App_theme Not Adding Styles To Web Page?
Feb 26, 2011
I have a web site project that uses an App_theme folder for styles. When I run the site the styles are not applied to the site. What is going on?It works on other developers computers, but they are using a local IIS 7 server whereas I am using the built in Visual Studio IIS. Note - the site is setup using a web site project (not application).

how I could add a styles drop down to the Ajax Editor? I've created CSS styles (such as H1, H2, etc), but how can I add these as options for the user to select from the editor?

I know placing all your styles in a CSS file is the best thing to do as it is a lot neater.
But does it REALLY matter if the styles are inline or in a CSS?
Edit below
My plan is to just place the styles in my MasterPage and all other pages will use the MasterPage....I believe the correct term is not "INLINE" but Embedded?

I have seen numerous posts with this problem, however none of the solutions have worked for me. I am using asp.net 4.0 forms authentication. I have the following set in my config file.
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="~/Account/Login.aspx" />
</authentication>
<authorization>
<deny users="?"/>
</authorization>
The login.aspx page uses a master page and styles in a stylesheet located in a folder off the root directory called 'Styles'. I have also add the following to my config file.
<location path="~/Styles">
<system.web>
<authorization>
<allow users = "*"/>
</authorization>
</system.web>
</location>
When the page displays, the login page displays with the master page content, however all of the styles are missing. When I embed styles into the master page the styles show properly, so I know the problem is that the styles are not being accessed from the file. how I can authorize access to the stylesheet?

Has anyone had any issues when updating a CSS file (app created from C# Application Web Site in VS2010) and not having the changes be reflected in the browser, but you can see them in the dev env? I've tried clearing cache and rebooting... After a while of trying to set a background image to .header (which shows up in the dev env) something crazy happens to my Default.aspx and I can't get any styles applied. I'm at a loss right now...

I'm working on a web application that uses ASP.NET 3.5 and C#. Structurally, I have a master page with a menu control on it. The control serves as my navigation, and it gets its items from a SiteMapDataSource control and a corresponding Web.sitemap file.
The problem is that some styles do not render properly when you specify the CssClass property. More specifically, the selected and hover styles don't respond to css styles. Consider the code below:
[code]....
any insight into what is causing this problem and how to neatly work around it? I'm aware I might be able to programmically determine the current page and select the corresponding menu item manually so it receives the proper style class, but before I resort to hacking C# and Javascript together to fix this functionality.

Is there a way to stop someone from looking into the App_Themes folder, by putting it into the url, like this:
http://localhost/myapp/app_themes/
same with app_data, can those be blocked, i didn't try app_data as i don't have anything in there, but just curious, as app_themes I was able to get into. Is this an IIS setting I need to adjust?

The Stylesheet in the App_Theme folder gets cached in the browser. What should be the approach? so that whenever there is a new deployment the browser should take the latest stylesheets and not the one cached in the browser.
This was happening for other css(which are not in theme folder) too, so used custom control as mentioned in the link
[URL]
How this could be done for the CSS in the Theme folder?
Edit: The theme name is mentioned in the web.config as mentioned below. so its not just the html link tag which I had solved by using the method mentioned in the link.
<pages styleSheetTheme="Default">
<controls>
</controls>
</pages>

I have a simple web app project in Visual Studio 2010 (converted from 2008 project). For some reason when I publish the app, Visual Studio doesn't copy the App_Theme -folder to the publish destination folder. This will cause the app to fail when deployed to production environment.
App_Theme is considered as "system" folder by VS (shown as grey), which means that I can't manually set it's publish properties.
how to get VS to copy App_Theme -folder when deploying?

I insert this block of html/css/jquery into my page - in Safari and FireFox it works fine, but in IE 7/8 at about the 8th block of this the Style and some Jquery fx doesnt seem to catch; it is exactly the same as my other code, no mods in the ones that arent catching. It is just inserted in a column in my table on my page, actually the literal is there in the column, my literal.Text outputs blocks of:

My master page looks like:
<head runat="server">
<title>
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="PageTitlePlaceHolder" runat="server" />
</title>
Content pages look like:
<asp:Content ID="TitleContent1"
ContentPlaceHolderID="PageTitlePlaceHolder" runat="Server">
My Page
</asp:Content>
This works by placing the content page specific title on the page ("My Page" in this example). Now I want to add a global prefix to the title in my master page for the site name. So I want:
<head runat="server">
<title>
Example.com:
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="PageTitlePlaceHolder" runat="server" />
</title>
However, when I do this content pages are still rendered without "Example.com" in the tile, it's like it's ignored.
Why is this happening and how can I achieve this?

Ok, so I'm adding linkbuttons to a page dynamically on page_load.I had it to where the link buttons were redirecting to a page with a query string attached. I was attempting to use the AjaxToolKit's AjaxFileUploader and ran into issues with existing query strings.
So what I'm trying to do now is handle the click event of the linkbutton server side, set 2 session variables and then redirect the page to the same page, but with out appending a querystring so the ajaxfileuploader will work correctly.Here is my linkbutton code:
vb Code:
Dim Lin As New LinkButton
Lin.Text = dr("DeptDesc").ToString
Lin.CssClass = "deptlink"
Lin.ToolTip = CDate(dr("MeetingDate").ToString).ToFileTime.ToString
'Lin.OnClientClick
[code]....
I know I have Lin.PostBackURL and Lin.setAttribute(...). It didn't work with just setAttribute and I saw a post online about someone setting the PostBackURL and it working...

I come from a windows dev environment so the web makes me feel like a big dummy.
I am using VS2008, VB.NET, 3.5 Framework, ASP.NET, AjaxControlToolkit.
I have included a screen shot that might help to look at while you read my attempt to explain my issue below!
I just recently discovered in a book here on my desk how to interact with a master page programmatically from a nested master page or a regular aspx child page. The method they describe makes sense and is familar to me because they use Public Properties on the master page to manipulate the GUI and controls on the master page. But since they are public, the child pages can see them and fire them off. Makes sense.
I thought I could use this method to do the opposite of that and have the master page fire off something (say a public property in a nested page) to have it then do some work and update things on that nested page.
For example,
I have a MASTERPAGE.MASTER. Under that, I have a LEFTNAV.MASTER (so its a nested master page). Then, under that I have my default.aspx page.
(I did that so that for some of my regular aspx pages I could just tie them directly to the master page so that they dont have a left navigation page...like for big charts or graphs, etc. Is that the best way for that by the way?)
So on the masterpage, I have just a simple asp.net search textbox and an asp.net search button. When they type something in and click search, I want it to add a tab to the AJAXControlToolkit - TabPanel that I have on the default.aspx page, then some other things such as update a datagridview there with the search results.
I can do all of this except the event firing and scope. I cannot see a way to make a button on the master page up top fire off an event that is on the default.aspx page to make it do what it needs to do.
What I tried doing was creating a public property on my default.aspx page. I have some actual code in the SET to do some GUI manipulation and change some stuff on the page. But on my master page within the search button's click event, I cannot see where to call this public property on the default.aspx page...

I have the following HTML.
<ul>
<li>
<a>asdas</a>
</li>
</ul>
In my CSS stylesheet I have general settings for the a tag, and several hundered lines later settings for ul li a.
Like this:
a:link
{
color: red;
}
...
ul li a
{
color:blue;
}
Firebug tells me, that first the color:blue is loaded, and afterwards overriden by color:red
So far I've always thought, that the order of loading css files and the order of style inside a single css file tell the browser how html elements should be formatted. Unfortunately I'm now experiencing it vice versa. how must I correct my style to achieve the a tag inside the li to be rendered blue and not red?

Does anyone have experience of either creating stylesheets/themes on the fly from a database or else access the style properties of say a label control and changing these based on database values?
Im basically trying to give my users the ability to modify any one part of the design of the website while stroing these choices in a database - for example they may like a red heading.
Im happy with the solution I have for the database but was wondering if I should attach these values programatically to each individual element or dynamically produce a complete stylesheet as the page loads.
