AJAX :: TabContainer Occasionally Failing To Draw?

Mar 2, 2010

Okay, so this is one of those annoying bugs that happens sometimes, but not with enough regularity to really root out.

Fair warning that I'm still just toddling in ASP.NET, so I could be doing something heartbreakingly stupid. Here's the gist:

I've got a page with the bulk of its content inside of a TabContainer from the AJAX Toolkit. There are a few page elements outside the TabContainer -- mostly just header/footer stuff from the master page. Sometimes the page will load (either initially or on a postback) and the TabContainer will completely fail to draw, leaving a mostly-empty page. Clicking "Reload" in the browser almost always makes everything appear as usual.

What would make a TabContainer occasionally fail to draw? How can I go about debugging this.

AJAX :: SliderExtender Occasionally Not Render TextBox Correctly?

Oct 18, 2010

I am using a bunch of SliderExtenders to morph the ASP Textbox into a Slider control. This has worked great. However, I noticed that 1/20 times, occasionally, the sliderextender fails to morph the textbox. So the textbox actually appears during initial page_load. However, you can still drag the slider around because it is also rendered beneath the textbox.

A subsequent page refresh fixes this problem until some other time.

Second thing, this also frequently comes out more when switching between a javascript tab and an updatepanel.

AJAX :: ContentType Header Attribute Occasionally Not Present In Web Method

Jul 23, 2010

I am having a simple web service method which returns JSON serialized response. The attribute to web method is

[WebMethod, ScriptMethod(UseHttpGet = true, ResponseFormat = ResponseFormat.Json)]

As security of the return data is not a problem, I am Get enabling the HTTP response. On the client (browser) end, my code is as below

[Code]....

Everything works smoothly but occasionally on the web server's event viewer, I see the following error

"Request format is unrecognised for URL unexpectedly ending in /SomeWebServiceWebMethod"

After fiddling through the request headers using Fiddler, I figured out that if I make direct request to the webservice link, contentType header attribute is missing and that is what throws the error. There is a good post by scott guthrie explaining this. I am not able to replicate the issue and not sure what removes the contentType attribute from the request header occasionally.

Php - Ajax Post Failing In C#?

May 24, 2010

I'm trying to post to an external script using ajax so i can mail the data, but for some reason my data is not making it to the script.

$(document).ready(function() {
$("#submitContactForm").click(function () {
$('#loading').append('<img src="http://www.xxxxxxxx.com/demo/copyshop/images/loading.gif" alt="Currently Loading" id="loadingComment" />');
var name = $('#name').val();........

the php script is simple (for now - just wanted to make sure it worked)

<?php
$name = $_POST['name'];
$email = $_POST['email'];
$comment = $_POST['comment'];
$to = 'xxxxx@xxxxx.com';
$subject = 'New Contact Inquiry';
$message = $comment;
mail($to, $subject, $message);
?>

the jquery is embedded in an .aspx page (a language i'm not familiar with) but is posting to a php script. i'm receiving emails properly but there is no data inside. am i missing something? i tried to bypass the variables in this example, but its still not working.

AJAX :: Controls Failing To Load?

Feb 25, 2010

I have a website which uses the latest AJAX Control toolkit. On my pc, the website is loading perfectly well. The page makes use of a tab control and an update Panel - AJAX Control toolkit.Unfortunately when I uploaded the website online, on the shared web server, the website gives the following 3 errors (on IE) :

1) ASP.NET Ajax client-side framework failed to load
2) 'Sys' is unidentified
3) 'Sys' is unidentified

The page finally loads, however the ASP.NET Ajax controls do not load (Tab controls and UpdatePanel). The rest of the page loads perfectly well. I made some searches online, however still cant find a solution.

Facts:1. The site contains an Ajax Script Manager Proxy2. The web.config states that the site is not in debugging mode3. Tried to create a fresh new virtual directory and problem still persists. 4. On my Development machine the website is 100% functional.

JQuery Ajax Call Failing With Undefined Error

Jun 5, 2010

My jQuery ajax call is failing with an undefined error. My js code looks like this:

[Code]....

My ajax source is a generic ASP.NET handler:

[Code]....

Now, if I return an empty object ("{ }") in my handler, the call will succeed. But when I return any other JSON object, the call fails.

The dataFilter handler shows that I am receiving a correct object. Firebug shows the response as expected, and the JSON tab shows that the object is parsed correctly.

So what could be the cause?

[Edit] I should have actually written "when I return any invalid JSON object, the call fails"! :D

MVC :: RC JQuery $.ajax Requests Failing / He Error Code Is 12030 Or 12031

Jan 14, 2010

Yesterday I upgraded to MVC 2 RC. I have several jquery ajax requests that worked fine prior to the upgrade. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

I know the MVC team made changes to the framework to protect against Json Hijacking so that GET requests are not allowed (by default) and I have changed my jquery ajax code to use 'type: "POST",' and then adorned the Action Method with the POST verb.

Again, the odd thing about this is that it works sometimes and other times it doesn't. When it fails, there are no error details. The error code is 12030 or 12031.

C# - Web Service Occasionally Slows Down Significantly?

Mar 11, 2010

My company is running into a problem with a web service that is written in C#/ASP.Net. The service receives an identity key for data in SQL Server and a path to generate and save a PDF report for this data.

In most cases, this web service returns results to the calling web pages very quickly, usually within a few seconds max.

However, it seems to occasionally hit a significant slowdown. The web application calling the web service will generate a timeout error when this slowdown occurs. We have checked and the PDF does get created and saved to the server, so it looks like the web service eventually finishes executing. It seems to take about 1 to 2 minutes for processing to have completed. The PDF is generated using ActiveReports from Data Dynamics.

Wwhen this problem occurs, making a small change to the web service's config file (ie, adding a blank space to a connection string line) seems to restart the web service and everything is perfectly ok for a period of time afterwards.

Other web applications that are running on the same web server do not seem to experience this type of behavior, only this particular web service.

I have added the code for the web service below. It is basic calls to 3rd party libraries. We are not able to recreate this problem in test.

[WebMethod]
public string Publish(int identity, string transactionType, string directory, string filename)
{
try
{

[Code]....

C# - TabContainer In The AJAX Toolkit

Sep 20, 2010

Having a strange issue with the TabContainer in the AJAX Toolkit. We have several views into a customer record system that we have built as ASP.net controls. These controls use UpdatePanels to load data asynchronously. We use jQuery and jquery.ui to place these controls in separate tabs on a single page. Which all works swimmingly. Lately, I've gotten a little tired of the jQuery tab hackish approach and decided to port everything to use the TabContainer. I want to be able to control the tabs as objects.

At first glance, everything works perfectly. I just slapped the controls into tabs in a TabContainer and everything looked great. However, for some reason, databound controls are losing their data. For instance, grid views vanish when I switch pages. A drop down control with an OnTextChanged event, loses its databound list of values upon post back. Something about the TabContainer -> Custom Control -> UpdatePanel -> Control that uses data binding heirarchy is throwing it out of whack and the debugger isn't shedding any light. It seems like control state isn't being stored. I don't really know enough about control state to know what to look for. Here is the markup for the TabContainer:

<asp:TabContainer ID="tcBanner" runat="server" ActiveTabIndex="0" Width="100%"
EnableViewState="False" ScrollBars="Vertical">
<asp:TabPanel runat="server" HeaderText="Comments" ID="tbComments">
<ContentTemplate>
<luBannerControl:Comments ID="commentsTabContent" runat="server" />
</ContentTemplate>
</asp:TabPanel>
<asp:TabPanel runat="server" HeaderText="General" ID="tbContact">
<ContentTemplate>
<luBannerControl:Contact ID="contactTabContent" runat="server" />
</ContentTemplate>
</asp:TabPanel>
</asp:TabContainer>
Here is the markup for one of the controls:
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="pnlComments" UpdateMode="Conditional" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:GridView ID="CommentsGridView" AllowPaging="true" PageSize="20" DataSourceID="BannerSqlDataSource" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" GridLines="None" CssClass="CommentGrid" HeaderStyle-CssClass="CommentGridHeader" RowStyle-CssClass="CommentRowsEven" AlternatingRowStyle-CssClass="CommentRowsOdd">
<Columns>

<asp:BoundField DataField="sprcmnt_user_id" HeaderText="User" SortExpression="sprcmnt_user_id" />
</Columns>
</asp:GridView>
</ContentTemplate>
<Triggers>
<asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="txtSearch" EventName="TextChanged" />
<asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnClearFilter" EventName="Click" />

AJAX :: TabContainer Sys.ArgumentUndefinedExcpetion - Value Cannot Be Undefined

Jul 30, 2010

I have seen posts discussing this error however, no post has identified a solution to address the issue I am having, so here it goes.

I am using Micosoft Visual Studio 2008

.NET Framework 3.5 SP1

AjaxControlTookkit 3.5.40412.0

Step 1: I create a new, ASP.NET Web Application.

Step 2: Add a 'New Item' from the templates called 'AJAX Web Form'.

Step 3: In Source view go to the Toolbox and drug a 'TabContainer' directly below the ScriptManager tag.

Step 4: Switch to Design view and click 'Add New Tab' on the TabContainer control.

Step 5: Switch back to Source view and add a ContentTemplate open and close tag within the TabPanel tags.

Step 6: Between the open and close ContenTemplate tages add something. I added the following 2 letters, Hi.

Step 7: Set the page we have been working on to your startup page and run it.

Step 8: You will get the following exception every time. Sys.ArgumentUndefinedException: Value cannot be undefined. Parameter name: type

I have tried about 15 different ways to create the most simple use of this control and it fails every time in IE7 and FireFox.
