Configuration :: How To Insert Data In SQL Server 2008
Jun 1, 2010
Environment: IIS 5.1 , OS Windows XP, SP3 , I.E 6.0, SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008I am quite new to development. I developed a small web application on VB.NEUser will login with UserID and Password, select the only Excel file and click 'submit' button. On Submit button, selected Excel file will be transfered from one location to another on network and insert the Excel column data in SQL server 2008.
On my page I am mapping my Sql Server Table fields with Access table fields
Once this is done I want to bulk insert records from Access table to the Sql Table
Also this is not exaclty table to table insert .I should be able to do it on a Button Click where either create a string or Datatable and then run a bulk insert
I'm creating a website and I'm testing resgistering and Log-in.
I followed a simple tutorial to create a Log-in in Visual Studio C# template which generated a SQL Server database.Locally the Log-in and registration page works perfectly. The problem is that when I upload my site to the hosting site the navigation works but the Log-in and Registration forms send an error when clicked "Register" or "Log-in". I contacted the site and they upload my database the way it should be because I was doing it wrong. I can see all my files including the data base.
They commented me that I had to do a connection string to the data base so the login and registration forms can work. I don't understand how to do that, I know the connection string has to be declared in the Web Config File, the thing is that I don't know how to write that code and link it to my data base in the hosting site, in fact I have sample code but I don't know just what do I need to put in it.
Does anyone know of any requirements to get the Ajax Control Toolkit (Calendar Extension in particular) working in this OS? I have it working on my local macjine (VS 2010 Development Server) but it doesn't work when published to my Virtual Server running Windows Server 2008 R2. No errors are reported, just nothing happens when I give focus to the Calendar textbox (no Calendar appears).Anyone know of any configutrations that need to be made in Windows Server 2008 R2?Is there a 32-bit/64-bit issue with the Toolkit?
I'm a total noob to anything ASP. I'm a web designer for my county's sheriff dept. and I don't create dynamic pages because out content doesn't require it. In fact, I'm still quite new to web design. The programmer who created the apps has zero experience with IIS7. These apps are designed to run on our organization's intranet server. I'm not having any luck with getting these sites to run properly. I have the sites created with the proper directories. When I click in the right-hand column of IIS Manager to browse to the sites, they launches but don't function as they should. They load up like static pages. I installed .Net 1.1 hoping that would make a difference but it had no effect.
I am using ASP.Net 4.0/Visual Studio 2010. However, I think it would be the same if it was ASP.Net/VB.Net 3.5. I am inserting three form filed values into a database table. I have placed a LoginName Control on the page and the login name is properly displaying. I am using forms Authentication and it is set up properly in the web config file. I simply want to insert the logged in username value into the database table so I can track who created the records. I am happy to be able to insert the UnserName or the UserID value. I assume both of the values are derived out of the aspnet_Users table. Being able to insert either one would be fine but I believe UserID would be better because it will always be unique.
I am using Integrated Windows authentication and Role based authorization. The web.config file has two Active Directory groups.Sample code of web.config file for Role based authorization (Actually I got this sample code from a moderator of this site Gary works well).
So user's who doesn't belog to "Group1" AD group, should get Unauthorized error. It works exactly like that. But, before getting unauthorized error, it shows a pop up screen (as shown in the attached picture) prompting to put userid and password. If a user in AD group "Group1" accesses "Blood group. aspx" page, popup message doesn't come which is correct. Following is the code in web.config file to handle errors:
Code: The <customErrors> section enables configuration of what to do if/when an unhandled error occurs during the execution of a request. Specifically, it enables developers to configure html error pages to be displayed in place of a error stack trace. -->
Question 1: why does the popup box prompting user id and password comes up? Question 2: I have put in web.config file in customErrors tag to direct to Errors.apsx page when I get 401.2, it should be redirected to Errors.aspx page. But it is not getting re-directed.
I'm deploying a web site to a server I've set up for testing. The website works great in development (Running in VS 2010) as well as in production on multiple client sites. I'm simply trying to test the site in a new environment. I simply copied the complete site (pages, code, directories, everything...) to my server. In IIS7 I created a new web site pointing to the directory containing my site's files and directories. I can open my site and my initial login page loads.
Database connections are made, page and buttons all seem great. Then, I log in. In the first line of code that attempts to instantiate an instance of a class contained in my App_Code folder, an exception is thrown, 'Invalid object name'. I've messed with as many settings as I could in IIS7 but to no avail. I've searched the internet on something regarding this, but nothing seemed to apply. At this point I'm about ready to install Visual Studio on my server to get it to run (this was the route one of the other developers took).

I have a new server that I am attempting to deply my very first asp.net website on. I have installed SQL 2008 r2 and loaded my DB on it. I am able to access the server/DB through Visual Stuidio. At least I know i can call it from the webserver to my local PC.
For some reason I just cant get my we.config's connection strong right. It might even be the <provider> info that I have wrong. I am just too inexperienced to know for sure. My Web.Config is very short so I will post all of it here.
-- Code is posted at the end --
How do I modify my local project to use my webservers DB instead of the standard SQL Express DB? The only connection string
Machine.Config that points to the sqlexpress database. Again I lack the experience to know how to do this. I am using Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008 r2 on my local pc.
My web app, Web.Config file is larger than 250 kb. To resolve this problem, before on windows server 2008 iis 7.0 32bit, i have created a key with regedit in HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftInetStpConfigurationMaxWebConfigFileSizeInKB, and this work perfectly.
Now on windows server 2008 R2 64bit, this key is not more supported, it's my idea.....
What is the solution ? I can't split my web.config.....
How to bypass this security restriction by default ?
I have web app written in .net 4.0 using url routing. I want to import a DLL (built on VC) in asp.net, and I have a major problem in PRODUCTION Box (IIS 7 and Windows 2008 server). First: I want to say that this DLL works fine in my DEV Box with web application written in C#, and my development server (Win XP SP 3, .NET Framework 3.5 and IIS6). But when I upload my code (web application code + DLL) in PRODUCTION Box (IIS 7 and Windows 2008 server). Web application doesn't work with DLL any more. I am sure that Asp.net knows this DLL well, and if it did'nt recognize it would give me an error, but my problem is that my DLL does'nt works proprely when I run it in IIS 7 under Windows 2008 server. Do you know any solution ? Can it be something with the IIS 7 permissions?
I have developed a website using visual studio. Now i want to deploy the same on server having windows server 2008 o.s. and IIS 7. When i copy the website and paste it into wwwroot folder of iis its not working. What settings need to be done so that website can be accessed from iis.
I have a framework 2.0 AJAX app that was moved to Windows 7 2008 R2 server with II7. The application pool is set to 2.0 for the website, but its always looking for this assembly. Everything I've read says you do not install AJAX 1.0 Extensions on Server 2008? Since this IIS is not mine, I'm trying to be cautious. Should I install the extensions, or is there some server setting Im missing??

When I try to encrypt the "connectionStrings" section in the web.config file of my asp.net web application on Windows Server 2008, I'm getting the following error:

Note: This utility has limited capabilities on the Windows Vista operating system. It is recommended that you use the "Turn on or off Windows features" option of the "Programs" component of Control Panel to install or remove ASP.NET. I am running a web-site with simple .aspx files on a standalone workgroup Windows Server 2008 called 'Max'.I had assumed that the .aspx files were accessed by the 'Network Service' account. The application pool for the website is running with 'Network Service' as the process account.I was puzzled, since 'Network Service' had no permission on these files. So I added event level auditing to the files, and I was suprised to learn that the .aspx files were being accessed by an account called Max$ (ie the computer account).this correct ?Why is the Network Service account not being used ??

I have three web forms to insert, read and edit data. I want to display single records on each page. My pages consist of textboxes, listboxes, and images. I currently achieved reading, inserting and editing using a datareader and parameter queries. I'm wondering the best way, to design web forms. Can i use stored procedures. Using stored procedures; is more secure or not, is more stable or not,
I have a database with a 1 to many relationship in SQL Server 2008. I have created a formview in VS2008 to insert records into the child table. However I can't set the foreign key to automatically insert this value. If I manually type in a value the insert works but I need it to pick up the fk ID automatically from the master table. How can I do this?
The master table: tblTopic has ID int auto increment primary key and the child table has ID int auto increment primary key and TopicID int allow duplicates no nulls, foreign key. I have set updates to cascade in the relationship.
My insert statement is INSERT INTO tblTopic (TopicID, Comment, SubmittedBy) VALUES (@TopicID, @Comment,@SubmittedBy). The TopicID keeps throwing the error, this is the foreign key.
This is the first time I have tried to do this, so apologies if it's really obvious but I'm on a bit of learning curve.
