AJAX :: Using DropDownList To Do Update, Autopost Back Required?
May 22, 2010
I have a script that I am trying to trigger an AJAX AsyncPostBack and have been trying to figure out how to get it to work. After searching the internet for a while I noticed something on all the examples. On the asp:DropDownList they use the autopoastback=true tag. If I add it to my script it works fine, if I remove it it stops working. So my question is why is the autopostback required or if it is not what might I be missing? BTY Everything is in C# and .Net 4
I populate two dropdownlist in asp.net. Both are assigned to a required field validator.
The codebehind is as below
[Code]....
the designer code is as below
[Code]....
Now what happens is, when i choose a field from the dropdown and once again when i choose the "-- Select--", the validator appears and then disappears.Where am I going wrong? Why doesnt the validator stay?RegardsHema
Since last week I've had a really odd issue with PageMethods and the back button which i've never seen before. Essentially, I have a 'home page' which on document.ready (using Query), loads some data through PageMethods, and then renders a list - from which you can click through to a details page about the item. In general use, it works fine. However, using the back button after clicking through (ie: going back to the home page), it throws a PageMethods error. The browser's 'authentication required' prompt appears, and if you click cancel, the server returns a 404. The error returned by PageMethods on the client side is 'authentication failed'.
Just FYI, the application is using ASP.NET forms authentication. The weird thing is, this happens as soon as you click the link and click back. It's not like the authentication cookie has expired or anything, and if you click cancel when the prompt appears and refresh the page, it works fine. I just can't work out what is going on. I've tried disabling caching on the page [as I thought it was something to down with some browsers' caches of the DOM), but the same thing happens. One workaround i've had is to redirect the page to itself if the PageMethods error is 'authentication failed', which does work - but only when you cancel the authentication prompt. Obviously the prompt appears, which is not ideal. I don't understand it, and the user is clearly authenticated. Does anyone have any idea which might be happening? It's happening in Chrome, Firefox, and IE.
I know everyone has heard this a million times, but I need help with the back button and the AJAX update panel.I essentially have a form, that has 5 fields:Vehicle Make (In update panel #1) Model (In update panel #1) Trim (In update panel #1) Ownership Status Zip Vehicle model gets populated depending on what you put in make, same with trim. Now once the user hits next, I do a response.redirect. When I hit the back button, the possible values, and the current index is wiped for Vehicle Make, Model, Trim. I cannot figure out a way around this.I have read about that history management feature, but seems uselesss since I need to somehow update the make, model, and trim possible values. Isn't there any way for me to get these values in the viewstate before I post the page?
for SEO purposes, instead of refreshing the page every click of a product, is it possible to click on the product and when the server comes back with the response, to change the URL of the page to reflect the new link to information currently on page?
point is to have ajax redraw the product details portion of the page but have SEO friendly url's displayed so if people want to bookmark the currently selected product, it will bookmark the right url instead of the generic one to access the products page..
For example... here's my entry point:
Products.aspx
product1product2product3 If I were to click product1, the request goes to the server with roducts.aspx?id=product1 but the url is still products.aspx on the response meaning that when people bookmark the product1 item, and they send the link to a friend, the friend always gets the generic product.aspx page.
I'm trying to get around this without refreshing the full page (postback).
Im using updatepanel in my screen.. i have 2 pages when i click submit button in page1 then it ill be redirect to page2 ....in page2 i have one back button..i wrote click event onclick="history.go(-1)"when i click back it just redirect to page 1 but records already showned in page1 not displayed .how can i sove this problem? cai i use any scriptmanager?
I have a page that is mostly dynamically built in the page load of my VB.net code behind page.
The issue is that I made a change to the page and added a button that redirects to a secondary page. When the button is clicked there is a very noticeable lag until the button click event fires because the page is being rebuilt every time.
I had not wrapped the code in the load event in the If not ispostback.... because I have dynamic controls that the user interacts with and I need the page to be rebuilt when the user clicks them.
The dynamic controls are clickable table cells. I did some looking and I found that the RegisterPostBackControl. I thought this would be perfect but, it does not although I maybe using it incorrectly.
I have a page that the users get redirected to. On page load this page runs a bunch of code behind that and loads table. The processing could take a few seconds to minutes depending on how big a report is run. Is there any way to completely render the page before automaticly kicking off the code? I am trying to stay away from forcing the user to click on another button.
In the page load evertything is working fine. Iam using Updatepanel in my page .Images are not displaying with post back i am using telerick grid and jquery in my page. how to get images on postback
I have multiple update panels in a page. how I can know which update panel caused partial page updation on client side before page is partially updated?
Looking for the best technique on handling or at least some documentation showing an example.
Starting Page
Gridview control withing an update panel (also various controls used for filtering NOT IN UPDATE PANEL)
Databinding does not happen during page load.
Databinding is initiated when update panel trigger (asp:Button object) is clicked
Hyperlink column is added to returned records
Hyperlink posts to a separate page for detail for record which the hyperlink was clicked.
Second Page
While navigating via the browser back button to previous page (which contained the update panel and gridview) only the (various controls used for filtering) have retained state. The gridview is not shown (which is how the page loads initially when starting) How can I retain the state of the Gridview and add a step in the browser history all together?

I have a page where in there are various entry fields like name, registration number, country, state etc whcih are mandatory. On selection of country in dropdown, the state dropdown is filled and in the phone number boxes the country code is also filled simultaneously.
When I click on Save button it shows the required fields respective messages in the validation summary. When I select the country the state and country code are filled and the validation summary vanishes though I have not entered text in the other mandatory fields. None of the required fields messages are displayed though all fields except Country state and country code are filled.
I have a number of cascading dropdownlist controls on a page. The results in dropdownlist2 are dependent on the results in dropdownlist1, pretty basic stuff.
I now would like to eliminate the terrible postback or refresh of the page that occurs after the SelectedIndexChanged event fires on dropdownlist1, is it possible to do that in Ajax?
What I want the results in dropdownlist2 to populate without the obvious refresh of the page.
I am having dropdownlist and button in the update panel when i selected item from the dropdown list and click on the button the the item goes into the database
but only first value of dropdownlist is going into database when i selects other values and click on the button it is still inserting the first value of the dropdownlist
I have problem with dropdownlist I can't update gridview in popup. When i click edit everything was show me but I can save. If Idelete dropdown and leave textbox it was save.
This is updatepanel code. as shown in the code, i am referring to ddlClass in triggers which already calls a javascript function loadAllDefaults();
The problem is, since ddlClass is calling javascript function 'onchange' property, i cannot call any other function of backend code and I want to refresh the updatepanel on the basis of selected value of dropdownlist.
How can i do this? I have created a function in c# code in backend but I am not able to call both functions together!
i m using an update panel on a page which contains a listview. the listview (in each row) has a fileupload control and a dropdownlist.
although both controls do not have any interrelated values, its a desgin constraint to use both of them inside a listview row (and hence ...n number of such rows)
everytime i change the selection in the dropdownlist, the file upload control clears.
i have been through this pos, which suggests putting the controls (which cause postback) inside an updatepanel (use AJAX) and keep the fileupload outside of ajax.
[URL]
however my problem is that both my controls are in ajax bound code (that is inside the update panel) and hence the selection clears the file in the fileupload control.
I have a gridview that does a select statement against a sql database. What I want to do is have the data in the gridview refresh upon either hitting the back button or the forward button.
If the back button is pressed it should give me yesterdays data from the table. If I hit the forward button it should give me tomorrows data, at the same time i want the forward button to be limited to going forward only 5 days from todays date. I figure that I have to do this in a Updatepanel however I am unsure as to how to do this.
