get required data back?
<p>
I have a script that I am trying to trigger an AJAX AsyncPostBack and have been trying to figure out how to get it to work. After searching the internet for a while I noticed something on all the examples. On the asp:DropDownList they use the autopoastback=true tag. If I add it to my script it works fine, if I remove it it stops working. So my question is why is the autopostback required or if it is not what might I be missing? BTY Everything is in C# and .Net 4

Since last week I've had a really odd issue with PageMethods and the back button which i've never seen before.
Essentially, I have a 'home page' which on document.ready (using jQuery), loads some data through PageMethods, and then renders a list - from which you can click through to a details page about the item. In general use, it works fine. However, using the back button after clicking through (ie: going back to the home page), it throws a PageMethods error. The browser's 'authentication required' prompt appears, and if you click cancel, the server returns a 401. The error returned by PageMethods on the client side is 'authentication failed'.
Just FYI, the application is using ASP.NET forms authentication. The weird thing is, this happens as soon as you click the link and click back. It's not like the authentication cookie has expired or anything, and if you click cancel when the prompt appears and refresh the page, it works fine. I just can't work out what is going on.
I've tried disabling caching on the page [as I thought it was something to down with some browsers' caches of the DOM), but the same thing happens.
One workaround i've had is to redirect the page to itself if the PageMethods error is 'authentication failed', which does work - but only when you cancel the authentication prompt. Obviously the prompt appears, which is not ideal.
I don't understand it, and the user is clearly authenticated. Does anyone have any idea which might be happening?
It's happening in Chrome, Firefox, and IE.
I have a page where in there are various entry fields like name, registration number, country, state etc whcih are mandatory. On selection of country in dropdown,the state dropdown is filled and in the phone number boxes the country code is also filled simultaneously.
When I click on Save button it shows the required fields respective messages in the validation summary. When I select the country the state and country code are filled and the validation summary vanishes though I have not entered text in the other mandatory fields. None of the required fields messages are displayed though all fields except Country state and country code are filled.
I populate two dropdownlist in asp.net. Both are assigned to a required field validator.
The codebehind is as below
if (!Page.IsPostBack)
{
DataTable dt = new DataTable();
dt.Columns.Add("emp");
dt.Columns.Add("ename");
[Code]....
Now what happens is when I choose a field, and then once again go and choose"-- Select--", the validator appears and disappears.
Why doesnt the validator stay? Where am I going wrong?

I have a gridview bound to a sqldatasource with editing enabled. If I click Edit, then either Cancel or Update, the update or cancel occurs and the Edit button reappears. However, I cannot then click the browser's back button without having the Update and Cancel buttons reappear. A second click of the back button takes me to a state where the Edit button shows again, *then* another back button click will take me to the referring page (the one before the one with the gridview on it.) IOW, it looks like the postbacks are cached. How can I prevent this and have the back button go straight to the referring page?
View 4 RepliesI am using VB.NET & SQL Server. My sproc returns something like this which I need to display on my web page as below:
sproc returns:
ClientNumber ClientName Product
------------------------------------------
100SON Sony TV
100SON Sony DVD Player
100SON Sony Cell Phone
200KEN Kenmoore Microwave
200KEN Kenmoore Dryer
Now based on these data, I need to display some information like below on label in the web page:
100SON - Sony - TV, DVD Player, Cell Phone
200KEN - Kenmoore - Microwave, Dryer
I need you advice on this.What would be the best way to do this?
(1) I can work further on this data in code to generate the required data or
(2) I can work further in the sproc itself to directly return the required data
i have gridview and data already binded like this...

Qasim Nadeem 26 13/01/2010
Ali Ahmad 20 17/02/2010

Using Vb.Net 2003 Asp.Net 1.1
I have a dynamic data bound drop down list, when the user selects thier selected item I have to use the autopostback feature.
Problem is: when the page comes back it is at the top of the page not where i have the control.
I don't really need it to focus back on the dropdownlist but to scroll to it, I want to do it in the code behind.
Any "New" ways to do it, I mean new as in code from like 2010 instead of old code from the early days.
I really don't want to use Page.Register new Script...... code if I can avoid it.
What would be cool is a ScrollToControl() Function for my code behind that worked but didn't register script.

I have created a back button on my asp page. However, I would like this back button a a sinlge click to return the user to the page 2 pages before. I have tried to enter the history.back(2) but with no luck it does not work.
I have a cascading dropdown. After the dropdown is populated(it is in another file) i would like to return back to the original form where the control is placed. is there anyway of doing it
View 4 RepliesI've created a Sign Out link on my page, just like the one you see on the top right hand corner of this forum.
This is the code i use :
<asp:HyperLink NavigateUrl="~/Login.aspx" ID="hypSignOut" runat="server" Text="Sign Out"></asp:HyperLink>
However, after signing out, I click the back button on my browser, I can still go back into the site. How do I prevent this?
i m having problem with logout code in asp.net with c#. this logout code should end session, disable browser's back button and and if somebody try to login by paste the url of any user account page.i used this code in login page
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Session["name"] = TxtUserName.Text;
}

protected void logout_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Session.RemoveAll();
Session.Abandon();

I am trying to see if it possible to create a back button that goes back 3 pages and refreshes that page. The make up of my page is a little complex. The Home page has a password prompt that enables a multiview to be visible with a gridview of information. The gridview has a details link that has a 2 querystrings that gets sent to the details page. The details page has the ability to be edited and updated. this is why I wanted it to go back 3 pages. The code I am using to go back is
<asp:Button ID="Button2" runat="server" CausesValidation="False" OnClientClick="javascript:history.go(-3);return false;" Text="Back" UseSubmitBehavior="False" />
I am using an image button and on click of it i want to go to visited page.
Now i am using - Response.Redirect(Request.UrlReferrer.ToString()),
It is going to previous page, but when i am in a page of some user details where the link is looks like - users.aspx?userid=25 and i visit some other page and click back(image button) i want to see the same serdetail page. How to track that.
When I click Logout page redirect to Login page but when click to browser arrow back then it will goes back, I want to after Logout cannot going to back page...
View 1 RepliesIf I have a search object with a list of fields, can I, using the System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations namespace, set it up to validate that at least one of the fields in the search is not null or empty? i.e All the fields are optional but at least one should always be entered.
View 2 RepliesI am using a datapager inside a nested Listview succesfully. When only one record of data is available the next previous last and first buttons are faded as per normal. However I would like them to not appear at all.The aspx code I have is:
<asp:ListView ID="Pictures" runat="server" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource2" >
<EmptyDataTemplate>
<span>No data was returned.</span>
[code]...
how do people deal with extra data needed to render a list.
eg I have a IList<User> Users that is a property on my viewmodel. However for each row in the user table, extra information needs to be displayed.
should i create a display model for User with the other properties included on it?
I have the following scenario and I'm not sure how to go about in resolving it. Any ideas would gratefully recieved.I have a page(A) with a button that when selected opens a new page(B) with a populated gridView.However if the gridview hasn't got any data to display, rather than use the <EmptyDataTemplate> within the gridview, I'd rather use disable/lock the button on page(A) thus preventing access to page(B)Is this possible? How on earth would I go about such a task ?
View 7 RepliesI am using ASP.net with C#.After I logout its possible to go back to pages using back button.I could fix the prob for the login.I have prob with the logout.I am using the inbuilt login page provided by the asp editor.Should I use sessions?
View 6 Replieswrote an MVC 2 action which shows json data in the browser when i browse to the URL in my Dev environment.
When i upload it to production and i browse to the same url, i get;

I have used Visual Studio 2008 ASP.NET AccessDataSource Wizard to generate the update command. The gridview edit button works. But when I click on Update Link in Gridview, I get this message:
System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: No value given for one or more required parameters.
This is the source code it generated:
