Configuration :: 4.0 App Pool...Integrated Or Classic?
Aug 30, 2010
What should 4.0 app pool be running under? Integrated or Classic?
My button click events don't seem to fire under Integrated when I'm on the root, but if I change to Classic they do fire
So SHOULD it be classic for 4?

we are running a complex 64-bit ASP.NET 2.0 application on W2008 R2 Standard and stress tests done with VS2008 Team System have indicated that integrated pipeline mode is 30% slower than classic mode.
We have compared the application traces extensively and it appears that integrated mode is uniformly slower than classic. That is, there is no single point that causes delays in integrated mode.
This is quite the opposite to everything Microsoft says about the integrated pipeline, so it might be that there is something quite wrong with the configuration of the integrated mode or the server. But we have not found any settings that would have any effect on this. Some complaints that Sharepoint and reporting services are slower in integrated mode can be found, but our application does not use them so this is quite likely unrelated.

I'm working on a website with legacy Classic ASP pages (being converted to ASP.NET on an as needed basis) and new ASP.NET pages. Use of IIS 7 Integrated Pipeline has been very helpful with our configuration. For example, we were able to get forms authentication working auto-magically with the classic ASP pages simply by configuring the appropriate sections of the web.config file (i.e. no changes were required to the Classic ASP pages, for more info see this).
A colleague of mine believes that custom error pages, as specified in the web.config <customErrors> section, should also be auto-magically applied to the classic ASP pages, but for our website it only works for the ASP.NET pages. Nor have I been able to find any information describing the capability of applying custom error pages to Classic ASP with the IIS 7 integrated pipeline. Is it possible to apply custom error pages to Classic ASP pages per a web.config for an website running under IIS7 with integrated pipeline? If so, how?

My website security is configured with "Windows Integrated Security" only (anonymous is disabled).
I also want to set a specific account to run the w3wp.exe process using the
Application Pool Identity to a domain account.
Running directly from the server works without any problem but from remote computers I always get the authenticaion window then the 401.1 error (after 3 attempts).
It seems that its the combination of "Windows Integrated Security" along with the "Application Pool Identity" that causes the problem. When I disable one of the two it works properly.
My server is Windows Server 2003 R2, running IIS 6.0.

I am trying to get a asp.net 4.0 beta 2. website running that is working on my dev machine, but not when I published to my server. Where I get the HTTP 500.22 error when using the 4.0 as application pool and "Integrated" in "Managed Pipeline Mode".

I've got Integrated Security up and running.Am I correct that when users initially access the site that they have to enter their user name & password? I was thinking that Integrated Security would allow the user to go directly to the site (it is an on intranet) without having to enter the un/password. My thought was that Integrated Security would eliminate the needs for the user to sign in once they've signed into Windows when they start up their machines.

I am working on Windows 2008 Server (64-bit). I want to execute my web service as a pure (native) 64 bit service. All the assemblies referred by the web service are currently built as 'AnyCPU'.
When I publish the web service to IIS, and configure it to run under a 64-bit application pool (by setting 'Enable 32-Bit applications' = false), attempt to access the web service gives the error 'Application is not a valid Win32 application' because of a BadImageFormatException. This appears to indicate that somewhere an attempt is being made to load a 32 bit assembly. But the error does not provide any information about which assembly was found with an incorrect format. I have checked all the assemblies in the bin folder using corflags and they are bit agnostic.
I tried using the fusion log and identified a bind failure with VJSharpCodeProvider (though my service is coded only in C#). The runtime is not able to find the VJSharpCodeProvider because it is present in the GAC as an x86 assembly.
Is VJSharpCodeProvider the cause of the problem? I guess this is not the case because of the type of exception (BadImageFormatException). If I am correct, then how do I identify the assembly that is causing this exception?
If I change the property 'Enable 32-Bit applications' to true for the application pool, the service works fine, but I need native 64-bit execution.

We recently installed a patch to one of our test servers (yes it was a very old patch for a very old version of .net). After installing, it seems the ASPNET account no longer has the same privileges that it once did. I get the following error in the application logs.
"aspnet_wp.exe could not be launched because the username and/or password supplied in the processModel section of the config file are invalid."
I have tried changing the user in the processmodel config file to one that I created, but I don't think I'm setting the proper permissions on all the files and locations that are necessary. All of the other app pools that we have run fine (we have 1.1 and 2.0 on this server as well). Running the 1.0 app pool as "local system" allows the process to start correctly, but I'm afraid of the security ramifications of allowing that process so much access.

"My application (ASP.NET) writes certain files in folders on my servers. In IIS 6.0 I used to give write access to IUSR account so that IIS can write to the folder. Now what I see is my application pool runs under App Pool Identity account. That is good but users are able to create files in the folders without App Pool Identity user being given specific permission to do so.

Our website has all of the publicly accessible pages at the root and private pages (login required) in a folder below the root (call it "private").Private pages are accessed as
www.oursite.com/private/somepage.aspx.I want to run the pages in the private folder in a separate application pool without changing the URL for private users.I tried making the private folder a virtual directory but then the pages in the private folder did not render(I think because it did not find a web.config in the private folder).Is the answer to simply put a copy of the web.config that resides at the root in the private folder or is that problematic?

If I create a new thread on an ASP.NET page the IsThreadPoolThread property is true.
First question is, is it from ASP.NET pool or CLR pool ?
Second question is, if it is from ASP.NET pool then how to create a thread from CLR and don't use ASP.NET pool ?

I am trying to export crystal report to pdf inĀ asp.net, though the code is working well on localhost but on server I get error
HTTP Error 500.23 - Internal Server ErrorAn ASP.Net setting detected that does not apply in Integrated managed pipeline mode.
The crystal report is showing abnormal behaviors.I am using a CrystalReportViewer on which i have set the CrystalReportSource1 using the viewer Tasks.
The code on page load is :-
cn.Open();
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
string sql = "select * from Test";
OleDbDataAdapter da = new OleDbDataAdapter(sql, cn);
da.Fill(ds);
[Code].....
During the troubleshooting i encountered another unusual issue, where i tried a new crystal report with just simple report. That simple crystal report is not showing data & the toolbar images are not rendered. I googled on this but didn't found conclusive thing.

I have a web site running on IIS7 on a remote server. I would like to do the following: Create a new subfolder under the root virtual directory. Create a new app pool. Add this new app pool to the new subfolder Normally, I would do this manually in IIS by first creating the app pool, and then right-clicking the sub folder an choose "add application", but I need to do this programmatically in C#. I've managed to make the above points 1 and 2 work, but I can't find the way to adding the application to the sub folder. This is the code I have used so far for 1 and 2:
[Code]....
So, I need to add "MyAppPool" to the "NytSite" folder. Is this even the correct way to do this?

After some changes in web.config now IIS allows characters like ":" in URL but it makes some modifications. For example:
http://localhost/a///b => http://localhost/a/b (remove all slashes but one)
http://localhost/a => http://localhost/a/b (changes backslash with slash)
...
I want URL string from within a HttpHandler (I use Request.RawUrl) as it is without any change.

We have an ASP.NET web application which uses integrated windows authentication. It is accessed by users from two domains, A and B. A is the primary domain and B is an older domain which is going away. Web application is authenticating users using a group policy which only exists in domain A. Every user in domain B has an account in domain A. The application lives in domain A. There was no trust between the domains. So users from domain A would get silently authenticated and logged into the site. Users from domain B didn't get authenticated automatically and were prompted with the IE popup, to which they authenticated using their domain A credentials and everything worked. Now somebody has set up a trust between the domains and users from domain B get authenticated silently to IIS, and then their login fails (no group policy). So the question is:
can I either programmatically or in IIS configuration make it so that users from domain B still get prompted even though there is trust between the domains? Is there a way to tell the server where IIS is running to ignore the trust relationship maybe?

I have a web project running fine with IIS 6, when I try to run this project in IIS 7 Integrated mode I am having all kind of problems with global.asax, it appears to me if any of the following objects or properties is access in Application_Start, exception will be thrown: HttpContext.Current.RequestHttpContext.Current.Reponse HttpContext.Current.Server.UrlEncode The exception will be something like:Response is not available in this context.I have no ideas why this happens. I am not even sure if it only happens in Application_Start since project could not execute. Also there might be more objects causing other problems that I haven't encountered yet.
