I know that I can receive an javascript object from the server via ASP.NET AJAX using Json. But I am not sure how can I send an javascript object from my client-side javascript to my server-side code. And if I can, how can I extract this object in my server-side code and access its members?
I'm trying to save some content whenever a button/hyperlink is clicked using jquery.ajax (Using Asp.net 3.5). The logic is as follows:
Through .bind in jquery I bind my own method(MakeLog) to a button click or hyperlink click. The click events of button/hyperlink contain nothing, I need to use .bind for selective controls.Now we have a button whose click event will fire a method, say MakeLog.Code snippet for MakeLog is as follows:
This works fine in IE but in Firefox this is not sending the data back as expected.I tried to identify the issue and came across the following: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3522944/jquery-ajax-calls-async-false-vs-async-true .What I understand is that, whenver page is redirecting/reloading due to button click or hyperlink click the async call is not working properly.
I have a simple web method written in the code-behind (not a separate asmx) of a test aspx page.
All it does is return a DataTable(or DataSet) both are failing, gives a blank 500 error saying "There was an error processing the request"
If I switch the return variable type to String, it works fine
I think my issue has to do with the version of the System.Web.Extensions, is that the assembly that actually contains the JSON communication implementation?
I've read all kinds of tutorials about how it should be possible to return the DataTable to javascript and then read the properties with javascript syntax.
For some reason it isn't working for me.
My web extensions is imported through my web.config with the following version
i have a array in javascript and need to send to server how i can send it in jquery and get them in controller . to send javascript array and get them in controller [c#]
I've been stuck on this one for a while, so it's time to consult the pros. I've created a charting application that uses javascript to do heavy DOM manipulation/generation on the client (creating barcharts made of colored divs, etc).
Long story short, I want to avoid sending my js library to the client. Is there any way to create the content on the server, using my existing javascript library, and only send the javascript-generated HTML to the client?
I'm looking for possible ways for sending files from browser to server. One obvious way is using form with enctype='multipart/form-data'. I wonder if there are other ways than this.
The reason I ask you this question is this file uploader: http://aspnetajax.componentart.com/control-specific/upload/features/core_features/WebForm1.aspx
It's not flash based, but it sends the file in a way that it gives you a progress bar, but when you send a file with form with enctype='multipart/form-data' the whole file will be send to the server so you can't actually show a progress bar of uploading process.
condition : server = asp.net FW3.5 .... Client = just and just htmls (no server control /no runat ="server" att)
i open a ajax request from browser and that is ok problem:
1. in case above a page_load happend on server we all know that, but i cant determine is it asynchorus load or normal load 2. as response of that AJAX call i can't use response.write() cause it will redraw entire page not just a portion
In Litle Details: suppose i there is a <div id = ....> on client page, i just need to send a table, after that javascript will put that under the div. and response write can't do this cause it send xml for entire page not for just tha table.
need to send a byte array from javascript into a c# page method. The int and string variables work fine, but when I step through the c# code, the "object" which was the byte array is null, even though I checked to see if it had a value in JS.
var byteArrayObj = GetBinaryDataFromFile(filePath); var tranAttachmentName = filePath.replace(/^.*\/, ''); PageMethods.AddFileToTran(tranId, tranAttachmentName, byteArrayObj, RefreshPage, onTimeout, onError);
What I am thinking is this? Is it possible for me to upload the data from an excel file to dataset of my application first, so that the user can view the data in a gridview to review it first, before the user strike the save button, to save it in the database. So, that in case there is a problem, the gridview will high light all the data with an error. So the user can easily pull out the excel and correct the data before saving it in the database.
the idea id I need to send data to the client to the server to inform the server of some events at the client, and i need to send data from server to the client to inform the client of some results on the server. now from client to server is easy I use xhr easy enough. and to send data from server to client I thought of using long polling in xhr so to test I wrote the following code:
as per my flow on every click i have a postbackĀ without which i cannot store data to client or server.i have 2 ways of data storing one is client side in javascript variables in form of array(which can be lost on postback) the data to be stored are of differnt types some are numeric , some single characters some sepearted with comma other way is on each post back save the data in a session varibale on server & then access currently i have second way considering both the ways and in accrodance with the current flow which is best for maintenance & access speed reasking as i am notyet cleared abt the things.
How can i send a string session array values to dataset? I have a session array where i stored textbox values. nowi want to send these values to dataset. how can i write the code in c# to send these values to dataset? I dnt want to save these values in database.
I need to make an ajax call from my javascript and access a control on my page. Using a webmethod wont work then since it's static, do I have any other options?
I have a tricky problem. I am in a situation where I need to use a method defined in a .cs file from a javascript function. The problem is we are using .NET 1.1 and AJAX cannot be used for the application.
Also, I will need to pass a string from the javascript to the server side method. The page where I am implementing the javascript is a .as
I have tried doing a post back and creating a RaisePostBack event handler method (both in the .aspx page and the .ascx user control) but no luck.
The javascript is called from a span's onclick event. The javascript function's input parameter would be a string which I will need to use to instantiate an Attachment.
I created a method which instantiates an Attachment using a string and calls the corresponding Delete() method for the Attachment object.
Now, I will need to pass the string from javascript function to the method I have created. I cannot use PageMethods.
I have a project that uses PageMethods to call functions on the server. The server functions (written in C#) return the values as array of strings, without doing any kind of serialization and in the client side (from Js) the accessing of the return values is by using static variable called arguments. I found that sometimes for some users (cases are not repro) sometimes an exception occured
"WebServiceFailedException the server method 'Foo' returned invalid data. the 'd' property is missing from JSON."
Some searching on google I found that people are serializing the return values using DataContractJsonSerializer class and in js accessing the return value using one of the callback function Example:
function OnRequestComplete(result, userContext, methodName) { var Person = eval('(' + result + ')'); alert(Person.Forename); alert(Person.Surname); }
So is the first technique is correct? or what?
P.S:
the function on the server is defined on the default.aspx.cs file as follows:
[System.Web.Services.WebMethodAttribute(), System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptMethodAttribute()] public static string[] Foo(string s);
from the client side the calling is as follows
PageMethods.Foo("value",OnSuccess);
Also all the users have the same browser version (IE8)
I have a panel extended by the ModalPopupExtender that is sometimes shown using the .Show() method in my code-behind. I have a javascript function that resizes the popup and am able to get it to run when I use the client-side show function but how do I run the same javascript function when using the server-side Show() function?
i have used PageMethods to access the server side functions in javascript , but now my problem is that with pagemethods your controls will not go throught the full page lifecyle and these leads me to have "Object not set for an instance of an object" error. Now can someone come with a differnt approach without using pagemethods. What i want is to call a server side function , i dont want to pass any parameters to it
ASP.NET server controls has a few categories, for example, normal ones e.g. TextBox, Button which can be done in HTML/JS; Validation controls: can be done in JS; Login controls: I have seen them implemented in JS. Data bound controls: not sure, but maybe JS can work directly with databases, implementing controls like photo slider. So in the time span of next 5-10 years, will server-side web programming model fall out of mainstream and be replaced by JS/Ajax that interacts directly with databases?
I get this error "The server method xxx timed out." calling a WebService that internally does a hard query to the database, and takes some time. I use this method to change the webservice timeout, but it does not seems to do anything (the timeout errors appears in less than a second). MyService.set_timeout(100000);
What I want to do: dispose of a session upon detecting an "OnBeforeUnload" event in the client. I know it doesn't fire 100% of times (90% accuracy works fine for me)
Here I saw how to do it with ajax, this system, however, breaks down with ajax: I can't use it at all.
