Cannot Use Response.Write In <head> Section Of Aspx Page?
Feb 18, 2010
I'm trying to use the Response.Write() method to dynamically insert content in the < head > section of an aspx page. I need to inject a string value from a property on a code-behind object which is a link to my CSS file. However, it is not being processed properly at run time. The object is public on the class and is hydrated in the Page_Load() event. Down in the body of the page I can successfully inject other properties from the Corpoartion object with no problem at all.Why does this not work in the < head > section?This is the part that does not expand correctly:
<link href="<%= Corporation.PageStyleSheet %>" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
Here is the entire < head > section:
<head runat="server">
<title></title>
<link href="<%= Corporation.PageStyleSheet %>" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
[code]...

I have seen on various websites how developers version their css/javascripts files by specifying querystrings similar to:
<head>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css?v=1">
<script src="js/helper.js?v=1">
</head>
How is that done? Is it a good practice? I've been searching around but apparently, I'm not looking for the right terms. If it matters, I'm using ASP.NET.Edit:: I just noticed (via Firebug) that if I "version" my files (?v=1) they will always be loading and will always override the cache. Is there a way around that?

In the past I have always worked from the code behind page in ASP.NET and emitting all of my markup from that area.I am now learning MVC and am working in the .ASPX page directly.
<%= Html.Label("Test") %>
<%: Html.Label("Test")%>
<% Html.Label("Test"); %>

I write inline expression and binding expression in the server head section:
[Code]....
[Code]....
But both kinds of expression aren't parsed or executed except the ResovleUrl menthod. The html renders like this:
<head><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<%= Request.ApplicationPath %>themes/style1.css" /><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<%# Request.ApplicationPath %>themes/style2.css" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/themes/style3.css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="/js/jwork.js"></script>
</head>
As I know, the inline expression in the attributes of server control can't be parsed but the binding expression should if we invoke the DataBind method. But the above case breaks the rule.

I'm doing something for paypal.
So i have my values for paypal PDT like this:
[Code]....
and then i will send the form to paypal and get the values (i also need some javascript to do that but it's irelevant now).
[Code]....
So it works ok but it show me all the paypal values on the page.Logical since i do a response.write.
Now my question is if there is a way that i will not get to see the values on the page.
I've tried request.clear ,request.flush but i didn't come up with anything.

For reasons that are probably not worth mentioning in this post, I have decided to stop using ASP.NET controls and simply use regular HTML controls for my .aspx pages. As such, to dynamically generate HTML, I use c# inline to the .aspx to do what I need to do.
For example: this .aspx snippet shows how I am dynamically creating a <select> element where the <option> elements are driven by looping through a generic list of objects.
<select name="s">
<option value="-9999">Select an entity...</option>
<% foreach (MyEntity e in this.MyEntities)
{%>
<option <% if (MyEntityInScope.ID == e.ID)
{ %>selected<%} %> value="<%= e.ID %>">
<%= e.Name%></option>
<%} %>
</select>
Functionality-wise, I prefer this method of creating HTML (I feel more in control of how the HTML is generated vs ASP controls). However, syntactically (and visually), I think it's cumbersome (and ugly).
Is there a "better" way (another syntax) to dynamically generate HTML w/out resorting to using ASP.NET controls?

what i have is the follwoing Page1.aspx.cs has the following redirection in it. Response.redirect(Errors.aspx) once i go to the errors.aspx page i have a back button but at the moment it does a history.back(-1) . That is not totally corect, what i want to do is when i click on the back button go to the page that originated the call ie Page1.aspx so it goes through the Page_Load in order to refresh statues on the page. What is the best way of achieving this?

I am working in coordination with the pHp developer, he is sending me some username, key at my aspx page and on that basis i am checking the authenticity from the DB, if authentic user then i'll do response.write("YES"), if not then i'll do response.write("NO"). The PHP developer saying that he will read my response.write and on that basis he will allow the user to get logged in to his PHP site. i want to know how will he read My response.write from ASPX page. He was saying he will read it, and will put it in session, i am very confused how will he read my response.write.

I have a custom implementation of Application_PreRequestHandlerExecute which is applying a deflate/gzip filter to the response. However, on IIS7, this is failing on my "script generator" pages. These aspx pages take in Query String values and return a custom bit of script, changing the response type to text/javascript. I think it is failing because of the way iis7 uses mime types, but I'm unsure how to fix it short of turning all compressio off.

I have an webforms app that loses it's session variables on response.redirect. I've read Bertrand Le Roy's blog about this and still can't get it to work. The page works in production. However, when I try in the VS2k8 IDE, the session variables are there right before response.redirect and on the first line of the next page, the variables are nothing. I've confirmed the session id is the same so I'm not skipping sessions. The target page is relative so the web server doesn't think we're changing sites (as confirmed by the sessionid).
Response.Redirect("menu.aspx", False)

I need to create a membership section in my ASPX website and I was wondering how do I start. It should be a simple member log in section, where they could register, see their profile, and upload documents once they register. Do I need to create a database for that or visual studio 2010 already has some templates included?

Let me explain better than what the question state. I dynamically generate a KML file from an aspx page and use routing to change the url so I can access myapp.com/mykml.kml and the download starts. I use Response.write() in the aspx page to send the data and it work flawlessly. But there is a zipped version for KML files which is KMZ and I am wondering if I can still use my aspx page to serve a KMZ instead of a KML. Since I do not use a file I cannot "zip" it. Is there a way to zip the stream and output it in the Response.Write()?
