Configuration :: Disable SQL Server Redirecting To Its Own Error Page?
Feb 28, 2011
I use Custom errors in my web.config. It works for urls like www.x.com/x.aspx , but when I write something like :www.x.com/name (I have Application_BeginRequest dealing with it on global.asax) on the live server, IIS bypasses my application and shows its own error page. How can I disable IIS error handling and redirect where I want to?
I am new to .net. i amworking on the supproting project. At first i want to execute the project. It uses microsoft visual studio 2010 and sql server 2008, i attached the data base to sql server 2008,when am trying to execute the project , it opens the login page , it is taking the user name and password ,after entering the user name and password, when it redirects to index page it shows the xml parsing error. i am not getting what to do for this error. when i try to execute all other pages, it opens that pages . please help me to open the index page.
I am having problem redirecting error when error is http 500 or http 403 locally running this site there is no problem it gets redirected to my errorpage.aspx. But when deployed at server, it does not get .tried putting try and catch in page_load and in global.asax and I have set Application_Error to redirect to that page and also set <customErrors defaultRedirect to that page also
All the examples and websites i have looked at redirect a user to the error.aspx page when an error occurs. How do you just display a friendly error message on the page the user is viewing saying something like "Sorry unable to do whatever" I've tried using a try catch block on my class that executes a stored procedure and put another try catch on the controller, but this does not work and i still get the default error message (System.InvalidOperationException was unhandled by user code) My code is below:
[Code]....
So how can i just return ViewData["SqlError"] message in page.
I have inherited the an asp.net app. So i want to add the custom Error Handling. I know there are two methods i can do this.
1) Web Config 2)Global.asa
So i started with the web config just to see how it will look and i accessed the page that normally gives an Exception. so basically i have a page gives a
500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.
So now , if there is an Error i want it to go to that Error Page. In the web config i have the Following
This means that when this kind of Errors occur it should redirect to that page. All these pages are contents of the Master page including the Error page. But this Error Persist it does not show me the Error page. Even if i try to see if it goes to "Application_Error" in the Global.asa nothing goes there.
So i have also tried the second option. so i turned the web config part "off" and i trapped this in the global.asa like this
Code: Sub Application_Error(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Server.Transfer("~/Content/ErrorPages/SupportError.aspx") 'Response.Redirect("~/Content/ErrorPages/SupportError.aspx", False) End Sub
Can I configure ASP.NET custom errors so that it would redirect to other site when error has occurred. Even more, I would like to redirect to different web page every time. Here is my simplified actual case: User opens my pages with query? urlpage=[URL] and I would like to redirect to this page when error occurs. How should I act in this scenario?

How can I disable IIS error handling and redirect where I want to?
I have a registration page I enter the details of the customers and redirect to another page for capturing photo and I come back to the registration page. I want to retain all the values i entered when i land on the registration page.
I have .sql database that I created in Visual Web Developer. I have uploaded the .sql file to the host company and they have successfully imported it. When I try to test the database on the server I am getting an error page (listed below). I have inserted a connection string in the web.config file (see below) and isnerted the relevant fields.
I am using forms authentication and authorization through roleManager. I have two Roles - "Customers" and "Employees". The redirection to the default page for the "Customers" role is working fine, but I get an oledb error stating that one or more parameters are not being passed when I redirect a user from the "Employees" role. The following is the code in login.aspx that handles the authentication of the user:
If myReader.Read() Then ' We have a match If myReader(1) Then ' This is true if an Employee and false otherwise If Not Roles.IsUserInRole(logInUser.UserName, "Employees") Then Roles.AddUserToRole(logInUser.UserName, "Employees") End If ElseIf Not Roles.IsUserInRole(logInUser.UserName, "Customers") Then Roles.AddUserToRole(logInUser.UserName, "Customers") End If FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(logInUser.UserName, logInUser.RememberMeSet) Else Response.Write("Invalid credentials") End If............................................
, I've researched this quite a bit and I'm just not seeing the problem. The app runs beautifully when living on my pc - the app on my pc connects successfully to the SQL Server 2008 Express Database (which sits on a server - not my pc). However, as soon as I publish this application to the server that the SQL Server 2008 Express Database sits on, I get this error when I try to run the application:
ERROR [42S02][Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'user'
It's behaving as if it either doesn't know where the table is when the app tries to run on the same server as the database or maybe the app doesn't have permission to hit the database once the app is on the same server as the database. I have connections on my pc and the server defined for this database, I verified that I set up each connection the same. I've also tried connecting using [dbo].[user] and this doesn't remedy the situation either. my connection string is in my web.config and it looks like this:
When a server error occurs for whatever reasons (YSOD), the server will send a message via SMTP class. In my case, my company employs microsoft exchange and uses NTLM authentication for all domain users. I am authenticating users via NTLA windows integrated authentication. My question is, is it possible to utilize this authentication data, and pass it to the system.web SMTP username/password authentication scheme to send an email to me (the web developer) when the error occurs? I am pretty sure my company requires a username/pwd to send emails via SMPT on the ms exchange server.
I am REALLY stuck with this and need a solution in the next 24 hours .i I have uploaded my asp.net web application to the web and have the database and connection strings functioning and reading the data from the database. But when I try to write to the DB
I get the following error :
Server Error in '/' Application.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
Description:An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
The wierd thing about this is the connection strings work from the local machine when I run from Visual Studio and I can write to the DB there, I just cannot write to the DB from the URL.
I am pretty new to asp.net but I am sure it has to be something to do with the web.config.

I just got a new computer with Windows 7 and installed IIS, including support for ASP. I am running everything locally on my computer. A simple statement like <% response.write time() %> works fine, so ASP is working, However, when I try to run a page that accesses a database (at least, I am assuming that that is the root of the problem) then I get the unhelpful error message:An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator. If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error. I have no idea where to begin. the database is in the same location as it was on with my old computer, and I have adjusted permissions to the database so that everyone except Creator Owner has full permissions - for whatever reason I am not able to change Creator Owner permissions.
I am currently trying to setup our website on a windows 2008 R2 64bit machine without much success. When I try to run the website I get the error detailed below. This only happens when I run the site under .NET 4. It works when I run it under .NET 2.
I have also tried going to a test aspx page to see what happens and it also give me the same error so it is obviously something to do with .NET 4 or the way I have it set up. I am thinking it might be a permissions thing but I am not sure what permissions should be set where. Please note this is the full version of .NET 4. The error I keep getting is:
HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error
An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.Detailed Error Information
Most likely causes: The module could not be found.IIS received the request; however, an internal error occurred during the processing of the request. The root cause of this error depends on which module handles the request and what was happening in the worker process when this error occurred.
IIS was not able to access the web.config file for the Web site or application. This can occur if the NTFS permissions are set incorrectly.
IIS was not able to process configuration for the Web site or application. The authenticated user does not have permission to use this DLL.

I am trying to deploy a simple page that just has 3 textboxes and a button that calculates 2 numbers.I copied the site to my server and when I try to go to the site throught IE I get the error below. How do I reslove this runtime error?
Server Error in '/' Application.
Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
the same application is working fine in 32 bit machine of my colleague where as in my 64 bit machine I am getting the following error. I also tried by changing Target Platform of the web app, under Properties-->Build-->Platform Target: From X86 to X64, in fact I tried all 3.
HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

We have created a new cname for our subdomain website. The new website is working properly with cname. We do have .net application inside the webiste which is not working with cname.
