I'm facing a senario in which I want my logged in users can send requests to each other(Request generally is official request like request for resources, etc.).
And other user can get notification for new request(But this is not about e-mail notification).I want to use ajax. I have no idea how to start with. Please somebody help me with this. Simple example will be great to start with.
I need to send notification emails to specific users at different times, Can this be done in the Global.asax page using vb? Also will i have to upgrade my Database from sql express to standard?

I've put my site online and I'm looking to add/change user membership. From Visual Studio, I can access the Website Administration Tool WSAT and it's great if you just want to add users manually. Is there a similar way to change users once the site is hosted on a remote server?For the moment, I change the user information through the WSAT and re-FTP the mdf file; it's pretty painful.

Following one of the other tutorials I have figured out how to manage users [URL] but it does not mention how to delete them from the GridView. I have attached my Page's code plus my VB script. I have added a delete link into the GridView for preparation but all I would like is the VB script so that when the user clicks delete it deletes the user from the GridView and Databse. I finally got membership and roles setup and seems to be working. I have setup a page to allow the creation of a user and editing of roles for a user. I would like to setup a page with a gridview that displays all users and what roles they are assigned. I remember running across someone else that was looking to do the same thing, but cant find it. Not sure if it was in this forum or online somewhere else.
But i found that i can use the aspnet_Membership_GetAllUsers procedure in my db to get all the users, but how can i add the roles to each person and possibly setup the gridview so that each role they have, is displayed on their row in the gridview So i would like to see something like this maybe more data displayed depending on the client request.

The X indicating a checkbox.. and have it setup so they can uncheck the role, that triggers the update and causes the list to refresh and display the new current roles for the individual users. The procedure listed about does not return the roles, so wasnt sure if i could use that procedure and union it with another to get the combined results im looking for.
I am trying to create a comments page for users to review and comment on an article. I have 2 buttons on each comments posted by users; "Like" and "Don't Like". I am stuck with how to track which user voted already for a given comment. I am thinking of two options and would like to know if they are they way to go or is there a better solution.
Option 1: I have created a table in my database with stores, the comment id, the userid of the user who rated it and the value "like" or "don't like". So each time I have to query my table to find out if this user indeed vote for a given comment. The table unfortunately grows exponentially!!
Option 2: I store the commentid, userid, and "like" or "don't like" value in a cookie on the client's machine. I read the cookie and find out if the user has already voted on a comment. This is proving to be VERY quirky with cookie expiration, growing cookie size and also multiple users on the same machine.
In either way, my test case of ~1500 users, and 2 Million comments, this is getting to be HEAVY on both methods. Is there anything better?
Im very new to ASP.net and have no experience with it at all.Im currently developing a website,and am confused about creating users.Im using the create user wizard,everything is working fine.However,I am worried about the security of user information.I believe the user information is stored in the APP_Data folder, am I right in believing that this folder is secure?

In Visual Studio 2005.I have created a Blank solutions(XYZ) and then add a ASP.Net Web Service Project(TESTP) under it.And then create a .asmx file(WEBFI.asmx) and then write a method and add [WEB Method] on top of the method.Now compile it.And then publish it.But in publishing folder I didn’t found any WSDL file which I should call in different machine (which is in LAN ).

In a Web Forms app, I would just add a Web Services solution and do everything in there. Is that the recommended solution for an MVC app?
I am trying to create an msi for a Web Service. I want the web service to be installed as a 'Web Site' not as an 'Application' under Default Web Site in IIS. I have code that creates a web site, but when I try to add it as a custom action under the install node of the msi, the code isn't getting executed. Reading about installers, it seems that anything under the install node gets fired after the installer has already started, if that makes sense. I want to be able to create the web site before the installer actually begins the installation process so that when the user comes to the window where he/she has to choose the Site under which to install the web service it can already be listed there and they'll be able to choose it.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to create a web service application that will need to use .net 4.0 for my datamodeling and other things. I noticed in VS2010 when I select New | Project the "ASP web service app" option is available if .net 3.5 is selected in the combo box but if I change that to .net 4.0 the option goes away.
After researching the only thing I found was a message where someone suggested to use the WCF web service option. I have never dealt with WCF before so I have no idea what path that will lead me down.
Here is my concern... we have existing web services developed in .net 3.5 that are already in use and we have windows based client applications that are developed in Delphi (version 7.0 to be specific) that already talk to these web services with no problems and no special coding required. Delphi can simply import the WSDL which generates an interface unit that gets compiled in and away we go. This new service app I need to create must also be accessed via the same Delphi apps.
The current asp web service apps generate 4 files when "published": web.config, .asmx file and in a in folder there is a .pdb and .dll file.
Can anyone tell me if support for this type of web service app is still available via .net 4.0 and if so how do I create the project or is that something that has been discontinued and thus no longer possible?

I am creating a singleton object in the first request to the web service and keeping it in the memory. This works fine for first few seconds. If I make a request 5 minutes later, I can see that the singleton object is created again? is my singleton object getting disposed after x no of minutes? how can i make increase the life-time of my object forever ?

The idea is that the user logs into the website and is then authorised for all services. I do not want to have a login aspect to my Silverlight application to authenticate users.Therefore I dont want anyone to be able to call my service who is not authenticated.
Could I...Somehow determine this for each Operation Contract. I had a look inside the OperationContext object but couldnt find anthing that stood out as a way to determine who the user was.Somehow attribute the ServiceContract so that the method can only be used by authorised users?Put something in my web.config to stop unathorised users from being able to access the folder containing the services?
My requirement is to call WCF web service from ASP.NET code behind and pass some data for example:void Add(int x, int y);Result of the operation should be somehow stored within WCF web service (member variable).
