AJAX :: Update The Parameters In GenerateImage Control?
Jan 8, 2011
Does anyone know how to update the parameters in the GenerateImage from code behind? The markup for the control is as follows:
<cc2:GeneratedImage ID="GeneratedImage2" ImageHandlerUrl="PhotoHandler.ashx" runat="server" Height="100" BorderWidth="1" BorderColor="Black" AlternateText="Profile Picture" >
<Parameters>
<cc2:ImageParameter Name="MyImageParameter" Value= "" />
</Parameters>
</cc2:GeneratedImage>
Everything I have tried fails. I would like to update Value in the ImageParameter from c# code behind.

I searched a lot of threads but still couldn't get my problem fixed. I have to update the "regform" table with two fields: session_ and session2. These two fields are inside the detailview edititem template which bounded to dropdown list drpsession1, drpsession2 separately. I wanted to pass the update parameters to the update sql UPDATE dbo.regform SET session_=@session_, session2=@session2 where id=@id
the @session_ is bounded to a drpsession1 and @session2 is bounded to drpsession2. I used
ControlID="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$DetailsView1$drpsession1" to access the dropdown list within the detailview, but still couldn't do the updates. What's wrong with my code? Do I have to use the code behind to specify the update parameters? and How to do it? TIA.

I have a user control, that has an update panel and update progress control in it.
I use this user control in more than 1 location on the same page.... problem is, when ucA posts back, I see the update progress control for both ucA and ucB. I assume this is because it is a user control and the update panel and progress are named the same?
Either way - how do I make it so that the update progress only displays for the proper user control?

I've exempted the irrelevant bits of code. Essentially, I am trying to change the URL of an image control inside of an update panel inside of a custom user control from a function called inside an update panel from my main page. Using UpdatePanel.Update() isn't working: I end up waiting for the next full page POST to occur before all the updates I make to CustomControl from buttons within the main page's update panel are visible. I verified that Update() was being called via the debugger: there are no issues in that department.
Here, you can see Custom Control and the Button declared. The button is in an update panel to avoid giving a full POST and causing the whole page to reload.
<cust:CustomControl runat="server" ID="CustomControl1">
<asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="UpdatePanel1"> <ContentTemplate>
<asp:Button id="Button1" runat="server" OnClick="DoStuff" />
</ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel>
This control stores images within their own seperate update panels because rerendering the images is very slow (it requires processing arrays of millions of datapoints) and the user only ever needs to modify one image at a time. I'm using Image1 as an example.

I have a question about using the update progress control. I gasp the basic use of the control - basically you can associate it to an update panel, and whenever that update panel is updated, this update progress control is displayed on the page.
I do have a couple of questions though:
1. My project uses a lot of user controls. I would like to display an update progress control that "disables" or "whitewashes" the contents of the user control - which for this example - lets say it is a gridview and a drop down list - when the user changes
the selected value of the drop down list, the grid rebinds. I want the update progress control to shadow or whitewash only that grid while it rebinds. The rest of the page should be accessible.
2. I have certain pages that I want to be locked while an update panel is updating - in otherwords, the entire page is whitewashed or shadowed out and a ajax loader gif is shown. I currently have this working with an update progress control that does not have the AssociatedUpdatePanelID property set. This appears to fire every time any update panel is updated. If I were to have one of the user controls that has an update progress control that only applies to itself - and those update panels update - which update progress would be shown?

I use Update Panel in some parts of the page and when the user click on Insert Button, I want to save all the data which is got from the Update Panel's controls. But the data from the Update Panels' controls are not saved in the database. When I debug, the data are in the textbox and hidden field, they are in the Update Panel. But they are not save in the database. Other values, which is not in Update Panel, are saved in the database.
How can I take the data from the Update Panel?
Here is some of code.

This sounds weird, but I would like to NOT update a control that's within an update panel. Is this possible? basically the way facebook works, facebook controls are rendered on a "get" command. but I have controls within the same update panel that cause AJAX postbacks. When the postback's happen, I lose my facebook server-side controls. I am wondering if I can "unregister" a control from an update panel? Or do I just have to redesign that page.

I have been in the process of updating my code with security methods, and I've been learning this from [URL](or "Security Guidelines: ASP.NET 2.0"). In the middle of the page under "When Constructing SQL Queries, Use Type Safe SQL Parameters" it says "Use type safe parameters when constructing SQL queries to avoid possible SQL injection attacks that can occur with unfiltered input".
Now, what was to use code like:
"DataSet userDataset = new DataSet();
SqlDataAdapter myCommand = new SqlDataAdapter(LoginStoredProcedure", connection);
myCommand.SelectCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
myCommand.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add("@au_id", SqlDbType.VarChar, 11);........"
But, I was already using code like:
"var dataSource = (SqlDataSource)form1.FindControl("sqlDataSource5") ;
dataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("someVal", val);"
So now, to use type safe parameters, I decided to include it like:
"var dataSource = (SqlDataSource)form1.FindControl("sqlDataSource5") ;
dataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("@someVal", DbType.Int16, val);
dataSource.UpdateParameters["@someVal"].Size = 1;"
So, that would be how I would modify my current code base to use type safe parameters in sql updating/inserting.
Getting to my actual question, as it was said "Use type safe parameters when constructing SQL queries to avoid possible SQL injection attacks that can occur with unfiltered input". First off, that this should apply to unfiltered input. Also, in their example they only did this for an ID.
So, what I'd like to know, when it comes to "unfiltered input", does this mean as long as the input is unfiltered I must use type safe parameters, or even filtered input shall have this (just to be sure), like, input that has been ran through a regularexpression check? Shall I do this for all values I insert/update into the database, or just IDs and important things?
The way I see it right now is that it would be a good precaution to just do type safe checks on everything (literally) that updates/inserts into the database just to be extra safe. But, I really am unsure if this is really the best idea, because if I did, would this possibly cause overprocessing of information? Can this cause too much strain on server resources?

I have an accordion control in my web site. And in one of the panels, I have a drop down list box where, when the user selects an item, it updates the labels right below the ddlistbox. I have it so that it maintains the scroll position when the ddlistbox has an autopostback, but it's very obvious that the whole page posts back. My question is, can I/should I just enclose the ddlistbox and the labels (and a couple of text boxes) in an AJAX update panel? I already have a ToolScriptManager (because of the accordion control), so I don't need to have another script manager, right? I can just put the update panel (with the other controls inside of it) right in the accordion panel, right? Then when the ddlistbox posts back it won't have the delay of the whole page posting back? And it'll still execute the event handler for the listbox selection change? Does this sound right? I'm just looking to make the post back "invisible", and I would like to do a partial postback of just these few controls.

I am trying to wrap my head around update tabels, the thing thats boring me is if i should use one or multiple panels. When i load a control into my update panel should that control have it's own update panel? Or will it use the updatepanel it's loaded into? Is it even possible to dynamicly load a control into an updatepanel and do async post backs from there? Let me paint you a picture:

I have 2 user controls. The first user control generates custom paging and assigns the output as a string literal. The second user control is a simple repeater which uses values from the paging control via a query string to decide which relevant chunk of data to retrn.
The custom paging control is embeded in the custom reapeater control. In my my page, I simply call the customer erpeater control and everything works treat.I now want to add update panels to this but I can't think where to start.
The paging control looka like this.

I inherited this autoextender control, and I like the way it's working. Except that when I submit my form any object that was in the list no longer comes up. For example, I type in b, and anyone in my database with the last name starting with b would appear in in a list to be selected. If I select someone, and then apply those changes back to the database, no one with the last name b will appear in the list again if I type in b.
Here's the code.

working on .net framework 3.5 with vb
I have displayed 50% of text on label control..then i have given a dynamic link to Read More.
when i clicks on Read More it passes query string of id of that content to same page which shows full content.
Now, what I want is when I clicks on Read More link the page postback then loads the full content. So, is there any way to avoid postback using update Panel for any links generated dynamically on Label control.....?

I have an interesting problem when using partial page update in asp.net with scriptmanager and a update panel.
My scenario looks like this: I'm using the tab control from the ajax toolkit. I also implemented this control using lazy loading, so that when the page is loaded only the current tab gets loaded all the other tabs don't get rendered, because Im using an UpdatePanel (on a .ascx control) on each of these tabs and when a tab gets selected the updatepanel makes a async postback to load the content for a selected tab.
On one of my tabs Im using a combobox control from obout.com, and it doesn't work. Now I know why it doesn't work. It doesn't work because the control is shown via a partial page refresh, but to correctly display the control it has to do some "magic" that is - register some .css and .js includes on the page (in the head I guess)....but because I load this control via async page refresh.

Having a bit of trouble here. I know that if you want to use a fileupload control inside an AJAX update panel then you need to create a trigger for the control that performs the uploading postback to the updatepanel, but the problem is, I have an update panel that contains web usercontrols. I therefore can't add a trigger to the control(FileUpload) directly because it exists in the web control.

I've been wrecking my brain on how to solve this but I'm all out of idea. I have a FileUpload control within an UpdatePanel. I have a button, let's call this btnSave, that saves the FileUpload.PostedFile into an sql server. What happens is that when the btnSave is clicked, I would save the file to a ViewState as well as upload it to the sql server. I also have an ImageButton, call this btnDel, that clears up the ViewState that holds the File in the viewState. This btnDel is an Asynchrounouspostback trigger to the UpdatePanel that holds the FileUpload control. If I browse a file, click on btnSave, everything would work fine. However, if I browse a file, click save, click on btnDel, browse anotherfile using FileUpload, and click save, sometimes FileUpload.PostedFile has a file and sometimes it is null. I'm really not sure what's causing this. I know that there is an issue of incompatibility if btnSave is made to be an asynchronouspostback trigger to the updatePanel. I don't see how making btnDel an asynchronouspostback trigger could affect this.
If I do take out the FileUpload control from the UpdatePanel and remove btnDel as a trigger, everything works fine except a postback is generated, which the client does not like.

I have block of code that consists of a textbox a button and a dropdown. The text entered in the text box filters the dropdownlist when the user clicks the button. The Ajax works great when it is in a simple page but if I put the same code in a User control I get flicker.
