I've implemented the Tabs control in AJAX Control Toolkit.In some instances, I want to select a specific tab on page load. Is there a way to do that?For example, I have 4 tabs on my page. If it's the first time a user is logging into the app, I want to automatically select the 3rd tab which contains some intro info about the app. From that point on, the default tab i.e. the first one would do fine.

I need a way to change the ActiveViewIndex of a multiview control based on some query results. Right now I test to see if I have rows returned from my linq query. If so, set a certain view active. If no rows are returned, I would like to set a different view active. I would like to do this on Page_Load if possible.
Right now I get the fatal "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error on page load with it bombing at line 12. My count is given a value at runtime so that is not the issue. Can anybody tell me why this is and how to get around it. Code is attached.
I also tried this both the pre render and Page_Init event but both yielded the same behavior with the Object reference not set to an instance of an object error. I can do this just fine in an onclick event for a button, but now I need a way to run a test and set the default view when the page loads. Seecode below

The drop down list is used to determine what search criteria will be used to find an invoice. I tried to set the Select method in the switch statement. I don't understand how to set the Select Method and the select parameters programmatically though . I tried a few different ways but can't make the compiler happy. My ODS is in scope in the code behind. I'm not able to access it's properties though. The BAL resides in a separate project that is a ClassLibrary. I also have a using statement for the ClassLibrary project in the code behind.

I am working on an ASP.NET application that has a tab container with 5 tab panels in it. There are 2 'admin' user tabs, 2 'regular' user tabs, and a 'receipt' tab. Now, depending on what kind of user is accessing the page, I am enabling or disabling/hiding 2 of the tabs (regular or admin), but I am always showing the receipt tab. So, in essence, there are only ever 3 tabs visible - either 2 'regular' tabs and a receipt tab, or 2 'admin' tabs and a receipt tab.
Now, when a user logs into the app from the login page, and is directed to the page with the tab container and 5 tab panels on it, I would like to have the receipt tab selected by default, and to have it shown to the user. This tab is the fifth in the container (TabIndex = 4), and so in the OnLoad event for the page, I try setting something like this up
tabContainer.ActiveTabIndex = 4
...but it shows nothing. So I am thinking that maybe, since 2 of the tabs are hidden, I need to set the index to 2 (for the 3rd visible tab, which should be the receipt tab). Well, when I do this, the 3rd tab in the tab panel control at the top is indeed selected - but the actual content in the tab is still the content from the first tab (TabIndex = 0)....? Is there some sort of event I need to call to "flush out" what is being displayed in the actual panel, or am I missing something else?

Otherwise coming to my question, where I'm struck after trying above thing at myself and failed then had to go around the Ajax way of doing this. Now I'm using Ajax call over the onclick event of each hyperlink from top navigation and it's succesfully loading external .aspx pages (for example,[URL]. The problem is when user comes on the application on first time, it only shows the .aspx page which has a navigation and a Ajax content place holder which is programmed to be filled with contents on click event.

have one update panel on the master page (used to show summary info like errors and success message) and then a updatepanel on the content pages, all of which are conditional. where its not working (or i'm doing something wrong) is when i call a method in the master page to update its updatepanel to show the new summary message it does nothing.

I have a GridView and a FormView on the same page. They both have separate DataSources. This is a simple Master Details configuration, when a someone clicks on the Select link in the GridView, the FormView brings up the Details data. But for some reason the FormView's DataSource is trying to retrieve data when I load the page. This is causing an error because no ID is passed from the GridView.

So, this way I can select on runtime accoerding to the current theme the web.config currently being used.

How can I programatically call a gridview row when it is loaded based on the primary key. For example, say I have a record in the gridview where the column name is ID (Identity Field) and has the number 37 in it. When the gridview loads up, I need to get the rowindex where the primary key = 37 and have that row automatically selected.

I would like a single button that will fire a loading of a user control into a panel to simulate a wizard-type functionality.
Here's what I want to accomplish: I have two .aspx pages, the first page with a ddl to select a vendor (SelectVendor.aspx), and one to add a vendor (NewVendor.aspx), if it's not in the first one. If a user adds a new vendor on the NewVendor.aspx page I want the page to automatically redirect back to SelectVendor.aspx and have the ddl automatically select the new vendor that was just added. Here's where I'm at so far: If a vendor is not listed in the ddl on SelectVendor.aspx, a user can click a button to navigate to a page to add a new vendor (NewVendor.aspx). On NewVendor.aspx the user types the name of the new vendor in a textbox and clicks an insert button to add the new vendor, then the page is automatically redirected back to SelectVendor.aspx with the new vendor name added to the QueryString. For example, let's say a user adds a vendor name "Best Vendor": The page is redirected back to SelectVendor.aspx as "SelectVendor.aspx ?vendor=Best Vendor"Now all I need from here is to have the ddl programmatically select the new vendor by the text value in the QueryString.

within my app, I'm allowing the users to selects their styles for their page, now I want to take it a step further and allow them to select a page layout, (nav - top or side, headers, footers, etc) I have several user controls predefined with different layouts and I show those layouts in a dropdown, now, my question is, how can I load the new layout for a preview to the user?
My page is using an updatepanel for the css changes, now I want that same updatepanel load the template with their selected layout. I looked at updatepanel.LoadTemplate and LoadControl and with no luck.
