[1] [URL] (this is a dnn website which contains a web service to be consumed in "xyz" website).
[2] [URL] (this is an asp.net website which consumes web service defined in "abc" website). That means this website is having "Web Reference" folder which contains .wsdl, .disco and .discomap types of files.
Problem is - when I see these files (.disco, .discomap and .wsdl etc files under Web Reference folder), they all are having urls defined like [URL]. That means its fix to "abc" virtual directory ?
What if end user or customer wants to purchase my application but want to have some other name like [URL] (the virtual directory to someother name).
In that case; I assume that I need to "MANUALLY" find [URL] and replace to [URL] ?
OR is there any alternate solution for that?

Nov 25, 2010Lets say I have a web service installed on ServerA. I also have a web application hosted on ServerB, completely different domain from ServerA. That web application contains a web reference to ServerA's web service, so consumes it. What happens if the WAN connection between ServerA and ServerB goes down, for whatever reason? I'm not clear if, once the web method is coded into the consuming application, that the server hosting the service has to be constantly available or not.

Feb 26, 2011I am trying to put a basic Hello World Web Service in my Go Daddy Shared hosting.
It is a basic default Hello World Web Service that Visual Studio 2010 automatically generates: it works in my local web machine: i can invoke and can see the xml.
I have transferred the Service1.asmx and the Service1.cs file( in the App_Code folder ). I can view the web service page, but I cannot invoke the web service method, and as a result I cannot see the xml file where the "Hello World" string will be in side the <string> element.
Though I can see the web service page, there is no invoke button. How will I invoke or render the content in an aspx page? As the web page has to change the name space, I have changed the namespace to my website address, but still I cannot see or do an invocation and as a result cannot see the generated xml. My question is
1) what should I do so that I can see the return xml value from the web service?
2) what should I do so that I can render the data of the web service in a web page ( for example, in mywebservicepage.aspx)?

Mar 17, 2011I've got a WCF web service that runs fine at the moment but there is talk about using it very heavily soon. As part of it's normal process it writes a file out, then reads it back in again (don't ask why, I know it's stupid). I'm concerned that if we start hitting it with lots of requests then the following might happen.
1. Request 1 writes the file out.
2. Request 2 comes in and overwrites the file.
3. Request 1 reads the file back in but this is now the wrong file.
My understanding is that the requests would naturally queue up so that request 2 wouldn't start until request 1 had finished, but I'm not totally sure.

It always return javascript undefined error. But if I put the AJAX_Test webmethod in aspx page and replace the url: "CustomValidate.asmx/AJAX_Test" to "mypage.aspx/AJAX_Test". It works fine.

Mar 12, 2010 I am getting "Access Denied" error when I am trying to write a file on my hard drive (C:/.... xmls/test.xml) from a webservice which is also on my local machine.
The folder structure is like this
AdminApp (Web Folder on C drive)
- WebServices Folder
- TestService.asmx
-Xmls Folder
- Test.xml
I tried following settings in IIS in my efforts to resolve the issue:
- Set anonynmous access checked with my account name and password under "Account Used for anonymous access" alongwith integrated windows authentication checked. I am a admin on my machine.
- Disabled anonymous access with only integrated windows authentication checked. I have identity impersonate = true set in my web.config.

Oct 5, 2010I wrote a small web service (asmx) to write stuff to a file on the server. It works fine when run in the VS2008 test container. But when I run it under IIS on a remote machine, I get:
System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path 'y:grahammiscprops.txt'.
'y' is a mounted drive on both the test and remote machines. The path really does exist. It works on the test machine; not remotely. So:
Is it the fact that 'y' is a mounted drive causing it to fail remotely? or Is it the fact the the path lies outside of the web application directory structure? Is there something I should put in web.config??; or
Is something else the problem? I would have thought that the service running on the server could do anything it wanted! It's not denying me access to the file; it's saying it can't find it??!!

May 26, 2010I have a large web application that uses File.Exists() in a global file utility class flawlessy for several years now. I just built a new ASMX web service that calls that same method in our file utility class, and it returns False for the same exact file paths that are being passed in the web application. The paths are absolute system file paths, and they match on both the web service and the web app.I am confused... Why might this happen? The method I am talking about is only a few lines of code. A couple of lines simply validate the file id parameter being sent into the method. The last remaining line is this:

The previous line of code calls another method that uses a String.Format to insert the file id into the file path. That's it.
