.net - Approach For Replacing Forms Authentication In .NET Application
Dec 24, 2010
My question is about an approach, and I am looking for tips or links to help me develop a solution. I have an .NET 4.0 web forms application that works with Forms authentication using the aspnetdb SQL database of users and passwords. A new feature for the application is a new authentication mechanism using single sign on to allow access for thousands of new users. Essentially, when the user logs in through the new single-sign-on method, I will be able to identify them as legitimate users with a role I will have something like HttpContext.Current.Session["email_of_authenticated_user"] (their identity) and HttpContext.Current.Session["role_of_authenticated_user"] (their role).
We have lot of application parameters for each module in a C# .NET 4 ASP website. parameter examples: timeouts, formulae constants, thread limits per module, $ charges per usage etc. What is best out of following approaches we know: Use DB config table Use an xml. load that xml into local cache on start (and on xml change) simple constants.cs file with public const int XYZ = 123; type of key-value pairs. web.config (though i think its mostly for deployment type of config)
I am developing a CMS application. Its a very huge deep and with full of configurable features. Current, I am developing it using Asp.net C#, form authentication and by creating UserControls.
There are lot of configurable items need to decide at run time as per user roles and some rules are predefined and some will be defined by Admin at runtime. The all information is stored in DB. I am getting lot of issues with USerControls. I consulted with some other guys who told my approach is wrong, I should go through DB data fetching. I really don't understand what is it? It is something like my all pages will be stores in Database and will construct at runtime and display as per rights?
I am using asp.net 2.0. I have been using asp.net membership provider for user management. But I think this would be more efficient if I could do this without using role and membership provider provided in asp.net.In fact I see bulky markups generated when I add login control, createuser control etc. in an asp.net web page.By saying user management, I am referring to the overall login, user activity tracking, password reset/retrieval, role management in an asp.net web application. And I want to implement efficient way to accomplish this.
Well i want to know how many architecture approaches we can use in asp.net web application. i was asked about it. i told him that i use a appcode for dal and bal and the presentation layer. but he was not convince. basically i want to ask what web application architecture an asp.net web application guru would use keeping in mind the different metrics ( i am talking minus web services or any SOA thing)
It is working fine in my local machine but when I deploy on my server then it is not working.is it any iss setting or something else.. what I need to do for this.below is web.config code and local machine having IIS 6.0 and Server having IIS 7.0
Previously, I have implemented two separate ASP.NET Web Applications, one as a virtual application in a subfolder of the other, which successfully shared forms authentication as described at [URL]
(basically, setting up identical <forms> sections in the Web.config, and keys in the <machineKey> section)
Now, I am trying to do something similar to get BlogEngine.NET (which is a Web Site, not a Web Application) to work sharing forms authentication with a Web Application of mine. I have tried both putting it as a virtual application in a subfolder, and setting it up as a separate IIS site (same domain name, different port number), but I can't get the authentication to work at all: when I go to the blog while logged in to my Web Application, Page.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated is always still "false".
I'm really not sure how to even start debugging this, since the forms authentication is handled before any of my code runs.
I have a web app containing a silverlight application. How do I keep the ASP.NET session / Forms Authentication alive when the user is using the silverlight application?
We're developping an application that uses forms authentication and URL rewriting (www.urlrewriter.net). In order to make extension-less URL rewriting possible we had to add a default application mapping for the asp.net aspnet_isapi.dll.
The problem we're experiencing now is that when the website is accessed by http://www.myapp.com/ then the aspnet_isapi.dll gets the request and forms authentication forwards it to our login site, so the user gets redirected to http://www.myapp.com/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f instead of having default.aspx displayed (which is allowed to anyone).
Here's the part of web.config dealing with forms auth:
I did quite some research on this problem but didn't find any solution. Is this scenario possible at all, or does default application mapping and forms auth using <deny users="?"/> interfere by design?
P.S. the problems only manifest when running on IIS 6, the ASP.net Development Server handles it without any problems
I am collecting information and sending an email confirmation on form-submit. I want to find any instances of SSNs in the body of the email and replace the beginning digits with "X". I'm trying to use a regex to find/replace:
we are migrating existing windows form application to asp.net(3.5) intranet portal, there is a requirement whereby database connection should be made by the logged in windows user. Is it possible to achieve this functionality?
I'm developing a MVC2 application and using Forms Authentication on it. The scripts, images and styles are all blocked to unlogged users and, consequently, the login page looks awful. It works well local, the problem is when I publish to the server. Does anyone has any idea WHY? The server IIS is version 7.5
I am looking to implement a Wizard for my Web Form, please could somebody give me suggestions as to which approach would be best jQuery or ASP.NET Wizard control? give links describing the implementation, if possible.
what i am trying to achieve is that. when any of the links is clicked. the <a href> tags are replaced by <span> tags. Is this possible? i tried playing aroung with HtmlGenericControl class but i could not solve it.
- During client registration, the password must be client side encrypted with SHA1 algorithm and stored in the DB
I have done that before using javascript on the client side. But it was a non MVC web app. I know I can use js again, but I'm trying to find a better approach.Using https or not is not depending on our development side, so we can not change the requirement.
I have a web app that presents a list of statements pulled from the db to be ranked from "Never" to "Always" using a radioButtonList.
Some of the assessments have up to 100 statements, so I'm thinking that a ListView with paging and a RequiredFieldValidator for the radioButtonList would keep the presentation manageable.
I would like to submit the data after all of the pages are complete but I think that would require customization, or is my approach wrong?
Obviously with .replace I get [URL] 3 2 1 > 1 and so on... I am thinking of contructing a two dimensional Array where myArray[0][0] will be the first match like myArray[URL][0] the second element the second match. myArray[URL][1] and so on. So then I would iterate through the second dimension of the array. Will this work? I am thinking that it won't...
Is there something fairly simple, even with javascript, to replace a line break in a text area with a <br /> when it gets submitted to a database? Right now I have a button that just will add in the tag to do it, but I'd much rather have it be automated to make the user less hassled to put that in themsevles. That, and it would make things just that much faster.
Even if there was something to put each section in a <p> tag, but that's not entirely necessary, the <br /> seems like it would be the easier method.
I'm using MS SQL server and c# if that makes a difference.
I want to search a gridview....For eg: If the gridview has three columns col1,col2 and col3 and it contains 3 rows of values(a,b,c,.....), I want to search a particular column for a particular value..For eg: If col1 contains value 'a', I want to replace 'a' with another value 'a1'..
I have a web application that will be used by the public. This application has a login credentials requirement.
I don't want to create yet another site that you have to create a custom username/password combination unless you really want too. I would like to support 3rd party logins like Facebook, Twitter, etc...
In the end this website could run in the Azure cloud as well so I am open to anything special to that.
One thing to note is the Microsoft Membership Provider that is part of ASP.NET is a great way to have custom login/passwords with a nice integration into MVC code. What I would love is that Provider opened up to allow 3rd party logins.
I have seen some articles about different types of authentication in online. But i have not used any thing particular.I build a web application that user can register and login an after that.In that application when the user comes to loginpage and enter the user name and password and on click of the login button, the validation is done against the data in DataBase. So i am not getting the any idea of form level authentication with the user details in the webconfig file. For what type of applications we use this type of authentication. Can anybody help to get an idea about this authentication.
