I have a page with a partialview on it which is a list of items. I have a button on it which shows the next 5 items.

My question is that I need the 'page' variable to increment each time someone presses the form button which is contained within the partialview.
How do I keep track of that variable?
I am developing an application that will have 200+ sessions at any given time. I am also relatively new at asp.net development. This application will be hosted on a remote server along with its SQL Server 2008 database. Each session will constantly use SQL select, update, insert, and delete commands. Do you think it would matter if I used server-side logic to perform all the SQL commands, passing parameters back and fourth? Or should I do some more research on client-side database manipulation? Would it be too much load if i used strictly server-side?

I have a modal popup that displays detail info based on a grid view selection. The SELECT requires a id and a year. The year is displayed in a drop downon the main page and the popup seems to be able to read it OK. BUt the ID is part of the grid view and I am not usre how to pass it to the popup.

I thought that I would set theID in the lnkRank_Click event, but the code seemd to pop the modal without ever going to that event.

I can set a debug break on this method and it never hits it. So, somehow clicking the image button does trigger the popup but does not set the text field to the desired ID. How is this supposed to work?

I put a break point inside MyWebMethod. When I invoke this call on the page, the break point never gets hit. It works fine when I remove all parameters from MyWebMethod's signature and pass in '{}' from JS as parameters. Once I try to pass in a string parameter, it stops working.
(I think) with using a data bound Custom Control on the server to get hold of my data (it will be part of a larger dataset) and to ultimately pass updates to the database. The bit I'm researching at the moment is passing that data to and from the client.One way to pass the data to the client is to use JSON within the Pageload event to construct a set of Javascript objects (one per row in the data). Is that the best way, or am I missing something?
Then, after the data has been manipulated on the client, I need to pass the rows back again so that the server side code can pick them up and process the updates. I've seen a suggestion on here that a hidden text field is one way to do that. I have site that I need to have a vendor send an Http Post to us, using querystring parameters, then I have to look up some data and return a few results and parameters back to them. Can this be done using CLASSIC ASP? I ask this because I am still in a learning phase with .NET and have limited resources available to set up a web service.

The Gridview is binded to a SQLDatasource object, and the Select query is something like "SELECT field_1, field_2, field_3, field_4 FROM Table_Name WHERE field_1 LIKE '%@Parameter_2%'".This ModalPopup is used (or gonna be used) to search for a field, so the parameters received by the Query is the text inside the Textbox, I've linked thid inside the SQLDataSource Wizard.The problem is that everything works perfectly fine... inside the panel WITHOUT the ModalPopup Extender, but whe I add the Extender the filter function doesn't work.Here is my code:

Notes: I have a ScriptManager inside the MasterPage, so I don't have to insert one in every page. Also I've tested the code in a new page (the one I use for testing), and it works fine, it filters and everything, the problem is when I add a ModalPopup to the panel.
I have a view that gets posted back to my controller and I can call updatemodel pass in the FormCollection and everything in the view gets updated and works great etc... The problem is, this view contains several PartialViews that I just can't seem to get the UpdateModel helper to update. All this stuff is strongly typed, I mean my overall viewmodel has properties that expose the data to my partialviews.
(just for clarity see below code, "Model" has a property called "AreaListViewModel", which has a property called Areas. "AreaList" is the partialview/usercontrol).

I'm convinced it is either something to do with the way I add the data to my partialview, ike HtmlTextBoxFor syntax. OR the UpdateModel syntax. As mentioned I get my form data back as a "FormCollection".

In this answer to my question of how to insert data into SQL Server he mentioned passing parameters instead of string concatenation like I currently have.
Is this really necessary for security? If so, what exactly is passing parameters? When i google it I get a lot about stored procedures. Is that what I want, I do not know about stored procedures....yet.

Ok, here is what I got. It seems to update the database correctly and eventually I will change the hard coded ints to inputs from a label. confirm if how I did this is not vulnerable to any sql injection or hacks.

I am creating a DataSet to attach to a report (*.rdlc). In the DataSet is a TableAdapter that has the GetData(@start, @end) function. on the first page (tourpack.aspx) i have a datalist, when user clicks on a button that is in the templateitem of the datalist, he will be transfered to another page called (showtour.aspx). what im trying to do is passing the ID parameter from the first page (table 1) to the second page (showtour.aspx) with the id number so he can see the specific details of that "tour" that are located In the second table.
