 6-Default Page's myquery i m currently using Different Designing Interace for all the Default Page's means some of page's includes update panel and some not sly some page's include ajax toolkit tool's like -CascadingDropDown,UpdatePanel and Masked Edit Control do i need to
add scriptmanager in all the page's involving MasterPage? add ScriptManager or ToolScriptManager in Master Page ? add toolscriptmanager in masterpage and rest of page's using ajax controls and update panel
I'm having a serious problem with my ASP.NET AJAX application. There is an javascript function in my application needs to be executed after the Timer_Tick event. Here's the code behind:
[Code]....
When I call the javascript function 'UpdateValue' for the first time(at onload page event), it works correctly. But after the Timer_Tick event, it does nothing. This is the HTML code:
[Code]....
What's the problem with the ScriptManager or the Timer_Tick event?
I am trying to update a listbox on the server from javascript using Ajax PageMethods. How would I reference the listbox control inside the Shared Sub, I get Error 156 Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or shared member initializer without an explicit instance of the class. The reason I want to do it this way is because when I updated it on the client the code-behind did not have the updated count.
I am relatively new to asp.net. In My asp.net website, i have a method GetData(int id) which is called Repetitively, depending on id count, GetData is desinged to get data from sharepoint and sql server both. if the Id count is high say =10, my page load time increases because GetData is called 10 times and the page load time keeps adding up. so I want to ask, is there any way that this GetData() be called asynchornously or by the use of some thread, so that my page loads faster.
Since i am fresher to .net, i m unable to handle asp.net. I have call asynchronous ajax call using XMLHTTPRequest and also use QueryString to filter Employee details.
Is there any way can let me set a textbox's value before the asynchronous postback. but I don't want to add a handler for a control which caused that asynchronous postback, because there are too much control can cause that. I want to know if there is a client event would be caused before the postback.
I tried the event initializeRequest of PageRequestManager to do this, but it did not work, it seems like the request has been generated when this event was executed, the value i set in this event for textbox did not be sent to server.
here is a page I used to test
<%@ Page Language="C#" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> runat="server"> <script
We have recently upgraded to Framework 3.5 from 2.0. Since then, areas of the site now do full postbacks where they did partial postbacks in 2.0. There are numerous cases and they seem to differ. In one case there is a image button within a repeater that is in an update panel. The update panel is also within a user control. In 2.0 the click of the image button would cause a partial postback. Now in 3.5, it results in a full postback. If the repeaters' ItemCommand event is set up in the update panels' asyncpostback triggers, it will work again. Shouldn't the controls be picked up by the updatepanel by default? Other areas of the site that use similar controls and methods seem to work fine.
Having to some kind of code fix is really not an option. We would require a full scale manual retest of the whole site to find all the partial postbacks that no longer work and try and fix. We do not have the time or resources to handle that. I am hoping there is a setting or property in the web.config that I am overlooking that could be set that would return everything to working as it did in 2.0.
I have an CONTACTS page.It has the 4 textboxes, the SEND button and the validation control for the 4 textboxes. How can i use an update panel, so when the user clicks on the SEND BUTTON, it does not do a postback ?
1. I have couple of checkboxes and some text fields outside the updatepanel.
2. Based on the checkbox selection, I will be hiding/showing the fields to user using javscript.
3. I have a upload control in the same page which is placed under the updatepanel. When I upload the file, I will be reading the content of the file and I'm trying to load it into the controls which are outside the updatepanel. As I know the controls won't updated until unless it has been added under the updatepanel.
4. I moved all the controls outside the udpatepanel (checkboxes and textboxes) and placed it inside the updatepanel so that when the file is uploaded I can read the file and assign to the controls.
After this, I was able to assign the values to the control. However, the problem is, the state of the page (javascript hide and show) has not been retained during the postback. For example, if i have 2 checkboxes and 2 textboxes, if i click firstone, it should show the first checkbox. If I click the second checkbox, it will show the second textbox. By default, when the fresh load happens, first textbox will be shown. When I click the second checkbox (its showing the second textbox) and do the postback by uploading the file, the state gets lost and when the page load completes, it's showing the first textbox instead of showing the second textbox.
I had this problem: I created a WebUserControl that used som Ajax stuff - hence it needed a ScriptManager.
The problem was that I couldn't add it to the WebUserControls html code (the .ascx file) since the WebUserControl sometimes was placed into a parent page that already had a ScriptManager, and I couldn't add a ScriptManagerProxy since the parent page sometimes didn't had a ScriptManager.
Alot of people just use a ScriptManager on the MasterPage, but this fails if: one doesn't use a MasterPage or one uses iFrames etc. that uses stand alone aspx pages, like Thickbox might do...
Here's the solution:
in the WebUserControls code behind (.cs file), put this:
I just downloaded the latest (3.5.40412.0) version of Ajax Control Toolkit and in order to update the existing version, I have replaced <asp:ScriptManager with <ajaxtoolkit:ToolkitScriptManager. The page loads with an javascript error:
Error: $get("id of ToolkitScriptManager_hiddenfield") is null Source File: https://localtest.dk/layouts/site.aspx?_tsm_hiddenfield_=sitesscriptmanager_hiddenfield&_tsm_combinedscripts_=%3b%3bajaxcontroltoolkit%2c+version%3d3.5.40412.0%2c+culture%3dneutral%2c+publickeytoken%3d28f01b0e84b6d53e%3aen-us%3a1547e793-5b7e-48fe-8490-03a375b13a33%3a475a4ef5%3aeffe2a26%3a1d3ed089%3a5546a2b%3a497ef277%3aa43b07eb%3a751cdd15%3adfad98a5%3a3cf12cf1%3ad2e10b12%3af3d989c9 Line: 48
Can anybody explain why cant you have more than one scriptmanager control in a page. Why gets emitted in the markup which creates a problem with two scriptmanager control on the page.
I'm finding that the scriptmanager and the updatepanel and basic implementations of AJAX for ASP.NET. I'm just wondering whether these were required to use AJAX and partial page update and referencing handlers such as button1_click on the server code page ?
Also if i can ask another question, I'm also wanting to know whether the updatepanel can support feed-in like facebook ? What I'm wanting to do is have something that updates the screen (like the update panel), and items within this panel contains links. When the user clicks on the link it shows a modal div, giving the user options to do some updates. Once the user clicks submit, then this makes a call to the server to update the details then also update the panel. Within the panel I also want to move some of the div elements using javascript (causing the drag and drops to save to the database).
