Configuration :: Security Exception:ran Newly Built Msi/exe But Never Got Application Back ?
Jul 12, 2010
I'm having hard time to figure out whats going on with my IIS.My application was running in IIS very well untill I used Visual studio Copy website to update the files in the wwwroot.All of a sudden I got this error.My application works fine from the file system.I tried deleting my application from IIS and uninstalled from control panel and ran the newly built msi/exe but I never got my application back what so ever.This is web.config for reference.I've also tried <trust level="Full"> element but this didn't help.I remember the whole problem started when I was trying to debug the functionality to upload and download files in ASP.Net.

We have had a web application built in vs2008. We have recently set up vs2010, and when we build the solution we are getting this error.
The CodeDom provider type "Microsoft.VJSharp.VJSharpCodeProvider, VJSharpCodeProvider, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" could not be located.
We have tried placing the following in web.config
<compiler language="vj#;vjs;vjsharp" extension=".jsl;.java" type="Microsoft.VJSharp.VJSharpCodeProvider, VJSharpCodeProvider, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a">
<providerOption name="CompilerVersion" value="v3.5"/>
<providerOption name="WarnAsError" value="false"/>
</compiler>

I want to import a DLL (built on VC) in asp.net, and I have a major problem in PRODUCTION Box (IIS 7 and Windows 2008 server). First: I want to say that this DLL works fine in my DEV Box with web application written in C#, and my development server (Win XP SP 3, .NET Framework 3.5 and IIS6). But when I upload my code (web application code + DLL) in PRODUCTION Box (IIS 7 and Windows 2008 server). Web application doesn't work with DLL any more. I am sure that Asp.net knows this DLL well, and if it did'nt recognize it would give me an error, but my problem is that my DLL does'nt works proprely when I run it in IIS 7 under Windows 2008 server. Do you know any solution ? Can it be something with the IIS 7 permissions?

I'm running into a weird issue that I can't find an answer for anywhere I've looked (and I've looked a ton).I built a web deployment project with Visual Studio 2008 Team System on my old Win XP machine. This has always worked flawlessly and installed everywhere. I can also copy this MSI to my new Windows 7 Ultimate machine and it again installs just fine.
HOWEVER, when I rebuild that exact same web deployment project on my new Win7 machine, also using VS2008, the MSI will build OK, but when I then run it to install my software I get a dialog box telling me "the installer was interrupted." Interestingly, when I built this MSI in my new environment one additional warning popped up during the build process, which was "Unable to copy the schema file '(null)'"After many searches and reading different web pages, I know this has to do with these two registry keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftVisualStudio9.0DeploymentSchema]
"DefaultMSISchemaFile"="c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\Deployment\Vspkgs\..\VsdSchema\Schema.msi"
"DefaultMSMSchemaFile"="c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\Deployment\Vspkgs\..\VsdSchema\Schema.msm"
Yet, everything checks out. All permissions are correctly configured, etc., etc.Then, when I enable the built-in administrator account and log in as that, and then rebuild this same web deployment MSI the "Unable to copy the schema file '(null)'" warning no longer appears. Then when I log back out, log back in as myself and then run this newly built MSI it installs fine, just like the original one that was built on XP.I also tried uninstalling VS2008 and re-installing it as the super user, but that also didn't change anything. And yes, I did also configure devenv.exe to run as administrator.
Has anybody seen this? Or is it a requirement that you can only compile deployment projects as the super user? That cannot be right.I've been thrashing for more than five days and for the life of me cannot figure this out. Of course, I can run as the super user when developing, but I thought the new security model in Win7 was designed exactly so you don't have to.

Is it possible to built a feature in a asp.net application which will let the user schedule things that would be run on the background?
For instance, say that there is a option in the application to send a email to every customer in the system on their birthaday. The user from the system could activate the option in the application, and for as long as the option is activated the system queries
every day if some customers birthday is on that day and then send a email to that customer.
I think it has to integrate with the taskscheduler, but i don;t know how to integrate that dynamicly in a application

WCF service is running with 'wsHttpBinding' Binding. The application which gonna consume WCF Service is non-wcf compliance or in other words, it is on the top of Framework 2.0 and I can't use ServiceModel in this app (since only 3.5 supports ServiceModel).
how to consume above WCF Service in application built in 2.0?

How do I set the ASP.net application name for the built in IIS for VS 2005? I am setting up a new dev box with an existing application. It has all the users and roles already created so I just need to specify the correct Application name and everything should work. It seems to run off the directory name of the project by default. But that isn't working completly for me. The Application name in the database is '/budgetsite' But when I put the files in c:developmentudgetsite' the web server uses 'budgetsite' as the Application Name. I am trying to avoid installing IIS on this box.

I am working on an application built using ASP.NET 1.1 but that invokes services built in ASP.NET 2.0.
Attempts to debug my code by setting a breakpoint and attaching the w3wp.exe process fail because IIS is running under ASP.NET 2.0.
If I select ASP.NET 1.1 as the version in IIS then debugging works, but the calls to the 2.0 services (which are everywhere) causes the page to crash.
Does anyone have a solution/workaround to this problem?

I have an asp.net application with separate classes for business logic and database interaction and then of course the UI. I am building a form to add a widget to a widget list table in the database. My UI collects the information and submits it to the business class. I'm going to write the business class to first double check that the widget has a name (I know I should do this in UI with validation, and I will, but this is just in case validation is forgotten) and if it does, go ahead and send the information to the database class. The database class will then attempt to write the info to the correct table using a try catch finally block. Any errors caught here are logged and then rethrown so I can inform the user. So, knowing that my database class may rethrow an error, my business class code will also be written in a try catch finally block.
So at this point I have a number of possible outcomes that I want to inform the user via the UI:
1) Everything was fine and the widget was added.
2) Something happened with the database write and the user should try again later.
3) The user forgot to name the widget.
My question is: should I write my UI in a try catch block and then throw a custom Exception with an Exception.Message in the business layer if anything goes wrong, or just have my business logic return a string that is the message? I'll want to know if the process was successful or not, because I'll want to format the actual message differently, so I'd have to use if...elseif to determine if the message was bad or not.
It seems like throwing a custom Exception in the business layer may be a good way to tell the UI something bad happened. If the UI doesn't catch anything then of course the operation was successful. Then again throwing an exception for missing data seems a bit hefty.

I have simple 3 tier web application and have mostly CRUDE functionalities. Recently I required to add new console application to the existing solution in which I call data layer methods for retrieving data from DB but I get an exception "The type initializer for threw an exception."When I debugged I found that the exception is thrown at datalayer on first line of class where I get connectionstring from
web.config, the code is public static readonly string CONNECT_STRING =
ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DbConnectString"].ConnectionString;
Now if I hardcode the connection string value like public static readonly string CONNECT_STRING = "Data Source=XYZ;uid=sa;password=XXX;initial catalog=ABC;"
it works fine.I don't understand what is the issue here as web application works fine with this datalayer.
