MVC :: Add Parameters Like To The LoginUrl Attribute In The Web.config

Mar 30, 2010

I'm creating a MVC application where the first item in the Url is a parameter (location) - not a controller or action. So my routes look like {location}/{controller}/{action}

There are items that require authorization to access so the person needs to login. But how can I set up my loginurl so that I can reflect this set up : {location}/account/login

It seems you can't add parameters like this to the loginUrl attribute in the web.config, so how would I got about setting something like this up?

Regular Expression On Web.config Location Path Attribute (with Parameters)?

Jun 30, 2010

Is there any way of doing something like this?

<location path="/(view|edit)post.aspx?id=[7-9][0-9]+">
<system.web>
<authorization>
<allow roles="AdminPublishers"/>
<deny users="*"/>
</authorization>
</system.web>
</location>

Authorization is just an example. I would like to be able to do other things with those locations.

Web Forms :: How To Edit 'siteMapFile' Attribute Of SiteMap Provider In Web.config Dynamically

Dec 13, 2010

I want to add/edit available siteMap providers in web.config file from code behind.

I am using the siteMap providers currently in the application web.config in a format given below:

<siteMap>
<providers>
<add siteMapFile="~/App_Themes/MyAppDefault/MySiteMap.sitemap"
name="MyAppDefault" type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider" />
</providers>
</siteMap>

This is allowing my application user to show up a different Site Map as and when the theme is changed.

But when I tried to do the same with the following code I faced with an issue.

configuration = WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration("~")
section = CType(configuration.GetSection("system.web/siteMap"), SiteMapSection)
Dim provider As New ProviderSettings()
If Not section Is Nothing Then
provider.Name = txtError.Text
provider.Type = "System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider"
section.Providers.Add(provider)
configuration.Save()
End If

This code is not allowing a provider.siteMapFile property (provideer is the ProviderSettings object).
As well the maximum possible way I can add a new SiteMap provider in web.config is as follows

<siteMap>
<providers>
<add name="MyAppCustom" type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider" />
</providers>
</siteMap>

If anybody can suggest a way for me to add/edit the 'siteMapFile' attribute of the provider.

I have an asp.net 2.0 application which when it starts up need to read a number of parameters in order to enable the accessible functionalities for the user. It also needs to read database connection parameters among etc. I am currently using a singleton class to read all the parameters from an xml file. Is this the best way of doing this or should I add all the parameters in web.config? The app takes > 1minute to start How can I improve on the performance?

Roles Authentication Works Using Authorization Attribute But Not Via Authorization In Web.config?

Mar 29, 2011

I am using ASP.NET MVC 3 and am trying to do something that should be really straight forward...

My application uses Forms authentication and that is working perfectly for controllers/actions. For example if I decorate either a controller or an action with the attribute below only members of the administrators group can view them:

[Authorize(Roles="Administrators")]

However I have a folder under the default Scripts folder called Admin. I only want members of the Administrators group to be able to access scripts within this directory so I created a new web.config in the directory with the following inside:

[code]....

However no matter whether a user is a member of the Administrators group or not they receive a 302 Found message and are then redirected to the login page.

If I change the web.config to allow user="*" then it works. It also works if I add an allow users="Username" for a specific user I am testing with.

MVC :: How To Change Forms Authentication LoginUrl At Runtime Based On Target Url

I'm using the mvc authorize attribute on my controllers. Using forms authentication, I'd like to be able to redirect unauthenticated users to a different loginUrl based on the route or target url. I'm guessing that creating my own authorize atribute isn't the right thing to do because it shouldn't know about the authentication module you are using (Windows/Forms etc). What would be a good way to acheive this?

Invoke A Forms Auth Login Modal Dialog Instead Of Redirecting To A LoginUrl Signin Page?

Dec 21, 2010

I've just finished implementing a modal dialog login popup for my ASP.NET website. The experience is similar to what you get with [URL]. When you log in, you get a fancy popup modal dialog (provided by the JQuery Tools Overlay control). The dialog is an ASCX file in the Master Page, so it's available globally. It uses a PageMethod to validate the current user. If the validation succeeds, I call window.location.reload(); in the PageMethod's success callback.

This works great when logging in on a page that doesn't require authentication, but what about when non-auth users are trying to navigate to a page that requires auth?

Is it possible to modify my web.config file so that instead of redirecting to a SignIn.aspx page for non-authenticated users I simply invoke the modal dialog instead?

Let's say a non-authenticated user is on Default.aspx which doesn't require auth. He wants to navigate to "Add.aspx" which does require auth. What's the best way to handle this with a modal dialog popup?

If I have to use a dedicated page, I guess I'll just have a SignIn.aspx page that invokes the dialog when it loads and if authentication succeeds, it'll use JavaScript to redirect to the destination page.

But ideally, I'd like to do the login from the Default.page and then redirect to "Add.aspx" with script.
