Configuration :: Can't Run The Page From The Remote Site
May 7, 2010
I use visual studio 2008 to create a new site at local IIS. I dragged login,loginview,loginstatus controls from toolbox and dropped to the page as well as set up the security from administrative tool. It's working fine locally however when I published it to the remote hosting site, I can't even see the page, only error instead. It's using VS builtin DB and I can't see the connection string in web.config.

I have a web site running on IIS7 on a remote server. I would like to do the following: Create a new subfolder under the root virtual directory. Create a new app pool. Add this new app pool to the new subfolder Normally, I would do this manually in IIS by first creating the app pool, and then right-clicking the sub folder an choose "add application", but I need to do this programmatically in C#. I've managed to make the above points 1 and 2 work, but I can't find the way to adding the application to the sub folder. This is the code I have used so far for 1 and 2:
[Code]....
So, I need to add "MyAppPool" to the "NytSite" folder. Is this even the correct way to do this?

I have created a ASP.Net application which basically serves as a content management site. I need to create a Sitemap for our website which should be dynamic. I've tried Telerik's Sitemap control for ASP.net Ajax and found it useful. I want to know which is the best way to create a dynamic site map page in an ASP.net application before i proceed with the telerik control.

When a user opens the my web app then immediately opens clicks on a button to open another, related page (page opens in a separate window (users choice) via a button), the new page opens fine. If a user open the my web app and waits a bit (usually abouta minute) before clickin on the button to open another page, they get the 'Page Not Found' error. When I run this app locally (local host), I have no problems.the server can handle, why does this happen only after the user waits to open the other page.

We have a web application that I've just enhanced (and gotten rid of the MsgBox in it , too!) It runs on our production web server. I have the solution loaded in VS2005 on my PC. It's been deployed before, but this is the first time I am deploying it and I want to make sure I know what I'm doing. So I will choose Publish from the Build menu, and I think I want to say Remote Site - is that what will plop all my new stuff over the old? And is the value that I supply for Remote Site the URL, or would I use the IP

I have a site (URL...) which loads and runs fine locally on the server itself, but when I try to access this externally from outside of the server (and firewall) will not load. In Safari for example, I get the message "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding".I have other sites on this server that do load and operate fine so I don't belive this is a Firewall issue. One thing I did notice however is that when the error message appears, it seems like the site is trying to change the protocol from http to https.
I'm trying to debug this to find out what could be happening. I've tried looking into the IIS logs as well as the Event Viewer but I see nothing. I have even tried to turn on Failed Request Tracking but no errors are logged.

Does anyone have links to good tutorial on how to programatically (using vb) connect to a remote site to download and save xml files to local server? Thank you very much. The remote site is using REST and queues but I do not think that should matter or?

Local machine visual studio day and month are normal in format dd/mm/yyyy. But after deployed to remote web site, saved Excel using C#, less than day 12, become mm/dd/yyyy.
Actually the code is to get data into Excel from stored procedure which do pivot table The way i save date to cell is oSheet.Cells[currentline, i + 1] = String.Format("{0:dd-MM-yyyy}", Convert.ToDateTime(reader[i].ToString()));
while (reader.Read())
{
for (int i = 0; i < reader.FieldCount; i++)
{
if (reader[i] != System.DBNull.Value)
{
if (i == 0)
{
oSheet.Cells[currentline, i + 1] = String.Format("{0:dd-MM-yyyy}", Convert.ToDateTime(reader[i].ToString()));
}
else
oSheet.Cells[currentline, i + 1] = reader[i].ToString();
}
}
currentline = currentline + 1;
}
reader.Close();

Yesterday I added a custom MembershipProvider to an ASP.NET web application, but when I deployed the application to its remote host server, it failed. I know I had the login info correct, and I also know that for nearly any exception in the login process, the Login control displays the standard error message, "Your login failed", so I assume something is wrong in the code/config.
What can I do to diagnose what is wrong on the server?
BTW: This weekend I only have FTP access to the server, so no event log, and CustomErrors is already set to Off.
THE END: I was an idiot, and using the wrong query window to check if the my login actually existed on the server.

I have a website that was originally written in webforms to which I have added MVC functionality. When debugging locally it works fine, however, once published and uploaded to my host the routes do not work and return a 404. I am pretty sure that I have uploaded all the correct files. Would just appear that routing is not working.
(the site will still serve normal aspx pages fine)
I think the problem may be related to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1772975/mixing-asp-net-mvc-into-asp-net-webforms
But I cant see from that thread what the solution was. It looks like it might be something to do with the app_pool mode - but I am running in integrated mode, which is right AFAIK
UPDATE 2
So I think I have routing working. I basically created a new MVC app and went through theweb config file line by line and made sure I have everything I needed. Funnily, none of the tutorials online mention the correct additions you need to make. I have have another issue mind you... When i load my mvc page I am greeted with the message: The SessionStateTempDataProvider requires SessionState to be enabled.
I've added a line to web.config to enable sessions (wasn't aware they were off) and it still doesnt work.
UPDATE I created a new asp.net MVC project and ended up going through web.config line by line and ensuring that everything that related to MVC was included in my hybrid app. Suffice to say that none of the guides mention all the settings that are required (i was using the book professional asp.net mvc 1.0). I then included the global.asax file which is not published and set up a route so that a request for / was not being caught by MVC. I also had to enable sessions in web.config.

I am neither a server administrator nor very knowledgable about how to configure IIS, so I have the following problem:
My client hosts their public website from their own internal server running Server 2003 with IIS 6. The current website is a .NET 1.1 application configured as a website in IIS. Within this site a separate virtual directory configured as an application runs a separate .NET 1.1 app that serves as their online webstore.
I've been tasked with upgrading the website (not the webstore) to .NET 4 and getting it installed and working on their server. My initial plan was to simply change the existing websites home directory to the new home directory from the IIS admin console and be done, but then I read that this would break the application directory that hosts their online store because .NET 1.1 applications cannot be nested within .NET 4 applications. Can anyone confirm this?

I used to deploy developed web parts to a remote sharepoint site by Build->Deploy menu inside Visual Studio 2008 months ago ( I am not a regular web part developer). My network engineer also asked me how to deploy web parts without stsadm commands. anyway now I can't. Visual Studio keeps complaining that the specified site doesn't have sharepoint site contained. "No SharePoint Site exists at the specified URL."
After googling, it is said web parts can't be deployed to remote sharepoint sites from visual studio. Only can to local site. However I did it before. Visual Studio 2008 service pack or hot fix made this feature (remote deploy) removed? Or is there any workaround?

Looking for advice on how to troubleshoot an application (not something I wrote) that is on the old 2.0 Framework. It acts "crazy" sometimes when selecting an item from a drop down list. Sometimes the page will reload like it should on the post back with the new data, while othertimes, it just throws a Page Not Found error. What's the best way to troubleshoot and eliminate the various variables of IIS6, 2.0 Framework, SQL Server, the VirtualMachine, etc.

My application works locally, but when I upload it to my remote server some of the components do not work. If I use the microsoft chart control it blows the hole page up and it works locally. Does anyone know how to test stuff locally that would be exactly like what is on the remote server? I think it has to do with my hosting service. How could you test if this was true? Just upload to another remote server?

I am having serious issue running a MVC web site from IIS 6 especially with Windows authentication mode. I know its very simple but missing some ting between. Succeeded configuring MVC on IIS 6. Now Trying to enable Windows Authentication mode on MVC Web Site, Steps included in my configuration
- enabled windows authentication mode in web.config
- Enabled Integrated Windows Authentication on IIS web site under Directory Security.
- Given permissions to a Domain group (eg: asiaDomainGrp) [Read, Write] Do i need to add ASP.NET Machine accountIUSR_<machines name> under this?
During the intial loading, I am trying to query Active Directory to get authenticated user's full name to display on default page, this is not success full due to some issue, later I changed to "HttpContext.User.Identity.Name". Now I could able to access Default page from the web server, but real heck is here. For some reason IIS is using NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON.

I want to start and stop IIS on remote server using asp.net website.
When i try to stop IIS on remote PC, it raises error. I am using the following syntax "PsExec \Server2 -u Administrator -p somePassword IISReset /STOP". This works fine when called within VS IDE or from another C# code. However does not work when called from within asp.net app. I am using "Administrator" as user which has Admin access to both of machines.

I am uploading video files, which are somewhat large (5mb - 50mb) via asyncfileupload. I am able to successfully uploaded files of all sizes up to 1.5gb, that I've tested, on my test server and also locally on the production server. It works great, locally.
However, when I process the form that is hosted on my VPS server from my home, it tanks out and I usually receive the error: Access is denied. However, it works occasionally for small files. <1.5mb
I have edited and re-edited all of the associated config files, etc...So it shouldn't be a file size issue-especially since large files are successful locally.
I've also adjusted the UploadReadAheadSize attribute as described in another forum.
I set all of the folder permission so that everyone can read write as well as IUser, IIS_WPG, IIS_Iusr, Network Service am I missing a permission field?
Does anyone know of other settings that I would have to implement in order to get this working for my users.
are there any c# tricks for slower connections?
I am working with VS2010 in a win2k8/iis7 .net4.0 environment.
