AJAX :: Prevent Scroll From "resetting" When Using Updatepanel?

Jan 9, 2010

I have an updatepanel with a button inside. When I click the button the gridview inside the updatepanel is getting re-bound to its datasource. But if I scroll the page during this update the scrollbar bounces back to the position it had when I clicked the button (it happens when the update is complete). Can I prevent this in any way? I would like to scroll the page during this update wihout having the page bounce back to the "button click position" when done updating.

Prevent LinqDataSource Where Clause From Resetting On Postback

Jan 13, 2010

I'm trying to set the where clause on a LinqDataSource object bound to a GridView programmatically on a button click, but when the GridView rebinds data (for instance, when the user sorts) the Where clause resets back to the empty string. Is there a way to prevent this, or is there a better way to filter my results?

UpdatePanel Resetting Object To Inital State?

Jan 13, 2011

I have an application that I am currently writing that works by iterating through nodes, and then updating the page with the information of the current node. I have an UpdatePanel in the page which contains a label, textbox, and a button. The label lists the currently available children of the current node, the user enters in which child they want to go to into the textbox, and then hits the submit button. I set the new value of the node in the submit button's event handler.

Here's my problem: Every time I enter in which node I want to navigate to, the object resets its value to the value it was initially initialized to. I have even put this same code into a Windows Form to validate that it's working correctly to iterate through my tree, and it works as it should, so I know my problem is AJAX-related.

This is the first app that I have written using AJAX, so I am still in the process of learning how it works. Here is the HTML:

<form id="form1" runat="server">
<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager" runat="server"></asp:ScriptManager>
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional">[code]....

current is the current node, which has a public ArrayList of all of its children's IDs. tree is the NodeTree I have; calling Node just returns the new node. Both current and Tree get initialized in the Page_Load event, and that only fires once (when the page is first loaded).It's really pretty simply code; I'm just having difficulty understanding why the AJAX isn't working correctly.

C# - Prevent An UpdatePanel From Updating Programmatically?

Feb 11, 2010

I have a GridView inside an UpdatePanel and because of some bug I can't seem to find, when I download a file (through an iframe inside another updatepanel) the background images of my buttons don't show up.I thought that, since the download doesn't really need to update the panel (which is causing the bug) I want to prevent the UpdatePanel only in this case from updating.I know that I can use the atribute "ChildrenAsTriggers = false" but I don't want to put an updatePanel1.Update() in every function called from inside the gridview.

Web Forms :: Calloutextender Prevent To Use Other Buttons At Another UpdatePanel

May 13, 2010

I have master page with a button of user's connection and with a LinkButton. The problem is that inside the master page I have a registration page that conatins some validators, and callout extender. When I click the button of connection or the LinkButton that are outside the registration page, but on the menu page (=the masterpage), I get the callout extender that pop out without a need. If i wasnt so clear: I cant use any button outside the registraion pagem because of the validators and the calloutextender, who are at another UpdatePanel at all! The buttons I cant use are at another UpdatePanel, and still a else validation from another place is pop ou and cancel my abillity to use those buttons.

Ajax - Call An ASMX Webservice In Javascript Without Resetting Authentication Timers

Nov 23, 2010

Pinging back to a webservice in ajax from the client keeps the user's session alive, I don't want this to happen. More extensive summary For a website we're developing, we need the client to ping back (in js) to a webservice (ASMX) on the server (IIS7.5). This happens to let the server know that the user is still on the site, and hasn't browsed away to another site. This is as our customer wants to let users lock records, but if they browse away to other sites, then let other people take over those locked records. Perhaps the distinction between the client being on the site but inactive and on another site seems unimportant, but that's kinda irrelevant, I don't get to write the UI spec, I just have to make it work.

My problem is this, the ping stops the user from being timed out on the server through the standard forms authentication timeout mechanism. Not surprising as there is that 30 second ping in the background keeping the session alive. Even though we want to know if the user is still on the site, we want the normal forms authentication timeout mechanism to be honoured. I thought I might be able to fix this by removing the ASP.NET_SessionId and .ASPXAUTH cookies in the XMLHttpRequest that is the server ping, but I can't figure out how to do this. This is how my web service & method are defined:

[WebService(Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/")]
[WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)]
[ScriptService]
public class PingWS : WebService
{
[WebMethod]
public void SessionActive(string sessionID)
{
// does stuff here
}
This is how I'm calling it in js (request is over HTTPS, :
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "PingWS.asmx/SessionActive",
data: 'sessionID=' + aspSessionID + '}',
beforeSend: function (xhr) {
xhr.setRequestHeader('Cookie', '');
xhr.setRequestHeader('Cookie', 'ASP.NET_SessionId=aaa; .ASPXAUTH=bbb;');
},
dataType: "json"
});

I was trying with the setRequestHeader, but that just appends to the header rather than overwrites the header, and IIS is happy to ignore that junk I added. I'm thinking maybe I should be trying to do this at the server end, someone take PingWS.asmx out of the loop so that it doesn't keep the session active, but I'm not sure how to do this. Although the title of the question is focused on clearing the cookie in the header, I'd be super happy if anyone points out that I'm being really stupid and there is actually a much better way of trying to do what I'm doing.

I'm thinking at this stage maybe I need to add something to the webmethod that says how long this particular page has been inactive, and use that knowledge to timeout manually. That actually sounds pretty easy, so I think I'll do that for now. I'm still convinced that there must be an easy way to do what I originally wanted to do though. Update I'm thinking I'm pretty screwed in terms of cookie manipulation here as both the .ASPXAUTH and ASP.NETSessionId cookie are HttpOnly, which means the browser takes them out of your hands, you can't access them via the document.cookies object. So I would say that leaves me with:

Updating my SessionAlive webmethod to track each request so I can tell how long the user has been sitting idle on a page and timeout if needs be Marking the .asmx page somehow on the server end so that it's taken out of the normal authentication/session tracking flow I know how to do 1. so I'll start there but 2. seems much cleaner to me.

Prevent A LinkButton Double Click Inside An UpdatePanel

Nov 30, 2010

I have a LinkButton inside an UpdatePanel that I do not want the client to click more than once before the UpdatePanel refreshes its contents. Right now the link button initiates a partial postback for every client side click until the update panel has time to refresh. This particular link fires off a very expensive process which I'd rather not have run unnecessarily. Is there a .NET standard way of doing this? Whats a good solution for this?

What I am most interested in is how to configure the UpdatePanels to allow this.

AJAX :: How To Trigger Updatepanel Postback From Another Updatepanel

Mar 4, 2011

I have a web user control with one updatepanel (pnlUpdate_2), some controls and one apply button. I display the web user control as a modalpopup in my default page. In my default page i have an updatepanel (pnlUpdate_1) with a gridview and I modify that gridview with the apply button of the web user control. The web user control is for made a custom search of the gridview data. I have a problem with both updatepanels. If I set the updatemode as always in one of them (pnlUpdate_1) and the other as conditional (pnlUpdate_2), the pnlUpdate_1 make a postback in the pnlUpdate_2; I'm not an expert on this but I think that's why the pnlUpdate_2 disappear and reappear after postback of some controls in that updatepanel (not the apply button, it close the modal after postback). I try all the combinations and the problem persists. So I put both updatepanels as conditional and in some way it works; now the problem is that when I click the apply button in pnlUpdate_2 to modify the gridview in pnlUpdate_1 the pnlUpdate_1 not made the postback I get the pnlUpdate_2 postback when I use some control inside the pnlUpdate_1.

How can I postback the pnlUpdate1 from pnlUpdate_2 with the apply button?

AJAX :: No Vertical Scroll Bar On Accordion?

Mar 30, 2010

I've got a site that uses an Accordion, it has AutoSize="Limit" and the height is set to 600, however, when rendered, the Accordion div style is set to:"overflow-x: auto; height: 600px; overflow: hidden;"Does anyone know why this is the case? My understanding is that an AutoSize value of Limit should render style of "overflow-y: auto;" if not "overflow: auto;"?I tried setting the width to see if that makes any difference, but it still has "overflow: hidden".At the moment I have a work around which places the Accordion (with AutoSize="None") in a div with a style of "height: 420px; width: 750px; overflow: auto;", but I'm surprised that this issue exists and would prefer if I didn't have to use this work around.
