I need to add the ability to register users in my web site. I'm sure that 1000's of programmers already did this, so why should I build from scratch? Does someone knows where can I find a module like this as well as other modules?

I'm using Visual Web Developer 2010 to design my website. I'm not real familiar with it and do not know if it includes the tool I need to accomplish this task easily.
I want to qualify my users ability to use javascript when they enter my website so I can manage any depreciated functionality properly.
I found some code on the web which effectively appends the quesrystring, then runs a javascript redirect. On the second page the querystring is rechecked - if its go &js=1 then they're good, else they're not good. The result is put into session so I can carry it throughout the site.
The problem I have with this is that firstly I have to load the first page twice. However I then need to be able to get the session variable back again, which means this happens on the first page:
round 1 - page loads, checks if javascript has been tested or not. If not run redirect to itself.
round 2 - get querystring value and put into session.
However the page may then go on to load some javascript dependent controls, but session isnt picking up the javascript (probably due to the page life cycle)
I supose I could then go on to test the querystring as well, but it doesnt seem too elegant a solution.
I've got an external site that's built in SharePoint 2007. the user of the site need to have an option to view the full site when accessed from a mobile device. I am thinking of just creating a button control to do this. The question is, what would be the best solution to do this?

I am very much a beginner and was looking for examples/tutorials I could follow that would enable me to learn how to code the following scenario:A user has the option to select an option from a dropdown.If the option is not there then they can enter a new option and add it to the database and list in the dropdown.
I would like this to be done without the user leaving the page and what they have entered so far.I am using a simple Entity Framework 4.0 model which I have built a repository on top of so I have methods I can call to save the filled in user information.If the entry already exists in the database then I would like to offer the user the chance to either select that entry or to continue adding the entry they request because it can be a list of names and of course you can have more than one person with the same name.

When I write existing in database username and confirm registration forms I see error "Username already exists. enter a different user name." - this is correct but when I write existing in database email and confirm registration form - I create next user with the same email - is it correct ?
I'm at the point where I want to allow users to register at my site and then allow users to login, so I am trying to get a feel for how everyone is handling this use case.
View 1 RepliesI downloaded the complete web dev 2010, asp.net and sql from your site, installed everything went ok, created site, published again everything ok. Asked in forum about images got answer and everything workedok.When I first set the site up, I could login and register new users, great I thought, however I then tried to create a page with a data set on it to view those users, I created a connection string with the wizard, tested connection which worked.When I published the page it came up with a ton of errors and after that I couldn't login or register any users, anyone got any ideas.
View 12 RepliesI have an asp.net web app that uses forms-based authentication, a SqlMembershipProvider (using an encrypted password format), and a SqlRoleProvider. I need to know if it's possible to administer the users (create new users, assign them to roles, etc.) from a windows application - the powers that be don't want any administrative functionality in the web app itself.

So, obviously, I have a Sql Server database that contains the users and roles for the web app. I'd like to create a separate windows app that references the web app assembly, and use the configured MembershipProvider, RoleProvider, and machineKey to create users, assign users to roles, etc. If that's not possible, I can duplicate the configuration settings from web.config within the windows app. But I don't know how to do this either.
I would like to subclass an ASP.NET control, like UpdatePanel, and use the subclass in my web site. I know if I move the code to a separate assembly I would be able to reference the assembly from within Register phrase but I wonder if there is a way to keep all the code inside the website.

I got a requirement from client that he wants to know distinct users information from sites and it sub sites those have access to site. There are separate groups for each subsite (contribute, approval and full access). From these all groups find distinct user information.
How can we do that using Object model?
When I run my website through debug mode in visual studio everything looks great and all the images on the page show up fine. But once I deploy my website to an IIS7 web server (doubt that other versions would make any difference, but you never know) then users can't see the images on the site until they log in.The website is an asp.net MVC site and I'm new to MVC, though I do have lots of experience with asp.net forms. It seems that only authenticated users are allowed to access the images folder, and there is an authorization section in my web.config saying that only admins can access the site, so how do I make it so that all users, authenticated or otherwise can view the images?

Im not sure what it is called, but I need help with this. I need some tips on how to get started on an ASP.net site that will have different users. When each user logs in, they will be able to enter their own personal information such as address, hours worked, their own timesheet etc. I want to have it so each user will be able to only see their own data, not any other data entered by other users. I hope I am describing it ok. Please let me know what this process is called, or any good ways to get started on this.
View 3 RepliesVWD 2010 Express. Windows 2003 Server. I decided to move my web site from the Inetpub folder on my C: drive to an Inetpub folder on my D: drive to free up space on C:. I moved three web sites. Two of the sites worked fine after the move (I went into IIS 6.0 and changed the home directory of all the sites). One site, which requires authentication using the Windows Active Directory (AD), did not work properly. I could access the site and login with any administrator login. But all other users, although they enter the correct credential, continue to be reprompted for their username and password. The site uses "basic authetication" to check users credentials against the AD. Can anyone think of a reason I would have this peculiar behaviour just because I move a web site's files from C:inetpub to D:Inetpub?

I have a website which have been running for about a year without any problems. Users have been able to login etc, but now I get reports about users not able to login while using Internet Explorer. Users using other internet browsers like FireFox, Chrome etc have no trouble logging in.
The website are using the standard Forms authentication.
Also lately another website has been setup in IIS7, but these sites are using application pool. I've stopped this webapplication in IIS, but that doesn't have any effect on my problem
I see that Windows Update have failed to install a lot of patches lately, not sure if that is related to this problem. But some of the windows patches are security patches.
I have a web application using Forms authentication provided by AD. I would like to know if it's possible to use EWS to send mail as the currently logged in user without having to supply credentials, or; would I be required to set up an account with impersonating access which will send mail on behalf of the currently logged in user?

The idea is that the user logs into the website and is then authorised for all services. I do not want to have a login aspect to my Silverlight application to authenticate users.Therefore I dont want anyone to be able to call my service who is not authenticated.
Could I...Somehow determine this for each Operation Contract. I had a look inside the OperationContext object but couldnt find anthing that stood out as a way to determine who the user was.Somehow attribute the ServiceContract so that the method can only be used by authorised users?Put something in my web.config to stop unathorised users from being able to access the folder containing the services?
