View 1 Replies I just upgraded to VS 2010 and MVC 2.0 and I noticed the web.config has two additional files attached to it? Are these files used to specify debug and release specific settings, so you don't clutter up the main web.config?
Does it even make sense to place a connection string in the root web.config file if I have have a local and remote one in the debug and release web.configs respectively.
I have a text file (test.txt) which contains n number of data like:
1234778
4567444
8970451
1212455
testhsdd
weresdfy
.
.
.
etc
I need to fetch first 75 data or lines and insert in the sql table. Again next 75 data or lines and insert in the sql table. Again next 75 data or lines and insert in the sql table until it finish all.How i can do it in ASP.NET with C#
I am trying to achieve a SSO implimentation across my websites so i am using the machine key attribute to do so.now the trouble starts here as the website the user logs in is on the .net 1.1 framework and the website it it navigating to is .net 4.0.I have share the same machine-key across both the application . It works fine in my testing environment but as i move to the deployment server ,it just dosent work !So what i could do is read this article on MSDN :
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/eb0zx8fc.aspx
this tells me to add a domin attribute like below
<forms loginUrl="~Login.aspx" defaultUrl="Default.aspx" protection="All" timeout="80" name=".ASPXAuth" domain="asbc.com"/>
but this thing just dosent work on the 1.1 application and throws an error Unrecognized attribute 'domain'.
Where do i get to mention the domin in my 1.1 application.?
When I want to build my website it complains the web.debug.config file cannot be copied.I can't find this file, how can I restore it?I do have a web.config file!
View 2 RepliesI am getting an error in my web.config which says missing required attribute 'name' and the following excerpt is displayed:

I am migrating from IIS6 to IIS7, and IIS6 was fine with this. I already made one change (system.web to system.webServer) and I don't know what's wrong with it now.
I'm creating a MVC application where the first item in the Url is a parameter (location) - not a controller or action. So my routes look like {location}/{controller}/{action}
There are items that require authorization to access so the person needs to login. But how can I set up my loginurl so that I can reflect this set up : {location}/account/login
It seems you can't add parameters like this to the loginUrl attribute in the web.config, so how would I got about setting something like this up?
I want to debug EditPanel.debug.js file of HTML Editor, but it never shows in VS 08 and Im sure it executes to that line.What I did to enable debuggingUnchecked both 2 checkboxes for disabling the debugging
Set ScriptMode="Debug"
Change following line
[ClientScriptResource("AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor.EditPanel", "AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor.EditPanel.js")]
to
[ClientScriptResource("AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor.EditPanel", "AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor.EditPanel.debug.js")]
Is it possible to make some values in my Web.Config file dependent on whether I am building a release or debug based ASP.NET application?
View 3 RepliesI really like the new transformation feature for the web.config. It seems to work when I do "Build deployment package" but not when I just want to locally start the debugging using the green arrow. It just uses the web.config without processing theWeb.Debug.config. I can prove that because in web.config I have debug="false" with a transformation in Web.Debug.config so that it gets true but everytime VS asks if it should modify the web.config to enable debugging which it should've done automatically with the following transformation:
[Code]....
Am I missing something here? I used to work with NAnt to modify/create the web.config as a pre-build event but I thought that I wouldn't need it anymore. Am I wrong? The project is a freshly created asp.net mvc 2 web application.
how can I access the following settings in the web.config through code? Cheers
<compilation debug="true">
<authorization>
<allow roles="MyGroups" />
<deny users="*" />
</authorization>
I have the following defaultmembership provider in my web.config
<add name="UmbracoMembershipProvider" type="umbraco.providers.members.UmbracoMembershipProvider" enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="false" requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false" defaultMemberTypeAlias="Another Type" passwordFormat="Hashed" />
I am trying to update the enablePasswordReset from false to true programmatically but am struggling.. This is as far as I got!
ConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration(Request.ApplicationPath);
var section = (MembershipSection)config.GetSection("system.web/membership");
var defaultProvider = section.DefaultProvider;
var providerSettings = section.Providers[defaultProvider];
// Now what?
I have one web.config in my website.Suppose i have a setting attribute as Righttoleft=false; in web.config file.I have a BasePage.cs all pages are derived from it.I am setting this Righttoleft=false; or true; programatically in Basepage.cs based on some condition and save it to web.config.I have a dropdown and based on the items selected from dropdown, for some items my web.config file saves with Righttoleft=false; and for some it saves with Righttoleft=true;
View 2 RepliesIs there any way of doing something like this?
<location path="/(view|edit)post.aspx?id=[7-9][0-9]+">
<system.web>
<authorization>
<allow roles="AdminPublishers"/>
<deny users="*"/>
</authorization>
</system.web>
</location>
Authorization is just an example. I would like to be able to do other things with those locations.
I want to add/edit available siteMap providers in web.config file from code behind.
I am using the siteMap providers currently in the application web.config in a format given below:
<siteMap>
<providers>
<add siteMapFile="~/App_Themes/MyAppDefault/MySiteMap.sitemap"
name="MyAppDefault" type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider" />
</providers>
</siteMap>
This is allowing my application user to show up a different Site Map as and when the theme is changed.
But when I tried to do the same with the following code I faced with an issue.
configuration = WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration("~")
section = CType(configuration.GetSection("system.web/siteMap"), SiteMapSection)
Dim provider As New ProviderSettings()
If Not section Is Nothing Then
provider.Name = txtError.Text
provider.Type = "System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider"
section.Providers.Add(provider)
configuration.Save()
End If
This code is not allowing a provider.siteMapFile property (provideer is the ProviderSettings object).
As well the maximum possible way I can add a new SiteMap provider in web.config is as follows
<siteMap>
<providers>
<add name="MyAppCustom" type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider" />
</providers>
</siteMap>
If anybody can suggest a way for me to add/edit the 'siteMapFile' attribute of the provider.
I have an asp.net (3.5) web application.In one page i use an unmanaged C library (a simulator) that produces a set of results based on some input. When i've set the debug="false" in web.config (Release mode) that call will result in a System.AccessViolationException. If i am in the debugger, or at least set debug="true" in web.config, that exception will never appear.Because of the nature of the bug i placed the call inside a try-catch to log the exception and then the exception does not appear!
Is there some magical work on protected memory space when in debug mode and/or in a try-catch?
I am using ASP.NET MVC 3 and am trying to do something that should be really straight forward...
My application uses Forms authentication and that is working perfectly for controllers/actions. For example if I decorate either a controller or an action with the attribute below only members of the administrators group can view them:
[Authorize(Roles="Administrators")]
However I have a folder under the default Scripts folder called Admin. I only want members of the Administrators group to be able to access scripts within this directory so I created a new web.config in the directory with the following inside:
[code]....
However no matter whether a user is a member of the Administrators group or not they receive a 302 Found message and are then redirected to the login page.
If I change the web.config to allow user="*" then it works. It also works if I add an allow users="Username" for a specific user I am testing with.
On my web form, I have a RadioButtonList nested within a ListView as follows:

Debug-Start Debugging/Debug-StartWithoutDebugging OR Project ASP.Net Configuration launches Dreamweaver. It started lastnight, I had both Deamweaver and VWD 2008 express open at the same time - (I was looking at JQuery in the Microsoft and Dreamweaver enviroments simultaniously). After the first tie this happened, I closed down Dreamweaver (CS3) and it opened when I tried to run my VWD project. I reinstalled VWD 2008 express, IIS and disabled Dreamweaver (renamed the exe). Dreamweaver still came up.
