Masterpage - Accessing Pager Public Properties In Child Page

Sep 28, 2010

I'm embarrassed to ask this here because it's clearly been duplicated several times already on StackOverflow. I've read a lot of stuff including:

[URL]

I think I've done exactly what those article say, but it's not working for me.

Here's the top of my master page, named "MasterNoNews.master":

[code]....

In the first case, VS is telling me System.Web.Ui.MasterPage does not contain a definition for urrentUser. In the second case, VS says the type or namespace 'MasterNoNews' could not be found.

Web Forms :: Accessing Properties Of A Masterpage?

Jun 12, 2010

In my application, I use nested master pages. In the main.master which is the top level, all encompossing master page, I have some properties. I want to set the value of this property from a user control embedded into the page which is using master page which is embedded into main.master. To clarify further, here's the hierarchy

main.master
content.master
some_page.aspx
myUserControl.ascx

The property is mpProperty1 which is in main.master. How do I access and set the value of this property from my user control?

Web Forms :: Accessing Methods In A Parent Masterpage From Child?

Jul 26, 2010

I have a main MasterPage that, as intended, forms the entire layout of my site. It has a bunch of methods common to all pages that use the mastertype, such as EnsureLoggedIn and such.

I want to move on to using nested masterpages to open up better layout options in some of the pages, but I am running into an issue. I get the layout of the nested masterpages fine, but I cannot access any methods in the parent masterpage.

I know my explanation seems a little sparse; I'm not exactly sure how to word what I'm looking for, heh. But here's a short example:

C# - Change Panel "visible" Property On MasterPage From Child Pages?

Jun 11, 2010

I want to show some panel with a label, both located on a MasterPage, from inside it's child pages.. I already did the coding on the MasterPage:

public class MyMaster : MasterPage
{
public void ShowPanel(string pMessage)
{
labelInside.Text = pMessage;
myPanel.visible = true;
[code]...

This "works" ok, but it won't show nothing, since I need the page to be "refreshed" in an "ajax-way" like an UpdatePanel, which I can't use because the Trigger is in another page, right?I really need this to work.. even if you have another completely different way to do this,

Child Properties Not Initialised Automatically With RIA?

Feb 2, 2011

Within my project I have created an Entity Data Model, complete with relationship links between the various tables. I notice when I do so, Visual Studio automatically creates a property named after this link.

I have then generated a Domain Service Class based on this data model, and once again within this a property is generated representing the link, ie within my ChemicalApplication class there is a Chemical property of type Chemical.

The trouble is, within the silverlight client, I can access the ChemicalApplication data object no bother, and can see the ChemicalApplication.Chemical property, but as soon as I try to access it, I recieve an error that the property is not initialised.

Do these auto-generated child properties not automatically initialise? If not, how do i manually assign a value to them within the RIA Domain Service?

C# - Masterpage Response.Redirect Before Child Call?

Aug 23, 2010

I have a masterpage and inside that masterpage I have to check if a session is null or not. If the session is null, then there has to be a redirect to a login page.

That is no problem, but the problem is that the masterpage also have controls using the session and the child also uses the session so I get a nullreferenceexception.

I now have this:

[code]....

But the problem is that the controls on the masterpage are also called instead of redirecting immediatly.

So the main question:

How can I redirect immediatly, without loading further things. Because the page_init gets called as first method the redirect should solve my nullreferenceexception, but than I don't need to load all components etc.

Web Forms :: Inserting Code Into Masterpage Tag From Child Page?

Feb 14, 2011

I have a some javascript code that I only want to run in one child page but it needs to be in the head tag to function correctly.

<script type='text/javascript' src=[URL] ></script>
<script type='text/javascript' src=[URL]></script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='lightview/lightview.js'></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="lightview/lightview.css" />
end code

Can anyone tell me how to do this? I cannot put it straight into the master page as it conflict with some other javascript code that I am running on a different page! And I cannot put it into the body of the child page because it does not function correctly.

Execute LINQ Query Using Properties Of Child Entity Set

Nov 25, 2010

I am having a meltdown over something that seems so simple and yet isn't working. Here's my scenario.

I have an object structure of tEvents, which contains properties of an event like a run of concerts. tEvents in turn contains an entity set of tEventOptions, which include properties like EventDate, Cancelled etc. I would like to query a list of tEvents using properties of the tEventOptions, for example filtering by date.

My pageis using a calendar object to show event dates. So I am trying to find if any tEvents in the List coming back from the database match the date of the day element being rendered in my Calendar control like so (in this snip 'data' is List and results from a db query):

[code]....

Except r, my query result var, is always true no matter what data it receives. I have tried the sub query using other properties of tEventOption and get the same 'true' result each time. I know that the data does not reflect this result so I clearly have a problem with the structure of my query, but for the life of me I cannot find a way to resolve it.

Web Forms :: Reusing Class Properties Invoked In Masterpage In A User Control

Feb 2, 2010

I'm working on a project that uses a master page. When the page loads I'm calling a class (which I feed and ID into) to get back certain values for a location that the user has selected. Things like town name etc.

On the home page I have a user control which has some statistics for that location too.

Is there a way that I can get the user control to pull values from the class invoked by the Master Page (which has already been fed the ID, hit the db and pulled back the values), rather than creating a new instance of the class within the user control and having to supply the ID and hit the db all over again? This is now I'm calling the class in the masterpage. I have a method "CheckForStoredLocation" that goes off and gets all the data I need.

Web Forms :: Changing MasterPage Disables Child Page ImageButtons

Feb 2, 2010

I have a ASP.NET C# 3.5 web application, where I am changing the masterpage & theme for certain pages that have ASP.NET controls. The problem is that when the masterpage/theme is changed, the ASP.NET ImageButtons on the child page cease to function altogether and show up as normal images. The html source for that page would show a disabled="disabled" field added to the ImageButtons at runtime. All other controls including ASP.NET Buttons work fine, only ImageButtons are effected. I've changed masterpages in files many times and have not come across this problem, probably because I rarely use ImageButtons. I'm beginning to think it may be a bug in .NET itself, but it could be code related. I've also executed a javascript function after
load to set the disabled field to "enabled", which has no effect on the ImageButton but the source confirms it is enabled. The MasterPages / Child Pages are relatively straight forward and I've tried many different combinations to get it working. I'm changing the masterpage & theme via a function like:

public static void ChangeMaster(System.Web.UI.Page page)
{
page.MasterPageFile = "~/GX.Master";
page.Theme = null;
}

Pass Values From MasterPage UserControl To Child ASPX Page?

May 4, 2010

Senario: Masterpage with a UserControl and a child ASPX page

In the past when using this senario I've used an Interface as a way to pass a value from the UserControl (embedded in a master page) to the masterpage code behind then consume that value in the child aspx page.

My question is now that asp.net 4 have arrived is this still a good way to achieve this or is there another or perhaps better way to do it? I've read somewhere that perhaps "delegates" is perhaps another route to take.

C# - Settings Properties Of A Child In A Composite Control In An .aspx Page

Feb 28, 2011

I've got a composite control (class) that exposes an asp:Label through a get-property. Is is possible to set the Text property of the Label through aspx-code?

I'd like to do something like this:
<cfw:MyCompositeControl runat="server" Label.Text="Test" />

One solution is adding each property to the composite class (like a public LabelText), but I'd like to set any property of any child control. So as new features of child controls become available, I'd like to be able to use them on my composite control. So basically I would like to set any property of the exposed child control.

Web Forms :: Accessing A Table On A Page's Masterpage?

Dec 30, 2010

accessing a table on a page's masterpage.

So I have a sitemaster page and I am getting header and footer controls from it. But for a perticular page I would like not to show the footer and just the header.

Therefore, I am trying to access the master page table control with id "footer".

What I have tried and they all didnt work. First I tried,

Dim ptrMaster As MasterPage = Page.Master
ptrMaster.FindControl("footer").Visible = False

This gives me a null pointer error.

Then I tried to put in a accessor method on the site.master (masterpage) itself.

Public Sub HideFooter()
Me.Controls("footer").Visible = False
End Sub

But the problem here is when I create a masterpage object on the page that I would like to not show the footer. I cant see the method. So if I do

Dim ptrMaster As MasterPage = Page.Master
ptrMaster.HideFooter()
HideFooter doesnt show up as a method.
