ASP.NET: Windows Authentication Against Production Server?
Feb 1, 2011
This is a real quick question, is it possible to allow Windows Authentication for an ASP.Net intranet site (on a test server) to authenticate against the production server user accounts? If so, how would I go about doing so.

I am working on the migration of the server. Our new server is Windows server 2008 with IIS7.0 I have a great difficulty in browsing the pages hosted in virtual directories. I have followed the proper steps of creating a virtual directories and converting them into applications. But when i try to browsing the pages of the virtual directory, i get the 404 error. Note: The .Net Framework 4.0 is installed on the server and the web applications which i am trying to configure in the virtual directories are developed in Visual Studio 3.0. Even the http://localhost also don't work.

I've never had this problem before, I'm at a total loss.
I have a SQL Server 2008 database with ASP.NET Forms Authentication, profiles and roles created and is functional on the development workstation. I can login using the created users without problem.
I back up the database on the development computer and restore it on the production server. I xcopy the DLLs and ASP.NET files to the server. I make the necessary changes in the web.config, changing the SQL connection strings to point to the production server database and upload it.
I've made sure to generate a machine key and it is the same on both the development web.config and the production web.config.
And yet, when I try to login on the production server, the same user that I'm able to login successfully with on the development computer, fails on the production server.
There is other content in the database, the schema generated by FluentNHibernate. This content is able to be queried successfully on both development and production servers.

I want to import a DLL (built on VC) in asp.net, and I have a major problem in PRODUCTION Box (IIS 7 and Windows 2008 server). First: I want to say that this DLL works fine in my DEV Box with web application written in C#, and my development server (Win XP SP 3, .NET Framework 3.5 and IIS6). But when I upload my code (web application code + DLL) in PRODUCTION Box (IIS 7 and Windows 2008 server). Web application doesn't work with DLL any more. I am sure that Asp.net knows this DLL well, and if it did'nt recognize it would give me an error, but my problem is that my DLL does'nt works proprely when I run it in IIS 7 under Windows 2008 server. Do you know any solution ? Can it be something with the IIS 7 permissions?

I have a web application set up on our intranet that uses windows authentication (successfully) that I am trying to link to a database running on a separate server.
The problem that I am having however, is that when I try to use a trusted connection to log in to the sql server, instead of passing the domain/username of the person using the website the application is passing NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON.
I checked that the authentication was working by having the website display a greeting that does identify my username correctly when I log on to the site, so it isn't an anonymous access issue. I think it is an impersonation issue somehow despite the fact that set in the web.config file for the application.
Curiously, the web application works fine when I run it on either my dev machine or even locally through remote desktop on the production server. I'm not sure what's going on here.
Finally, I'm running iis 7.5, windows server 2008 r2 and sql server 2008

I have IIS 7 windows server 2008 R2 64 bit on which I have few web sites which are sending emails thorugh asp.net. Each web site has seperate "From Address (used inside the code)".
In IIS 6.0 mananger >> Delivery Tab >> Out bound security >>I gave Integrated windows authentication for one account (Let us say abc).
When the emails are firing from different applications, the emails are going only if the from address is abc mentioned in the authentication. If any other email address is used then it is going to bad mail folder saying "Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 5.7.1 Client
does not have permissions to send as this sender".So to make it work I have changed the authentication to anonymous then again the emails are going to bad mail with "Diagnostic-Code: smtp;530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated" error.

My site is hosted in IIS6, Windows Server 2003 and i have full access to the server.

I have an ASP.Net app, that runs using windows authentication. The connection to the SQL Server is usually done by creating a sql server account and using that in the connection string.
However, in this specific very restrictive hosting environment, we have been asked to use a specific WINDOWS/active directory account to connect to the SQL Server.
note it is not the windows credentials of the user of the website, we need to connect to the SQL server with - it is one specific windows/AD account.
How do I configure that in my connection-string?

I'm using VS 2010 RTM and SQL Server 2008 on my clean development laptop, running Windows 7 Pro.
Using Visual Studio's Server Explorer, I can easily do an Add Connection by simply right-clicking, and then completing the dialog, and choosing "Use Windows Authentication". I can then click the button "Test Connection".
However, if I wish to do an Add Connection, and then choose "Use SQL Server Authentication", I get a message "Login failed for user 'appSlir'", as shown here:
When I try the same thing on my other development machine, which is VS 2008, SQL Server 2008, and Windows XP Pro, it works fine.
There seems to be a problem/bug that prevents Add Connection with "Use SQL Server Authentication" to SQL Server 2008, when running on Windows 7 Pro.

I'm trying to enable automatic Window authentication working on our ASP.NET Intranet. I've changed the Authentication on our IIS 7.5 server from Anonymous to Windows Authentication Enabled only, and changed the Web.config file for the website to:
<authentication mode="Windows" />
<authorization>
<deny users="?" />
</authorization>
The Windows login box appears when accessing the website via IE 8, I enter valid credentials, but the login window keeps reappearing as if it does not accept my credentials. By repeatedly cancelling the login box it disappears, and my login name can be viewed on the website. Is there any possible reason for the login box to keep popping up even though valid credentials are being entered? I've restarted the servers / cleared browser cache etc. Also, ideally I would like the user to enter the login details once in the login box and not be required to reenter login details whenever he reopens the browser.

I have a web application (intranet based) which uses Windows Authentication. Unfortunately there are public computers that have public logins at some company locations. My web app doesn't support these public logins because I need to know the user workingSo, even though these public users are windows authentication users, my app will fail because I have no user account setup for that particular account. I want to then try Active Directory Authentication.In my Default.aspx.cs I'd have something like this
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{try
userContext = new UserContext(); // If the authenticated user isn't a user in my system then throw an exception
}
[code]...

We have a working version of application (Intranet) with uses Windows Authentication deployed in Windows 2003. The application uses HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name to get the logged-in user. Here impersonate is turned off.Right now, we are move to Windows 2008 RC2 where this Windows Authentication problem arised. I have Digest Authentication and Windows Authentication enabled. And also I have enabled Anonymous Authentication enabled to avoid the Login dialog of IIS in the end-user IE. Now I am getting HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name as Empty. When I impersonate using username and password, I am used to login using that user but all the users uses the same user to login.Does any has solution for this?Deployment Server - Windows 2008 RC2 (IIS 7.5)Development - Windows 7 (IIS 7.5)I am new to IIS 7.5. Please give me a solution
