I have created a web app using Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition and have come to the point where I need to publish the site onto my server (which is running window server 2008). I found that the publish function is not limited in the express edition, so published the app to a local file and FTP'd the contents across to my server. I then setup a website through the servers IIS manage and pointed it to the folder containing the FTP'd files.
My question is, how do I run the app? Do I need to point to a specific file?
I have tried to view a number of the files in browser directly from the IIS but keep getting the same standard connection error i.e. "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
I have never used IIS Manager before and I can't find a resource which gives me a step by step guide to setting up a new site which has been created by Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition, are there any config changes needed.
After months of work I thought I had finished with my web application using VS2008 with CSSFriendly menu. On publishing, the menu did not work and I got all sorts of errors. Deleting CSSFriendlyAdapters.browser in App_Browsers folder improved the layout but the menu was not rendered with css even though the html source shows thet are linked. On desperation, I changed the target Framework from 3.5 to 2.0 and then back to 3.5 with no avail.
I'm creating a website and I'm testing resgistering and Log-in.
I followed a simple tutorial to create a Log-in in Visual Studio C# template which generated a SQL Server database.Locally the Log-in and registration page works perfectly. The problem is that when I upload my site to the hosting site the navigation works but the Log-in and Registration forms send an error when clicked "Register" or "Log-in". I contacted the site and they upload my database the way it should be because I was doing it wrong. I can see all my files including the data base.
They commented me that I had to do a connection string to the data base so the login and registration forms can work. I don't understand how to do that, I know the connection string has to be declared in the Web Config File, the thing is that I don't know how to write that code and link it to my data base in the hosting site, in fact I have sample code but I don't know just what do I need to put in it.
Does anyone know of any requirements to get the Ajax Control Toolkit (Calendar Extension in particular) working in this OS? I have it working on my local macjine (VS 2010 Development Server) but it doesn't work when published to my Virtual Server running Windows Server 2008 R2. No errors are reported, just nothing happens when I give focus to the Calendar textbox (no Calendar appears).Anyone know of any configutrations that need to be made in Windows Server 2008 R2?Is there a 32-bit/64-bit issue with the Toolkit?
I'm a total noob to anything ASP. I'm a web designer for my county's sheriff dept. and I don't create dynamic pages because out content doesn't require it. In fact, I'm still quite new to web design. The programmer who created the apps has zero experience with IIS7. These apps are designed to run on our organization's intranet server. I'm not having any luck with getting these sites to run properly. I have the sites created with the proper directories. When I click in the right-hand column of IIS Manager to browse to the sites, they launches but don't function as they should. They load up like static pages. I installed .Net 1.1 hoping that would make a difference but it had no effect.
publishing my website,i published my site before just to test how will it look like.but then when i intended to make some changes and publish them, it doesnt update the file that i've copied.even if i deleted the file from the hosting provider then re publish it, it still doesnt work.
When I publish my new web application onto the localhost, my error handling class did not get published with it. Therefore when I go to run the code, the site crashes out because it cannot find the class in the 'App_Data' directory.
Two of the pages (aspx) refer to the class using the following code.
I hv a query regarding publishing the website. I use aspnet2.0 and for uploading we use filezilla.
Whenever I make any changes to my website (either in aspx or aspx.cs page), I need to upload the entire website (along with my bin folder, after publishing)again otherwise my site just doesnt work. Its very time consuming.
If I'm using SQL Express 2008, can I use the Pub Wiz? When I try to download it, it takes me to download -Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Objects Collection. Do I need this if I use 08 Express? Do I need to download this 05 thing with SQL 08?
I am trying to move my web application from my computer to a server by publishing as a web site. But, after publishing, the user controls defined in the designer files are no longer recognized by the code behind.
Does anyone know how i can automate the process of publishing a webapplication.Normally in Visual studio i go to Build | publish and fill in the data. However i want to do this using c# , so that the process can be completely automated.I tried it using the Microsoft.Build.Engine. But i did not succeed
I am having a page which is working fine on my local machine.I am able to publish the project but when i deploy the page i am getting error.I am not understanding what is the problem. Why i am getting this error.
Environment: IIS 5.1 , OS Windows XP, SP3 , I.E 6.0, SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008I am quite new to development. I developed a small web application on VB.NEUser will login with UserID and Password, select the only Excel file and click 'submit' button. On Submit button, selected Excel file will be transfered from one location to another on network and insert the Excel column data in SQL server 2008.
I am using Integrated Windows authentication and Role based authorization. The web.config file has two Active Directory groups.Sample code of web.config file for Role based authorization (Actually I got this sample code from a moderator of this site Gary works well).
So user's who doesn't belog to "Group1" AD group, should get Unauthorized error. It works exactly like that. But, before getting unauthorized error, it shows a pop up screen (as shown in the attached picture) prompting to put userid and password. If a user in AD group "Group1" accesses "Blood group. aspx" page, popup message doesn't come which is correct. Following is the code in web.config file to handle errors:
Code: The <customErrors> section enables configuration of what to do if/when an unhandled error occurs during the execution of a request. Specifically, it enables developers to configure html error pages to be displayed in place of a error stack trace. -->
Question 1: why does the popup box prompting user id and password comes up? Question 2: I have put in web.config file in customErrors tag to direct to Errors.apsx page when I get 401.2, it should be redirected to Errors.aspx page. But it is not getting re-directed.
We have a shared drive where web applications are published to. When I attempt to publish I get the following error:
------ Publish started: Project: XXX.Web, Configuration: Release Any CPU ------ Connecting to T:WebSitesXXX...
Unable to create the Web site 'T:WebSitesXXX'. The path 'T:WebSitesXXX' does not exist or you do not have access. The system cannot find the path specified.
Details
OS: Windows 7 IDE: Visual Studio 2008 (running as administrator) Path exists? Yup.
I assume it's some permissions issue, but I have no idea where to start.
I tried to publish a website from Visual Studio 2008 right clicking, Publish. And I entered an invalid account and clicked "remember this ..." So now I can't finish the publishing and I don't know how to reset that credential? How can I change that account?
Login not working after publishing asp.net website
I am used default login control, form based authentication and default sqlmembership provider.but in local my site working fine, when i publish it locally in iis means, the login is not working , i don't know what is the reason?
As this files are unwanted, are not required for application to run properly, i put delete command on post build event to remove them :
<code> del "$(TargetDir)Microsoft.SQLServer.Replication.dll" & del "$(TargetDir)Microsoft.SQLServer.BatchParser.dll" </code>
The problem is, as i understood the publish process does: 1. Build, 2.Publish, 3. Post build, so these files are alwasys published on server and causing problems on every publish to our QA server. Is there any way to avoid removing files manually, except for first publishing on the local fs, then use some sort of ftp deployment script that would first delete files, and then push them to server.
When I try to upload my website I have created to [URL] then test it I cannot see any home page or anything. Just a list of pages etc I have uploaded, Its like im looking into a FTP server. I publish using visual studio 2010, I have tried both Copy website over to my FTP server and Publish website under the build button.
