Is it possible to send a binary file file from client to server using ajax???
am using ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") to get a binary file from client. I need to send the binary data to server.
I have an asp.net panel having various controls including gridview. I have converted this panel into pdf and attached it as an email attachment using memory stream. Everything is working fine. Now I have an File upload control outside panel through which I have to attach a file and send it in mail along with the already attached panel. But I am unable to figure out how to do it.
View 1 RepliesI have an ASP.NET page with a text status and a button to export an Excel file. When the user clicks the button, I want to generate the file on the fly and return it to the client as binary stream. Then I want to change the text status to show success/failure.
So far I can generate and send the file no problem, but obviously the statuses don't get displayed, since the server response was used to send the file and not a new updated page with the new status.
I'm not sure what's the cleanest way to approach this. I can think of something but is it the best way:
User clicks on button. File is generated and saved as a stream in the session. Statuses are updated and the page with the new statuses is returned to the client. A piece of Javascript on the page opens a 3rd party page which retrieves the saved stream from the session.
There are many customer' order as pdf file stored in one file server.my app just open url (file path) to display pdf file on the screen.Now, boss want me to create a asp.net app to send an email with attached order pdf file which is the same url as intranet. How to complete it?

I would like to be able to retrieve the raw text of the file to be able to manipulate it for hit-highlighting and other functions.Does anyone know of a simple way to either parse out the files and save the raw text on save, either via SQL or .net code. I have found that Adobe has a filtdump utility that will convert the PDF to text. Filtdump seems to be a command line tool, and i don't see a way to use a file stream. And what would the extractor be for Office documents and other file types?-or-Is there a way to pull out the raw text from the SQL Full text index, without using 3rd party filters?Note i am trying to build a .net & MSSql solution without having to use a third party tool such as Lucene

My files are stored on a data repository in different formats like .doc,.docx,.pdf,.jpeg,.jpg,.tiff. I want to get those files in binary format(i.e byte[]) so that I can able to see that file to the user using a radbinary image control.I am able to get .jpeg and .jpg files and I can show those to users.But while I am trying to show .doc,.docx,.pdf files I am getting "Not valid parameter" exception.How can I solve this problem? My doubt is that pdf,doc,docx files are having no of pages. So while converting this total pages in to binary data I am getting error. I'm having a very hard time wrapping my head around this problem (it might be the heat from the summer finally arriving).
Problem:
I want the user to press a button client side which performs javascript data preparing and at last send a JSON structure to (currently a asmx webservice on) the server. The JSON structure is several levels deep.
Server side I create a PDF file which I want to send back to the user.
Goal:
The user feeling is that she presses a button and expects a PDF to return to her - either in a new window or as a download (preferrable).
Tools:
The system consists of (client side) HTML, JavaScript and ExtJS and (server side) ASP.NET.
Normally I would use an ashx handler to return a file to the client, but can I send a JSON structure to the handler and still be able to parse it correctly server side?
I am searching for the pattern to use.

This works in other browsers but not in chrome. I am trying to allow users to upload large files and have an ajax call to update them on the progress of the file upload.
So a unique ID is generated on the client side and added to the action of the form before sending. Then the form is submitted (form only contains a file upload input) and an ajax call is made to get the progress of the upload. The ajax call goes to another page and uses the ID to lookup the upload.
I am using JQuery 1.5.1. Debugging this and putting something on the error function give me nothing other than "error". Not very helpful. I used Chrome's debugger and it just says failed to load resource xxxx.aspx. xxx.aspx is the URL i needed. Turns out that there seems to be some sort of conflict between the form and the ajax call.
I tried of creating a new object in javascript.
var ds= Ajax.Web.DataSet();
In project references i had added the Ajaxpro2.dll .
Do i need to install any custom libraries from javascript.
Is it possible to convert a datatable into binary data and save it into on a binary field on database?

as per my flow on every click i have a postback without which i cannot store data to client or server.i have 2 ways of data storing one is client side in javascript variables in form of array(which can be lost on postback) the data to be stored are of differnt types some are numeric , some single characters some sepearted with comma other way is on each post back save the data in a session varibale on server & then access currently i have second way considering both the ways and in accrodance with the current flow which is best for maintenance & access speed reasking as i am notyet cleared abt the things.

I'm retrieving a binary file from the database, a .pdf file that I would like to let the user open and view. From what I can tell, there are two steps to do this:
1. Convert binary file to byte array
2. Convert byte array to file content

View 2 RepliesI have a website that uploads different file types, creates thumbs from the files and saves the file and thumbs to their respective folders. every so often it throws an exception string or binary data would be truncated, Ive never encountered this locally. I have a problem pinning down the circumstances that it happens, I thought it was documents with spaces in the name but that works sometimes as well. This is really bugging me and I need to fix this. The db table fields are long enough, trust me . Has anyone else ever encountered this issue?
