Configuration :: Define HttpRuntime Element In The Config File?
Feb 21, 2011
The httpRuntime element configures ASP.NET HTTP run-time settings that determine how a request for an ASP.NET application is processed.
Is it a good idea to customize this element in the config file.
The user has indicated that the application seems to be kicking her out, even though she is sure that she is submitting a form faster than every 30 minutes.
My Config file has these vales set, am I missing anything?

I'm looking at an asp.net application, i notice that there are assemblies defined into two places. In web.config there is configuration/system.web/compilation/assemblies/add elements. In the project file there are references setup under the Project/ItemGroup/Reference elements.
I was wondering, what is the difference between assemblies/references added in either location?

See the page [URL].
Defining namespaces in web.config works fine with VB.NET, but C# is not recognizing the namespaces.

I'm trying to increase the execution timeout and file upload limit on my asp.net website but when i try to add
<httpRuntime
executionTimeout="110"
maxRequestLength="4096">
</httpRuntime>
i get the following errors:
Could not find schema information for the element 'httpruntime'.
Could not find schema information for the element 'executionTimeout'.
Could not find schema information for the element 'maxRequestLength'.
According to this msdn library link this is how I'm supposed to do it,so what am I missing here?

I need to read configuration elements from the web.config. Let this be my web.config.
<family>
<parents>
<child name="Hello"/>
<child name="World"/>
</parents>
<parents>
<child name="Hello1"/>
<child name="World2"/>
</parents>
</family>
So I have something like this, I need to read this into a collection.

I'm preparing to deploy a ASP.NET web application. The target server has already a previous version of my web application with parameters specified on the web.config file.
In the new version of this web application, the web.config file contains new sections I would like they appear into the target web.config file on the server.
However I can't find the way to merge the new web.config sections into the existing web.config file ?
Does I have to do it programmatically, or is there a tool to merge the both files during installation ? (I'm using Web Setup Project).

I am trying to break a large web.config file into smaller parts. This has been covered a few times on different stack overflow questions (like this or this) which recommend using the configSource or file attributes. The problem is this does not work for the system.webServer section used to configure IIS 7 in integrated mode. This is particularly bad for web.config files that have IIS Rewrite rules which tend to bloat the files.

We have a function which sends out a bunch of e-mails. The problem is that a HttpException is thrown on the server after a while.
I managed to find out the the solution is to increase the executionTimeout in web.config, but I only want this on one page, not the whole application.
Is there a way to set the executionTimeout configuration only on one page?

I'm working on an EmailSender, and I'm grabbing the email address from my Web.config file. I'd like to also grab a "display name" for that email, from the same section if possible, but I'm not seeing an obvious way to do this. In my Web.config file, I have included a default "from email address", like this:
<configuration>
<[URL]>
<mailSettings>
<smtp from="[URL]><!-- no displayName attribute :( -->
<network ... />
</smtp>
</mailSettings>
</[URL]>
</configuration>
In my EmailSender, I have something like this:
var smtpSection = ...;
var message = new MailMessage();
message.From = new MailAddress(_settings.From, senderDisplayName);
Is there a recommended way to store senderDisplayName in a web.config file? Is there some way to include it in the from attribute? For example:
<smtp from="Automatic Mailer [URL]">
Or does it need to be a custom element in appSettings? Or is there some other way?

I have built an ASP.NET (.NET v4) application in VS 2010. It is working just fine. But when I try to create deployment package (so I can deploy it in our test IIS 7.5 Server), it gives me error like this,
Error 1 Could not open Source file: Could not find file 'C:11-2 estobjDebugCSAutoParameterize ransformedWeb.config'. 0 0 test
Thing is in past, I had deployed the SAME application using the SAME method.

I'm using MySql in my asp.net project. But I don't want to type every "using MySql.Data.MySqlClient;" statement in every aspx.cs/aspx.vb file. How can I define this lines in web.config file?
I've defined some namespaces like below but this only works for aspx pages:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
<system.web>
<compilation debug="false" targetFramework="4.0"/>
<pages>
<namespaces>
<add namespace="System.Web.Configuration"/>
<add namespace="MySql.Data"/>
<add namespace="MySql.Data.MySqlClient"/>
</namespaces>
</pages>
</system.web>
</configuration>

I want to publish my website from the development machine to QA server. Do I need to create a new web.config file which has the new data connection strings and copy it on the QA server or is there a better way of doing this, so that every time I publish modified files, the web.config does not get overwritten.

I am designing a web application for Leave Application of our faculties. There is a form in my website which represent the existing paper-back leave application form. Users(faculties) have to fill-up this web form and after validation an email will be send to the email address of our principal/hod. I hope that email address(s) will be provided to our group members. Now I want to know that what will be the required configuration of the web.config file? I found this blog ScottGu's Blog. Here the given configuration is:
[Code]....
But I think this is not acceptable for my project as the smtp from="test@foo.com", userName, password are unknown to me. So what should I do. Am I able to understand my requirement to you?

retrieve appsettings from the app.config file stored in a DLL directory?
I have read many posts on this and it appears as though it's not possible. I've tried all configurationmanager options without success.
Of course, when my .net web app runs, it configurationmanager pulls the settings from the web.config which I understand. I would just like to have a configuration file dedicated to the dll. (like app.config).
