AJAX :: Calling Update On Web User Control?
Jan 27, 2010I've got a DataGrid in an Update Panel, which is in a Web User Control that I've made.
I need to call Update() on the Update Panel from outside the User Control.
I've got a DataGrid in an Update Panel, which is in a Web User Control that I've made.

I need to update datalist in image gallery when fileupload has been completed.
<div style="display: block;">
<div>
<div style="padding-left: 15px; padding-right: 15px;">
<div>
<uc1:ctrlFileUpload ID="ctrlFileUpload1" runat="server" />
<uc2:ctrlImageGallery ID="ctrlImageGallery1" runat="server" />

In the Control File Upload I need to fire the the other ctrl to refresh the page.
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanelUploadArea" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional">
<ContentTemplate>

<asp:FileUpload ID="FileUpload1" runat="server" />

</ContentTemplate>
<Triggers>
<asp:PostBackTrigger ControlID="UploadButton" />
</Triggers>
</asp:UpdatePanel>...........
I looked up the threads about this. But I couldn't do it...
this is my method in aspx.page:
public void MesajlariGetir()
{
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection();
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("msjlarigetir", con);

I have a user control, that has an update panel and update progress control in it.
I use this user control in more than 1 location on the same page.... problem is, when ucA posts back, I see the update progress control for both ucA and ucB. I assume this is because it is a user control and the update panel and progress are named the same?
Either way - how do I make it so that the update progress only displays for the proper user control?
I've exempted the irrelevant bits of code. Essentially, I am trying to change the URL of an image control inside of an update panel inside of a custom user control from a function called inside an update panel from my main page. Using UpdatePanel.Update() isn't working: I end up waiting for the next full page POST to occur before all the updates I make to CustomControl from buttons within the main page's update panel are visible. I verified that Update() was being called via the debugger: there are no issues in that department.
Here, you can see Custom Control and the Button declared. The button is in an update panel to avoid giving a full POST and causing the whole page to reload.
<cust:CustomControl runat="server" ID="CustomControl1">
<asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="UpdatePanel1"> <ContentTemplate>
<asp:Button id="Button1" runat="server" OnClick="DoStuff" />
</ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel>
This control stores images within their own seperate update panels because rerendering the images is very slow (it requires processing arrays of millions of datapoints) and the user only ever needs to modify one image at a time. I'm using Image1 as an example.

I have 2 user controls. The first user control generates custom paging and assigns the output as a string literal. The second user control is a simple repeater which uses values from the paging control via a query string to decide which relevant chunk of data to retrn.
The custom paging control is embeded in the custom reapeater control. In my my page, I simply call the customer erpeater control and everything works treat.I now want to add update panels to this but I can't think where to start.
The paging control looka like this.

I'm new in developing and i'm in trouble with update a UpdatePanel inside a User Control from a Repeater inside another User Control.
View 3 RepliesI have block of code that consists of a textbox a button and a dropdown. The text entered in the text box filters the dropdownlist when the user clicks the button. The Ajax works great when it is in a simple page but if I put the same code in a User control I get flicker.

{
StringBuilder scriptBlock =
new
StringBuilder
();
scriptBlock.AppendLine(
"Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_pageLoaded(Elig);"
);
scriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(
this.GetType(),
"Elig", scriptBlock.ToString(),
true
);
still its not working..
i have a user control in which the cancel reset button clicks will call a javascript. this works fine when the user control is used normally...
if the usercontrol is put inside an update panel. the javascripts throw an error. "Object Excpected."
I'm having a bit of an issue in my ASP.Net application moving focus from a textbox in one user control to a text box in the next user control on the page after postback. I've searched high and low over the last several days to find a solution but, for whatever reason, have been unable to do so.
I have a page that has user controls loaded dynamically to allow a user to enter data.The number and type of user controls loaded to the page is determined at run time based on a database query.It is possible than many controls of the same type can be loaded. Each user control has its own update panel. Within the update panel of each control is a regular asp panel. Inside of the regular panel there are at least 2 server controls (any other controls that may exist in the user control are not affected by this issue) - a text box and a button.The defaultbutton property of the regular panel is set to the ID of the button within the user control. The desired behavior is to allow the user to enter data into the textbox on one user control hit enter to save the data on that user control the application will set focus to the textbox of the next user control on the page after the data from the "current" user control has been saved. Other considerations;
The application uses master pages. We make extensive use of ajax and the ajaxtoolkit in the application. I am using Visual Studio 2010 and .Net 4 The issue - when first entering the page, one can enter data into the first textbox and press the enter key. Data from "current" user control is correctly saved and focus is correctly moved to the next user control on the page.
Data can be entered into the textbox of "new" user control and when the enter key is pressed, the data is correctly save. The focus appears to move correctly to the next user control on the page.Data cannot be entered into the textbox of the control. Pressing the enter key will not save the data (because none was entered) but the focus will move to the textbox of the next user control on the page.
Data can be entered into the textbox of the user control. When the enter key is pressed, the data is correctly saved and the focus appears to move correctly to the textbox of the next control on the pageBasically, steps 3 and 4 are repeated until the end of the user controls on the page, alternating between being able to enter data and not. Other items of note When one is able to enter data into the textbox of a user control, one can correctly tab through the textboxes of each user control until the end of the page When one is not able to enter data into the textbox of a user control, pressing the tab key will take the focus to the address bar of the browser.
I created a much simplified example of the scenario described above and was able to consistently reproduce the "bad" focus behavior. All of the ajax toolkit controls and code where stripped out of the sample to rule the toolkit out as a cause. The behavior still occurs without the toolkit.
I am including the code for default.aspx and WebUserControl1.ascx.

I created a .NET user control to work as a DropdownCheckbox and added Jquery to give the sliding and hide effects. The code is as below:

This control works fine in a normal page, but once I put it inside an update panel it doesn't work. Is there a work around or simply I can't use JQuery inside update panel?
I am hosting a Windows User Control in my web page using <object> tag. Everything works fine when the control is outside the updatepanel and is independent of other web controls but when I move the control inside the update panel, it doen't load the user control properly.
<object id="myBrowser" classid="http:MyBrowser.dll#MyBrowser.UserControl1" height="20" width="400" VIEWASTEXT></object>
why it doesn't render the control properly and what can I do to fix it?
I tried moving the user control outside the update panel but since this user control is shown/hidden dynamically and is rendered based on other web controls which are inside an Update Panel, the user control is not shown at all.
Does anyone know a simple way to determine if a user control is contained in an update panel that was triggered for async postback?
At the moment, the only pseudo logic for this I can think of is?
'Loop through the update panel controls on the page and find the one that is involved in the postback (isInPartialRendering)
'Try to find the user control as a child of the update panel
i have a web page and inside the page has a placeholder that contains 2 user controls and both visible set to false.
When i click on button1 on the page, it will set the visible of usercontrol1 to true. May i know how do i do it so that when i click on button2 that IS INSIDE usercontrol1, it will hide usercontrol1 from placeholder and set usercontrol2 visible =true?
I'he created user control. that contains some register form.I want ot call that user control Dynamically when i click the button....is it posible?
View 1 RepliesI have a user control which opens a new window for some item selection. Once an item is selected on that window, the item ID should be passed to a callback javascript function in the user control. In order to have a unique callback function name in the user control (it may have multiple instances on the same page), I added the user control ID to the function name as follows (defined in the ascx file):
function OnItemSelection_<%=this.ID%>(selectedItemID)
{
OnItemSelection("<%=SomeControl.ClientID%>", selectedItemID)
}
Where OnItemSelection is defined in an external js file:
function OnItemSelection(controlID, selectedItemID)
{
$(controlID).do_something(selectedItemID);
}
The issue is that now I'm not sure how the new page can call the "right" function (of the user control instance where it was opened from). The only idea I have in mind so far is passing the name of the callback function in the query string:
var CallbackFunction = function(selectedItemID)
{
window.opener.<%=Request.QueryString["CallbackFunctionName"]%>(selectedItemID);
}
or maybe just the opening user control ID:
var CallbackFunction = function(selectedItemID)
{
window.opener.OnItemSelection_<%=Request.QueryString["UserControlID"]%>(selectedItemID);
}
My questions are:
1) Is it a bad practice passing javascript function names (or user control IDs) like that (I suspect it is)?
2) What could be better way to handle this scenario? Edit: Another way I'm considering now is declaring a global variable in the user control (registering it from the code behind so it'll appear only once). Then, when opening the new window, it's possible to assign the relevant function to it (OnItemSelection_<%=this.ID%>), and call it from the new window. Seems much cleaner than passing user control data through the query string.
i'm trying to learn about user controls. I created a user control that has a textbox and a button. What i'd like to be able to do is when i click the button in the user control, populate a label in the aspx page. I understand that i could just have a button on the page that uses some properties on the user control to get that information.. but i'd like to know how to do it with the button the user control.. the reason for this is the button is just an example.. a learning tool. if i can get this working, i'd likely be putting thing in the user control that might require this kind of passing information. Anyway.. i've found some c# examples that i tried to get working as vb.. but once started getting into the delegates and events.. well.. it made me turn to this post.
View 3 RepliesI am using a user control that I created (just a .cs file not an .ascx file), that does some magic and depending on a value generated by the control, I need it to do something on the parent page that is 'hosting' the control. It needs to call a method under certain circumstances (method is on the parent control).the control is placed on the parent page like so:
<customtag:MyControl ID="something" runat="server" />
I'm dynamically creating buttons etc on the control itself but when a button is clicked, let's say for example that there's a text box on the control and if the value of the textbox is "bob" it needs to call a method on the page that's housing the control...how can I accomplish this?
I have a Web Form that uses Master Pages. I only tell you this part so you understand the layers.
On the page, I have a web user control. I can see public methods on that user control by simply calling userControlName.PublicMethod();
However, there is a button on this page which generates additional content. This content is based on a placeholder control and adding additional web user controls :
[Code]....
Now, on the main form, I want a submit button that will call a public method of each "subForm" that was added at runtime.
I have tried various forms of Control C = This.Page.Master.FindControl("cpBody").Findcontrol("ctl01")... etc, but can never seen to get the right combination.
Below is a listing of the web form
[Code]....
Does anyone know how I would go about calling a method found in the master page code behind from a user control's code? The user control is on the master page. The method I want to call is public.
I can easily call a method found in the pages code behind using:
Page.GetType().InvokeMember("TheMethodsName", System.Reflection.BindingFlags.InvokeMethod, null, this.Page, null);
or I can call a method found on the master page from my aspx page code behind using:
((MasterPage_MasterPage)Page.Master).TheMethodsName();
But I am stuck because I can't find the MasterPage in my user control code behind.
I have a page that contains a few user controls which all use an id in a querystring. I want to change this so that the page can send the id to the user control and can call a function on the user control.
Also is it possible for the user control to get the id from the page or a control on the page as its parent?
I have an aspx page which has an usercontrol say UC1 for selecting query paramters.
UserControl uc1 in turn opens another user control (UC2) as a modal popup.
1. On OK click, I am setting the values of another usercontrol (uc1) from the control uc2 by invoking a page method(doAccept). It appears to call the method and values seems to be set. But the problem the usercontrol/page does not display the new value or in otherwords it is not refreshed.
If the above is not possible is there any other way to refresh the parent page.

I'm using a custom AJAX based validation control to check user name availability from database. It's working alright in my development machine but in production server we are using Windows Authentication to authenticate by domain.The control is inherited from base validator and checks for user name availability from database perfectly but on form submission at Page.IsValid check it gives the following error.
remote server returned an error 401 unauthorized
Both the form and webmethod are in the same page/file. I even tried creating webmethod in a separate standalone webservice but error still there.
I have a page called main.apsx and on that page I have a multiview with a couple of view panes. In main.aspx I also have an have a buttons.ascx file with a few link buttons. When these buttons are clicked I want them to show the the selected view panels in multiview in main.aspx.
I cant seem to figure out where to put the action code for the link buttons. Do I put it into my buttons.ascx.cs file or into main.aspx.cs? I presume in buttons.ascx.cs, but if I do that, how will the buttons find the multiview control?
This is the code for on of my buttons in buttons.ascx.cs
[Code]....
When I run it like this is gives an error
The name 'MultiView1' does not exist in the current
