I am actually experiencing problems with some users on my website: www.newturf.com
Some say that they are not able to navigate because the site is too slow.
Moreover others say that they loose their session frequently while still surfing the site.
My application is hosted on IIS6.0 web server. And we observed that the initial page load time is high (30-40 sec) and further page loads take only 5sec.To bring down the page load time, I have deployed the precompiled web solution on IIS.But unfortunately the initial page load time did not came down to larger extent.
View 3 RepliesI am writing a program to measure the latency(response round trip time) for a web service. I need to have this at client side.
My initial plan is to store the time at which request is sent and then calculate the difference in time when we recieve a response from the web service. Is this the correct way to measure latency of web service. This has some overhead because of storing time and all. How can this be done?
Another option is to attach a timestamp with the SOAP request. But the server should return the timestamp. This will not be possible in case of third party web services.
i've tried searching the net for this but really can't find much at all. i have created a website in visual web 2005 with sql express 2005. i have uploaded the website and altered the connection string and can connect to the database on the server, but now users can't log in The login control tells me when I've entered the wrong details, so it's doing something right, but if I enter the right credentials it eventually just throws back an error (Server Error in '/' Application.). I'm guessing it's something to do with the membership section in the web.config but can't quite work out where. I've altered the connectionstringname to the one that points to the database on the server and the application name in the table on the db is "/" so now I'm at a loss.

View 4 RepliesI have an asp.net web app that uses forms-based authentication, a SqlMembershipProvider (using an encrypted password format), and a SqlRoleProvider. I need to know if it's possible to administer the users (create new users, assign them to roles, etc.) from a windows application - the powers that be don't want any administrative functionality in the web app itself.

So, obviously, I have a Sql Server database that contains the users and roles for the web app. I'd like to create a separate windows app that references the web app assembly, and use the configured MembershipProvider, RoleProvider, and machineKey to create users, assign users to roles, etc. If that's not possible, I can duplicate the configuration settings from web.config within the windows app. But I don't know how to do this either.
I am not sure what the event is called but I'm trying to get it so if your not logged in you can't manually type the page name in the bar at the top. I need to find a way so it will always redirect you to the login page if you haven't signed in.
Also the same goes for sessions, at the moment when my session time runs out my website fails as there is alot linked to sessions from my database, how do I get it so when a session expires upon trying to navigate inside the website you are passed back to the login page?
I am trying to work out how to calculate the latency of requests through a web-app (Javascript) to a .net webservice.
Currently I am essentially trying to sync both client and server time, which when hitting the webservice I can look at the offset (which would accurately show the 'up' latency.
The problem is - when you sync the time's, you have to factor in latency for that also. So currently I am timeing the sync request (round trip) and dividing by 2, in an attempt to get the 'up' latency...and then modify the sync accordingly.
This works on the assumption that latency is symmetrical, which it isn't. Does anyone know a procedure that would be able to determine specifically the up/down latency of a JS http request to a .net service? If it needs to involve multiple handshakes thats fine, what ever is as accurate as possible.
I need to capture the amount of time that ASP.net takes to execute each page request in my application, but I need to exclude any network latency. I am currently capturing render times by using the StopWatch class and starting the stopwatch during the OnInit method of the page lifecycle and stopping it after the Unload method completes. It seems that the Unload method includes the time it takes send the request to the client, thus including any internet/network latency. What is the last possible point I could stop the stopwatch in the Page Life Cycle that would not include the time it takes to send the request to the client. Would it be directly before the Unload event?
Related question: Does ASP.net finish building the response before it starts sending to the client? Or does it start sending asynchronously, while the response is being formed?
I am using ASP.Net 2.0 with IIS 5 currently.

I tried capturing the execution time at the end of the OnRender method, at the start of the OnUnload method and at the end of the OnUnload method. In all three cases the difference in times was at most 1 millisecond. Even when testing this from a client in Europe to a server in the USA, the times were identical.
My host moved my website to a new server. The DNS configuration is correct but the website is still down and I'm getting this message
"unable to open website at www.aboutmecfs.org. Internal Server error"
I want to make a 2nd website and am using a copy of the site files from my 1st site built for me, I added them via FTP to the hosting company. I realise when I edit the new site via the CMS it is editing both sites plus when I try to change anything to the CSS file I get the following error -

So my questions are what do I need to change to be able to deploy a new site with the files I have to make a new site?I also don't understand where the password is coming from, I can see the User ID comes from the database. in the Asp.net connection strings are the following:

I need to have a copy of all my pages, bin fold, data folder, etc stored in a folder in the root of project called installation.
Once I have copied the contents of my web site into the installation folder how can I tell the complie/run process to ignore that folder ?
What is the differenc between Copy Web Site and Publish Web Site? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each method?
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to run a website (site2) that I've placed inside a folder (dir-site2) of another website (site1). The default file of site2 displays fine in every browser on my local computer, as in when I type http://localhost:45912/www.site1.com/dir-site2/default.aspx. But when I upload everything to my host's server and type this
http://www.site1.com/dir-site2/default.aspx I get a server "can't access" error message. I can't display any file that is inside the subdirectory, dir-site2.
I have an application wich uses AD for authenticate users, the web.config goes like this:

It's works fine in development environment, the problem is when I've published this app into IIS, I can't get the users to login. I've configured the directory security to Anonimous Access since the user will enter the credentials using forms auth.
I got a requirement from client that he wants to know distinct users information from sites and it sub sites those have access to site. There are separate groups for each subsite (contribute, approval and full access). From these all groups find distinct user information.
How can we do that using Object model?
When I run my website through debug mode in visual studio everything looks great and all the images on the page show up fine. But once I deploy my website to an IIS7 web server (doubt that other versions would make any difference, but you never know) then users can't see the images on the site until they log in.The website is an asp.net MVC site and I'm new to MVC, though I do have lots of experience with asp.net forms. It seems that only authenticated users are allowed to access the images folder, and there is an authorization section in my web.config saying that only admins can access the site, so how do I make it so that all users, authenticated or otherwise can view the images?

Im not sure what it is called, but I need help with this. I need some tips on how to get started on an ASP.net site that will have different users. When each user logs in, they will be able to enter their own personal information such as address, hours worked, their own timesheet etc. I want to have it so each user will be able to only see their own data, not any other data entered by other users. I hope I am describing it ok. Please let me know what this process is called, or any good ways to get started on this.

View 4 RepliesVWD 2010 Express. Windows 2003 Server. I decided to move my web site from the Inetpub folder on my C: drive to an Inetpub folder on my D: drive to free up space on C:. I moved three web sites. Two of the sites worked fine after the move (I went into IIS 6.0 and changed the home directory of all the sites). One site, which requires authentication using the Windows Active Directory (AD), did not work properly. I could access the site and login with any administrator login. But all other users, although they enter the correct credential, continue to be reprompted for their username and password. The site uses "basic authetication" to check users credentials against the AD. Can anyone think of a reason I would have this peculiar behaviour just because I move a web site's files from C:inetpub to D:Inetpub?

I have a website which have been running for about a year without any problems. Users have been able to login etc, but now I get reports about users not able to login while using Internet Explorer. Users using other internet browsers like FireFox, Chrome etc have no trouble logging in.
The website are using the standard Forms authentication.
Also lately another website has been setup in IIS7, but these sites are using application pool. I've stopped this webapplication in IIS, but that doesn't have any effect on my problem
I see that Windows Update have failed to install a lot of patches lately, not sure if that is related to this problem. But some of the windows patches are security patches.
